If you ask me, it is not better for any individual. You think you mastered floating around, but NO, life forces you to change from comfortable breaststroke to a powerful crawl. This is what I’ll be missing over the next few days, classic north eastern storm weather. The sea’s are rough at the moment and soon to be very rough, it’s a strain to be sitting here at my desk but it has to be done, it’s a good job I took hundreds last year when I could. Here is one I took back in August at Seaham, I haven’t posted many from this session as I’ve tended to concentrate on my Roker photo’s, which I believe are some of the best I’ve taken to date. I continuing my learning curve with Photoshop and luminosity masks, I’m also starting to see a better mono conversion in Photoshop as well. Lightroom tends to go blotchy when you try to pull out those darker greys with the colour slides, in Photoshop that process seems more subtle. With more time on my hands on late I might as well booster my processing skills as my camera skills are going nowhere. If you have time count the seagulls

Today I'm starting a winter wildlife photo set, all mammals. The species that can survive our northern prairie winters are relatively few, and not many of them are birds. Some of the mammals - prairie dogs, ground squirrels - go underground to sleep away the winter. Others, including badgers, become torpid in their dens to save energy. As I'm not going to try crawling into a badger's den, we'll just be looking at a few species that remain active throughout the winter.
What may surprise some who follow my "stream" is that most of the dozen images, including this, were obtained on foot, not from the rolling red Toyota blind. I lay flat on the snow to photograph this Nuttall's Cottontail, and it went about its grooming without seeming disturbed. That is the key. To learn how to spend time with animals while not appearing threatening in any way.
Even though I have hundreds or even thousands of shots of these critters, every encounter was a thrill for me - a moment when whatever I tried... worked. There's no better feeling.

First shot out of my new camera. The old one had a issue with holding in the SD card. But a quick call to B&H and a new upgrade was in the mail. Now I need to get it all set up so that I can start to learn how to use it. An amazing camera, but I will have a bit to learn.
