Mobil Show LED Curtain beim Cage Fight

In the full-size (7.1MP) view of this image, you can make out the breaks between the segments of this sign, making it easy to see that the marquee side-screens are 15x15 grids of 16x16 RGB LEDs, giving them a resolution of 240x240, or not quite .06 megapixels (57.6 kilopixels).

The poles make tones when you touch them. They and a few LED light screens went up on this stretch of Vermont Avenue (around the block from my office) a few years ago and I've been curious about them since. After some clever googling, I found out that the art installation - called Lo-Rez/Hi-Fi was part of a redesign of 1110 Vermont Ave by architects Meejin Yoon and Eric Howeler. The lobby of the building "spills" onto the sidewalk with this public art - at least that's what the write up said.
The planters are a relatively new addition. Seems the poles are delicate and people don't quite get you just need to touch them, not swing from them. The LED panel in the background shows faint blue images of whoever is walking behind it - creepy and fascinating at the same time. I make sure to avoid the camera when I walk by.
The Starbucks? Well, surely you've guessed that's where I was really heading on this rainy (where's the snow I was promised, dammit!?) afternoon.
I found another article full of rather pretentious wonder and awe. No comments about spilling though.

This is the coolest elevator bank I have ever seen. The elevator bank is actually a giant LED screen tv that shows videos throughout the day. During the holidays, there is a special holiday video. This was an interlude as I was waiting for the holiday show, which attracted a lot of visitors.

One of the largest video walls I have ever seen- this one is fitted on the side of the Town Hall/ Partition Museum in Amritsar, and is very close to the Harmandir Sahib/ Golden Temple, which is incidentally the subject of the movie playing on that screen. I have seen the 'world's largest video wall' outside the Times Square shopping mall in Hong Kong, and another 'world's largest' outside the Royal Selangor Club in KL, but this one is the largest of the lot. There is a sign close by this one claiming this to be the 'world's largest' as well, but I did not photograph that notice specifically- it only appeared in another picture I took of the Town Hall by day the following day. Inspired by Little Mark, I also did some hand-held macros where I held my 18mm lens back-to-front against the camera body. Instant macro coolness.
