He's one of a handful
of faux-Chaplins that stand
by the Chinese Theater daily
and pose for photos for
tourists' tips. In face he's
not my favorite Charlie,
or even close, but this
image of him that I
caught yesterday,
disappearing into an
old Hollywood alleyway,
here on these same
streets that Chaplin
walked,
seemed so right.
A little
Chaplinesque
poem
in October for you
my friends.
Being a huge Seinfeld / Larry David / Curb Your Enthusiasm fan, one of the most see sights on our trip to New York City was Tom's Restaurant also know as the exterior to Monk's Café on Seinfeld. By the way, the food was pretty pretty pretty good too.
Monk's Café is a fictional coffee shop from the NBC sitcom Seinfeld. The exterior of Tom's Restaurant on the corner of West 112th Street and Broadway, near Columbia University, is often shown on the show as the exterior of Monk's, though the interiors were shot on a sound stage. The coffee shop is almost always shot so that "Tom's" in the sign on the Broadway side is not visible. - Wiki

Milton, Larry, and Bob are gonna hate me for this. I couldn't help myself from creating this humorous imitation of the classic Milton Glaser "Dylan" poster, but with Larry David.
Prints available at Society6.
From the best television show to ever hit the airwaves, this is the famous coffee shop from Seinfeld.
The inside looked nothing like how we knew it on TV (the show was shot in LA), but the exterior and signage remains constant. When will this become a historic landmark? Go Seinfeld!
I was so shocked to see it from a distance when Kiran and I were walking to Columbia. I knew it was in the area, but had no idea it was on the street we were walking down!
Knock down any three, and win a prize!
Curb Your Enthusiasm fans will recognise these clowns from the cover of the Season 4 DVD -- in fact, Larry David's office is in Santa Monica, and this was take at Santa Monica pier. Perhaps they used this actual set.

Tom's Cafe is located on the corner of 112th Street and Broadway in Manhattan. "Tom's Restaurant was the locale of Suzanne Vega's 1987 song "Tom's Diner." Later its exterior was used as a stand-in for the fictional Monk's Café in the popular television sitcom Seinfeld, where comedian Jerry Seinfeld's eponymous character and his friends regularly gathered to eat. The interior, however, looked very little like the real "Tom's", as indoor scenes were filmed on a set in California resembling the Broadway diner between 101st and 102nd Streets." Wikipedia.

We had a Rainbow Make-Up Party, since we had some drop-outs from the official party. So we called this Rainbow Party #13.1. 5 people were present: Carolyn & Clio, Jess, Svetlana, and Jill. We had Cosmos, hung out, and did our hair.

These buildings on 43rd between 9th and 10th avenue. Manhattan Plaza was home to many famous actors and entertainers, ranging from Bob Hope and James Dean to Jerry Seinfeld, Alicia Keys, Madonna, John Michael Bolger, Sylvester Stallone, Jerry Seinfeld, Larry David, David Schnitter, Martin Treat, and Pedro Pietri are a few names that I found with a few minutes research.
When the stock market crashed
back in 1929,
a lot of people
found their lives
in ruin. Fortunately, there
stood one beamish boy
among the ruins
to bring hope
to the hopeless.
And his name
was Sparks.
Jonah Sparks.
It could be, anyway ... Spotted amongst additional material on 'Seinfeld' Season 1-3 DVD. As a frequent whiteboarder myself, interesting to see Mr David at work. What does the colour coding mean? "Funeral at sea - song is catchy"? What's that? What's his *system*?
L.A. Farm - "Do you mind if I start?" The building L.A. Farm is in is also Larry's new office.

This is a the first draft notebook for the 17th episode of the sixth season of Seinfeld, "The Kiss Hello."
Larry David, cocreator and writer of nearly sixty episodes of Seinfeld, handwrote his first drafts in spiral bound notebooks. David spent anywhere from four days to two weeks writing an episode. He would then read his draft out loud to Jerry SEinfeld. The two would discuss changes, and Seinfeld would write a new draft in longhand on a yellow legal pad. An assistant would then type the script in standard form. In addition to the dialogue, David's notebook contain plot outlines, scene ideas and notes for future shows.
The Museum of the Moving Image, located at 36-01 35 Avenue in Astoria, promotes the public understanding and appreciation of the art, history, technique and technology of film, television, and digital media by collecting, preserving, and providing access to moving-image related artifacts via multimedia exhibitions and educational programming. Originally established in 1977 as the Astoria Motion Picture and Television Center Foundation, opened on September 10, 1988, in the former East Coast home as Paramount Pictures as the first museum in the United States that was evoted solely to the art, history and technology of film, television and video. Following a $67 million expansion by architect Thomas Lesser, starting in March 2008, the museum doubled its size and reopened in January 2011.

..."Why would you want to hear my story? Do we know each other? Do we like each other? Let me tell you right off, ok... I'm not a like-able guy. Charm has never been a priority with me. And just so you know, this is not the feel good movie of the year. So if you're one of those idiots who needs to feel good, go get yourself a foot massage...
... What the hell does it all mean anyhow? Nothing. Zero. Zilch. Nothing comes to anything. And yet, there's no shortage of idiots to babble. Not me. I have a vision. I'm discussing you. Your friends. Your coworkers. Your newspapers. The TV. Everybody's happy to talk. Full of misinformation. Morality, science, religion, politics, sports, love, your portfolio, your children, health. Christ, if I have to eat nine servings of fruits and vegetables a day to live, I don't wanna live. I hate goddamn fruits and vegetables. And your omega 3's, and the treadmill, and the cardiogram, and the mammogram, and the pelvic sonogram, and oh my god the-the-the colonoscopy, and with it all the day still comes where they put you in a box, and its on to the next generation of idiots, who'll also tell you all about life and define for you what's appropriate. My father committed suicide because the morning newspapers depressed him. And could you blame him? With the horror, and corruption, and ignorance, and poverty, and genocide, and AIDS, and global warming, and terrorism, and-and the family value morons, and the gun morons. "The horror," Kurtz said at the end of Heart of Darkness, "the horror." Lucky Kurtz didn't have the Times delivered in the jungle. Ugh... then he'd see some horror. But what do you do? You read about some massacre in Darfur or some school bus gets blown up, and you go "Oh my God, the horror," and then you turn the page and finish your eggs from the free range chickens. Because what can you do. It's overwhelming! I tried to commit suicide myself. Obviously, it didn't work out. But why do you even want to hear about all this? Christ, you got your own problems. I'm sure your all obsessed with any number of sad little hopes and dreams. Your predictably unsatisfying love lives, your failed business ventures. "Oh, if only I'd bought that stock! If only I-if only I purchased THAT house years ago! If only I'd made a move on THAT woman." If this, if that. You know what? Gimmie a break with your could have's and should have's. Like my mother used to say, "If my grandmother had wheels, she'd be a trolley car." My mother didn't have wheels. She had varicose veins. Still, the woman gave birth to a brilliant mind. I was considered for a Nobel Prize in physics... I didn't get it. But, you know, its all politics. It's like every other phony honor. Incidentally, don't think I'm-I'm bitter because of some personal setback. By the standards of a mindless, barbaric civilization, I've been pretty lucky...
...That's why I can't say enough times, whatever love you can get and give, whatever happiness you can filch or provide, every temporary measure of grace, whatever works."

it used to be that danish comedians could blatantly steal their material from "the outside world" and no one would ever notice, because no one paid attention to danish television or cinema, and, at the same time, most danes were clueless about what has was happening outside of denmark (which is still pretty much the case today, but the same thing could be said about many americans).
thanks to the net, cheaper travel, and a greater dominance of global television, the world has gotten smaller and people here are finally starting to discover that their homegrown talent, their so-called comic genuises, are nothing more than frauds, fakes, and imposters; as the sources from which they borrowed from are finally staking their rightful claim to the creative material that has been stolen from them.
the headline on the top says dirch's cultural canon was a copy. the story behind this is that famous comedian and cultural icon dirch passer, who has had segments of his comedy routines earmarked as part of denmark's cultural canon, is accused of finding his key material elsewhere while passing it off as his own. more importantly, this particular comedy routine has been cited as being essentially danish.
many people have known that television personality casper christensen "borrows" pretty much all of his material from other entertainers, amongst them larry david, david letterman, dennis miller, pee wee herman, and british comedians, chris evans, vic reeves, and bob mortimer; and above, the corresponding headline says tv series Clown is strongly "inspired" by american tv show.
casper christensen does not have one original bone in his body, and now, with the discovery of dirch passer's transgressions, it has become all too clear that this very popular comic legend has also turned the same trick, this time taking his material from an american comedian named art metrano.
good riddance. maybe this will inspire a search for true and original danish talent (of which there are many) and not the kind of second rate, too eager to please talent that feels that the only way that they can be good enough, is if they steal their material from someone else and claim it as their own.
grrrr....
...and now, back to being a positive, happy person...
