A path to an empty wallet ;)
This is Queens Arcade in Leeds, England. The city centre has many little arcades like this with small boutique fashion and gift shops. The floor in this arcade is unique in that it is a mosaic - a rarity in today’s modern age. The mosaic here is based on repeating geometrical patterns, rather than a specific subject or message.

112 Pictures in 2012: #102 - Vanishing Point
This is my first attempt at the looksmart assignment - I'm not entirely happy with it for a number of reasons not least that it never occured to me that asking someone to stare at a lit bulb would cause them to screw their eyes up which makes it pretty difficult to capture an engaging expression. There's also the fact that the bulb is plugged into the mains via various pieces of two damaged ornamental desk lamps held together with gaffer tape and wishful thinking and I'm not sure that in the real world it's considered a good idea to risk electrocuting a potential nobel prize winner with some shoddy high school electronics skills for the sake of an inside lead (it's far more likely that a genuine super solar panel designer would have seen me wandering up to the front door with all manner of leads and plugs and decided to lock themselves in the bathroom until I went away and the magazine sent another shooter)
This photo was shot in the stationery cupboard of my un-air-conditioned office which was not a good idea in the middle of a heatwave so this is the best I got in the couple of minutes before we decided to call it a day and beat a hasty retreat to the air-conditioned pub across the road. I'm not super psyched on the expression (i'm not sure it fits the assignment very well) or the large shadow being cast by his nose and I was thinking about re-shooting until i saw that trappedlight and malikmata52 had beaten me to the punch and posted pretty much the same idea so I might leave this one and see if I can come up with something else in the next week.
Lighting:
Single tightly snooted Sunpak 555, dialled right down to 1/64 power, on the other side of the model just out of shot to camera right
There's a little bit of PS work on the image (beyond the ACR conversion) to boost the contrast and completely kill the background
