Much of Lancaster County Pennsylvania is made up of rural farms that dot the landscape with towering silos.

This Lancaster was spotted over Cowes (Isle of Wight, UK).

Lancaster Priory's historic clock has marked time for locals and visitors alike since 1886. The tower, built in 1759, is one of the finest church towers in the country. On the hill above the city of Lancaster, the tower is an iconic sight visible for miles around.

Lancaster Priory, formally the Priory Church of St Mary, is the Church of England parish church of the city of Lancaster. A Roman fort existed on the site from the 1st century, and some form of church may possibly have been established around the year 200. It is believed that a monastery had been established here prior to the Norman conquest of England.

The interior of Lancaster Priory, formally the Priory Church of St Mary, is mostly medieval but has 13 centuries of history, evident from traces of a Saxon church, such as the Saxon doorway with Anglican cross fragments, 14th Century choir stalls, superb tapestries, and King’s Own Memorial Chapel with historical regimental standards and battle honours.

The present building holds Viking ornaments, crusaders’ coffins and part of Jacobean ‘three-decker’ pulpit. The Memorial Chapel holds arguably the most complete collection of Regimental Colours in the country.

80th Anniversary event. Only two Lancaster’s are now airworthy.

Avro Lancaster PA474 is a four-engined, Second World War era, Avro Lancaster heavy bomber operated by the Royal Air Force Battle of Britain Memorial Flight as a tribute to all members of Bomber Command during the Second World War.

PA474 is one of only two Lancasters in flying condition in the world, the other being owned and flown by the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum.

Lancaster Castle, Lancaster, Lancashire, England

Lancaster Castle, often known as John O’ Gaunt’s Castle, is one of the most historically fascinating surviving buildings in the country. Its beginnings date back to Roman times when, from its commanding position on the hill overlooking the town of Lancaster and the River Lune, it stood as a bastion against the marauding forces of the ancient Picts and Scots tribes.

That was the saying I often heard as a kid growing up in Lancaster County. It is in regard to how high the corn should have grown by this date.

Lancaster Falls, Oregon

A lovely treat of a waterfall along the Mt. Defiance trail. I did not do the trail in its entirety, I had a lot of other plans for the day so I only had time to check out the area a little bit, admire some waterfalls, and hop onto the Starvation Ridge trail to gaze at the incredible views before going back into town. But I do look forward to exploring that area more once spring arrives.

I first noticed this technique of blowing out the highlight detail at an art exhibit and have always wanted to recreate it.

The Lancaster Canal was constructed in the 1790s and was intended to run from Lancaster to Kendal in the north and to Preston in the south. This is the northern part of the canal above Tewitfield, where a road has cut this off from the canal to the south. No boats operate here, though there has been talk of reuniting the various parts of the canal.

CPKC 241 charges through Lancaster, Minnesota with 20 miles left to go until the international border crossing between the US and Canada. I am a big fan of the Soo Line era station sign here. It adds a nice consistent touch to a railroad that slowly loses Soo Line evidence over time.

As a side note, the road crossing with Manitoba is only 10 miles north of Lancaster, and this town is the last chance for fuel before reaching the border on US 59.

Lancaster and Chester EMD SD60M #8782 is on the point of Train 12 in Richburg, South Carolina as the crew shuffles cars around the yard there. In this shot, the train is stretched beyond Faddis Concrete Products.

The original castle dates back to the 1100s, but this gateway house was built in the 15th Century. The castle also served as a prison until just 8 years ago!

Not a great photo for detail as it was flying quite high , but still a striking silhouette.

Cloudy and dramatic today. Dodged a few raindrops, but not too bad.
