On Thursday I rented this brush cutter for a week to try and tackle the undergrowth on my forest… and trust me I need a full week to be able to get it all done.

Friday it had a flat tire, so they came out and fixed it for free, so yesterday and today I have been cutting, cutting, and more cutting.

This machine is awesome and works so well. It does take some manhandling, and pushing around 300lbs for six hours today has sure taken its toll on me... but I sure got a lot done!!

Year Sixteen Of My 365 Project

I am standing in the first third of my property, looking back at the remaining two-thirds of my property (not all the property is in frame but close).

I somehow managed to mow the property by hand in two days- no tractor or riding equipment, just a dude, a brush cutter, and a lot of muscle (and a little bit of gas). I really wanted to get it all mowed of course, but I thought that was a bit unrealistic. I'm glad I proved myself wrong!

I did leave a few parts wild and uncut for the wildlife that like to stray on my land (deer, turkeys, bears, coyotes, and birds. No snakes though: they are permanently banned ha-ha).

Year Sixteen Of My 365 Project

The Yellow Bird of Paradise (Caesalpinia gilliesii) is putting forth bright yellow blossoms with long red stamens. Yellow Bird of Paradise is native to Argentina and Uruguay but is grown here because it does well in a low water environment. When it is not blooming it is sometimes mistaken for Mesquite because it is similar in shape and in the shape of its leaves.

We are 200 miles (322km) south of home and 5100 feet (1554m) lower in altitude. The desert plants are starting to bloom. Spring is here.

This is my newest toy to my collection of Landscape Equipment. This Lesco Commercial Pro Spreader set me back a little bit but will have it well paid off by the end of the season.
