Consumed By Design: Make.Eat.Live.
A year-long project aimed at exploring the visceral and conceptual experience of food, and where it intersects with design. Whether examining the relation of colour to taste, the joys of plating, the intricacies of wine label design and anything else foodie, I plan to eat and make my way through the year with gusto.

Project No. 85
A very tasty, albeit somewhat harried Bay Scallop and Leek Chowder from Pike Place Chowder. A bit pricey, but the scallops were fantastic. Just don't go there ten minutes before close on a Saturday. The first thing they said to us on the way in was "Just so you know, we're out of everything."
Consuming Seattle:
Since we had a bit of an event to celebrate, the lady and I took a trip down to Seattle for the weekend. Our itinerary included a few stops, the Experience Music Project/Science Fiction Museum, the Underground Tour, Pike Place Market and food. Lots and lots of food. Before we'd even left, we'd already lined up most of our eats. So this week's posts will be mainly devoted to eating the heck out of a new city.

"It's like comparing apples to oranges."
I've never quite understood that expression, considering that you're comparing two things which are approximately the same size, and serve a similar purpose. Wouldn't it be more appropriate to say something along the lines of "It's like comparing apples and tractors"?

A feisty number from the Rebar cookbook, I don't really recommend serving it with strawberries, but it did look nice for the picture.

Label design for Windfall Cider, a Community project.
The Windfall Cider is made using a range of apples foraged from both (commercial and private) local population of Bristol (and the surrounding area). Participants can volunteer fruit trees or waste fruit from their gardens or businesses to be used for fermentation to make batches of cider. In return, they receive bottles of cider that constitute a percentage of the profits donated to local food banks.
What underpins the focus of this product is Bristol Beer Factory's desire to develop a community brand that utilises food that would otherwise be wasted, educate participants about care for their fruit trees and foster community engagement with the serious issue of food waste.
Realised in Adobe Illustrator: I chose to hand make the background by utilising pastels in order to suggest the idea of craft and nature. Then I scanned the different coloured sheets and I have put them on digital (in Adobe Illustrator) where I made the outlines. I chose this shapes because it suggest the idea of unity (by putting together different circles) and symbolising the apples.
I chose this typeface to relate it to the logo with Bristol Beer Factory.
