The path leads deep into Mount Cook National Park, New Zealand. It is a wonderful place to spend a few hours or more.

A beautiful hike leads in about 30 minutes from the parish church in the village centre of La Val to the chapel past some beautiful old farmsteads of the valley.

CN 2436 leads westbound train 406, as they head downhill into Rothesay, New Brunswick during one of the first snowstorms of the year.

December 17,2016.

This shot was taken on a popular look-out point on the path between Pucks Glen and Benmore. Rather than showing the hills that can be viewed from here it shows the forest path that leads to the hillock.

SD-40N leads the transfer (YSP 51) from E Mpls to South St Paul. Crossing the Robert Street bridge on a very cold day. Good to see old friends today braving the cold.

This path leads to a WWII bunker just over the summit. From there you overlook the suburb of North Ward and the Strand. In the distance you can see Magnetic Island. You can tell by the clothes that Winter is very mild here.

AVR 4001 leads a short 9 car train down the ex-B&O on a sunny December day. Built in 1910, the former Experimental Mine of the U.S. Bureau of Mines makes for a nice photo prop along the route. The building is now part of a larger facility for the National Energy Technology Laboratory.

CN SD60F 5538 leads two UP motors and Thunder Bay coke empties down Steelton Hill six years ago on April 16, 2016.

Up ahead at Pokegama Yard, CN would take the cowl off, and the empties would continue down the Hinckley Sub. to the Twin Cities with a UP crew and yellow 4205 leading.

The Thunder Bay coke trains still run via UP-CN during the shipping season but of course, it's no longer possible to get a cowl leading like this. Despite being taken in the middle of the excruciatingly long brown season up here by Lake Superior, I think this one has aged better than some. CN retired its fleet of SD60Fs the next year.

If the path is beautiful, let us not ask where it leads.

One of the more neglected parts of Blackburn..and there are plenty of them! Pity as this leads to the lovely cathedral. Taken from the cathedral side. I nevertheless find beauty in all the different textures..view large to apreciate them.

This road leads through volcanic territory on a small island off Iceland. Heimaey, an island that lives from fishing. A volcano last erupted there in 1973, almost destroying the small town on the island. Parts of the town now lie under a layer of lava 8 metres high. So it's under the road in this photo.

A well worn path leads through granite, grass, and bracken, up to the Bassett Monument at Carn Brea. A great place to look out over the North coast and the Atlantic beyond.

Hugh outcrops of weather worn granite surround the area. A Neolithic settlement was discovered in the 1970's that showed that it was occupied between 3700 ad 3400 BC....

I'm very grateful for all your visits and would like to thank you now for stopping by, and any comments you may leave. Much appreciated, John...

Central Midland Railway HLCX 1521 leads three cars West past the bluff East of Labadie which strangely has an odd looking cave dug into it. I'm rather curious of how or why that cave came about, but I'm assuming it might have something to do with the pipeline property behind the cliff. Anyhow, trying to find an open spot along the steep ground leading up to the cliff's edge proved challenging but I was able to cling onto a tree right on the edge here to get enough of a view through all the brush. I'm glad I even got some red leaves in what is otherwise an area of sparse fall colors at best and an otherwise clear view of train and bluff. Who knows, maybe Bigfoot usually sits on the ledge of the cave watching the trains go by on his Missouri vacations.. Labadie, MO

MRL #4315 leads the eastbound "ML" passing the searchlights at East Lombard, MT in Lombard Canyon. In the distance, the bridge that carried the former Milwaukee Road's Pacific Extension across the Missouri river still stands as a testament to the efforts Milwaukee went to in their quest to reach the Pacific ocean. Unfortunately I'm about 50 years to late for an over/under of trains on both lines so I had to make due with what I had.

CN 2454 leads eastbound train 306, as they head along the countryside, crossing the trestle at Saint Eleuthere, PQ, in Fall's full force. Of all the trips I've made here in the Fall, this is the most colorful that I've seen it.

Our hike leads us along Антени (Anteni), which rises powerfully on the left of this image above the dark pine trees. Its broad, lightly rocky flank catches the sunlight filtering through a scattered sky. The drifting clouds add depth to the atmosphere, allowing light and shadow to continuously sweep across the slopes. Further left in the distance, slightly toward the center of the frame, lies Titov Vrv — the highest peak of the Šar Mountains National Park (2,747 m). From afar it appears softer in shape, almost bluish-grey against the horizon, yet its massive presence remains unmistakable. It is remarkable to see it resting so subtly within the landscape, like a quiet giant behind the foreground ridges. In the foreground, the spruce trees create a dark natural frame, while grassy hills roll in layered waves toward the horizon. The open mountain scenery gains extra dynamism from the interplay of clouds and sun: some slopes light up while others fall back into shadow. This constant shift makes the scene vibrant without losing its sense of calm. What makes this place even more special today is that it is not only a hiking destination, but also a place for horse riding. Horse Riding 1May, nestled here in the Sharr Mountains, offers rides of approximately 5 hours toward the Leshnica Waterfall. For those who love horseback riding, it is a unique way to experience this vast landscape — under the same open sky and between the same sweeping mountain ridges. Visitors can also extend the experience by staying overnight. Up here, you still feel that this is not a backdrop, but true wild habitat. Bears, wolves and lynx genuinely live in these mountains — mostly unseen, yet always present in thought. The hike itself is technically straightforward, but the altitude makes itself felt. It is not a heroic expedition, and precisely that simplicity makes it special: to pause, breathe, and look out as the layers of the Šar massif unfold beneath a vivid sky.

A wide view over the Šar Mountains National Park, with Антени (Anteni) rising on the left and Titov Vrv visible in the distance. Under a soft scattered sky, sunlight moves gently across the rolling slopes and forested valleys. The small farm visible on the hillside is Horse Riding 1May, from here, visitors can explore the mountains on horseback, including longer rides, or simply stay overnight and experience the vastness and quiet of this remarkable landscape.

Conrail B36-7 5000 leads the eastbound from Lima into the yard at Mansfield. He is just getting off the main and entering the yard lead, while passing the classic Westinghouse Electric Co. building. Even at the time of the photo, the building was only a remnant of the structures that once stood there. I believe this corner end still stands but who knows for how long. I know I'm getting old because way back in the mid-1980's, I actually made a sales call in that complex, back when the blue sky area above the GP38-2 and cars was also industrial buildings. And East 4th street was like driving through a ally between skyscrapers.

CN 5262 leads a 8:18 late City of New Orleans into Chicago as it pulls past 21st Street interlocking where it'll shove back into Chicago Union Station. May 9, 2023

Pennsy Heritage leads manifest 143 south out of Cincy as it crosses the Ohio River into Ludlow, Kentucky.

SD40-2 #6819 leads BN train #48 under the Iris Street rainbow bridge on May 31, 1995. This train was a late evening/early morning departure out of Midway in St. Paul, and could hit the C&I in Savanna sometime around dawn.

The Iris Street bridge is now long gone. But, intermodals (now Z trains) still fly across the hogbacks of the C&I in northern Illinois.

This would have been the last rainbow bridge westbound on both the C&I and the Peavine. I think the only open one left on the C&I is Columbian Road west of Oregon. They all disappeared within a 5-10 year period.

BPRR 5019 leads the road train south splitting a pair of former B&O CPL's.

Kyle SD45T-2 No. 9330 leads an eastbound near Gem, Kansas, on the former Rock Island Mainline to Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Union #2 leads a train of steel slabs from Edgar Thompson.

66591 Leads three more class 66's out of Midland Road depot in Leeds. I was actually here in the hope I would see a Colas class 70 on cement wagons that I saw about half an hour earlier but they never came, I left when it started getting dark.

Norfolk Southern ES44AC #8025 leads train #219 (Kansas City, MO - East Point, GA) through the crossovers at 'Jac Mac' just outside of Atlanta, GA. It took 11 years but this was the last of the NS heritage units I needed to shoot!

UP 1995 leads the ZG1SC 30 out of Ogden, Utah on New Year's Day, 2015.

DL #3007 leads PO75 westbound back to Scranton in some light snow from the night before. They are seen coming around the curve at Cobbs Gap here.

BNSF 8222 leads a trio of elephant-style Warbonnets with Clay Boswell coal east/southbound through Fisher, MN.

Well, now...this is something, ain't it?! It wasn't every day you got to catch a trio of SD75M Warbonnets in 2007, but it happened on this particular afternoon. And with this being an eastbound in the afternoon on a northern plains winter day, there weren't many shooting options to have any sort of light on the nose. But I knew the tracks turned southerly out east in Fisher, so that's where I headed after this train departed Grand Forks...

BNSF 5493 leads what I believe to be a unit sand train of 2-bay hoppers at Savanna, Illinois. The train is passing between the backwater of the edge of the flood-elevated Mississippi River, which should normally be just to the left side of this photo, though the flooding is down a couple of feet from it's crest about a week earlier. While locals including the owners of the water-logged grain elevator seen here wait for the water to recede to perform cleanup, the BNSF seemed to be mostly back to business as usual at this spot. That's the Sabula-Savanna bridge in the distant left, which was opened to traffic in 2017 replacing the previous truss bridge.

This is the last of the images I took last week. The boardwalk leads into (or out of depending on which direction you're walking) the conservation area. What caught my eye originally was the shadows created by the sun cascading through the wooden slats. I have a previous image of this in B&W from the summer months. The temperature when I took this photo was about -16C so if anyone wonders if Canon's work in the cold, this proves they do!

Thanks for viewing my photos, comments are always welcome and appreciated.

-PRIMEIRA FOTO DO MEU PROJETO

CN 2025 leads westbound train 406, as they approach the trestle at Hammond River, New Brunswick. A rare leader makes it's way to these parts. Note the different number boards.

November 14, 2016.

Durango & Silverton 473 leads a full train of passengers around the highline horseshoe just north of Rockwood. The locomotive has just done a blow down causing a rainbow to appear next to the train.

CP 4715 leads a bunch of smaller MLW products and an awful looking blue EMD leaser on train 556 at Emmons, NY on August 22, 1992. This would have been one of my best scores of the CP era on the old D&H, but that blue leaser just messes up what is an otherwise awesome set of power.

37418 leads 11 TTA two axle fuel tanks over the viaduct at Ackworth on the line through Pontefract Baghill to Moorthorpe on the morning of March the 7th 2023. These wagons have been in store at Gascoigne Wood since mid November 2022 after being made redundant in their work carrying Aviation fuel from the Grangemouth Refinery. Running as train 6Z42, the 09:45 from Gascoigne Wood to Lydney, the wagons are heading for a new era in Preservation at the Dean Forest Railway.

NSM 650 leads an empty tailings train past probably the most shot location on the Iron Range towards Silver Bay for another load before returning to the tailings pond later in the morning. The overlook looking towards "Railfan Rock" may be a common shot, but I understood why when I visited for the first time. It really is fantastic.

NS 6811 leads van train No. 23K west on the Chicago Line through Elliston, Ohio with a crew, short on time, trying to make it to Toledo. Norfolk Southern recently announced the sale of a pretty good portion of their "cooler" power, including NS 6811 and the eight other former BN SD60M's on the roster.

The MKT Heritage engine leads the ILAG3 12 through Kaysville, Utah on Nov. 14, 2019.

BNSF 1826 leads a northbound Pikes Peak Local around the frozen waters of Palmer Lake, CO.

This was my first dedicated railfan outing in nearly 4 months...what a nice 'Welcome Back'! The PPL runs north out of Colorado Springs on its return trip to the Denver-area every Tuesday and Friday mornings. It's always a nice catch as it's typically sporting solid, old(er)-school power. Today's H1 SD40-2 was no exception.

D&H 7304 leads Shoreham 1 east around the curve between University Ave. and St. Anthony Pkwy. on August 10, 2018. The Geeps are running stacks from Humboldt Yard to the intermodal ramp at Shoreham, after 199 and 196 finally cleared up during a busy CP morning here in Minneapois.

NHN 3823 leads the southbound across the causeway in Wakefield New Hampshire. After bringing the empties from Dover to Osipee that morning, the train is on it's way back to Dover with loads. A portion of the sand will get dropped in Rochester and the rest will continue onto to Dover where the train will get handed off to Pan Am who will bring it to Boston.

NW J-611 leads the southbound Virginian through Jamestown on the return trip back to Spencer
