Working with designers leads to some beautifully crafted work getting on our presses. So when Steve and Chris from United Creatives asked us to print these Whisky labels for their client Artisan Scotch Whisky makers Compass Box Whisky Company, we knew we were getting involved in something exciting.

The labels were letterpress printed on our vintage presses in one colour onto a beautiful uncoated label stock. The labels also required a die cut shape which we decided to 'kiss-cut'. This means cutting the shape out of the top sheet of the paper enabling the label to be peeled off the backing sheet in one piece ready to be applied to the bottles.

Stock chromolithograph label, probably produced in France,1920s or 1930s.

This is a now closed Carlisle's / Dillard's Home Store / Famous Labels store at the Ashtabula Towne Square Mall. I am not sure if any Famous Labels stores are still open but this one closed quietly in early 2010 after only being open since late 2007.

The Ashtabula Towne Square Mall (originally called Ashtabula Mall) was opened in October 1992. The original anchor stores of the mall were Kmart, JCPenney, Dillard's, Sears, Phar-Mor, and Carlisle's. Sadly as of spring 2014 the mall only has two anchor stores, a Super Kmart and a JCPenney, on the western part of the mall. It appears that the interior of the mall is at least 50% vacant with the food court and eastern half of the mall completely empty. The remaining businesses are clustered in the western part of the mall near JCPenney and Super Kmart then continue until the cinemas behind the food court.
