A quest from the drizzle of Dulwich Hill to Alexandria via the Cook River, Tempe and the scorching slabs of Mascot to get some LED’s and a bit of tape

Vandaag 09-06-2019 de laatste hand aan lijn 11 gelegd. Ruiten er in. Reclames er op. Tram en lijnnummers er op. Laatste schilderwerkjes gedaan.

A "Houchin" ground support vehicle for my Harrier.

I certainly never thought I would be building one of these thats for sure!

Essentially its just a shell housing a 9v removable battery box that is needed to power up my Harriers engine and lights.

It has 1 switch on the top that turns the interior cockpit gauges, fuselage / wingtips solid and delayed flashing lights on and a second switch on the front to switch on the engines turbine fan and also lights up one of the LED's on the support vehicle. The fan is powered by a very noisy micro motor which would drive me bonkers if constantly left on, so I wanted the option to turn it off whilst keeping the rest of the lights on.

With the NSC show looming up in the next few weeks, I thought I'd better get the Harrier finished off! All the electrics are now completed on it, but a fair bit of work is still required on the model, hence the purposely blurred out pic of it in the background of one of these pictures ;)

A unmarked VW Crafter Minibus seen parked just off Whitehall during the 2014 Trooping the Colour.

This was the only one of a few to have LED's fitted front and rear.

Strasburg, MO

Location: Coruscant Underworld, Night Life District

Objective: Delivery of supplies.

Difficulty: Well, it should have been easy.

—LOG ENTRY—

After dodging Admiral Jud’s hunters, I escaped the cold atmosphere of Orto Plutonia and headed to meet my old friend Jahk Duran. I guess after our split he found a group called The Survivors to take refuge with. He told me of their fearless leader Zach, as well as their missions on Tatooine and Zeffo. More recently though has been the outbreak of riots all throughout Coruscant. Since they’ve started to die down he’s been tasked with bringing in supplies and rebuilding the city. I’ve gotta say being away from the action has gotten to me; I miss it, but I’m glad to get back to it.

Entering the Coruscant sky gave me a real idea of what we were up against. Scattered spots of destruction and fire as far as I could see. Im not sure what the riots didn’t touch. I was given coordinates to Coruscant’s Fine Arts District, which is located next to the Night Life district. Cant land there because to my understanding the place is crawling with Imps which makes it a real hot zone. Soon after touching ground in the arts district I met up with Jehk, I felt overwhelmed after not seeing him for so long. We talked shortly on whats been keeping us busy and the such, but with short time we had to get situated with The Survivors and make it over to the Night Life District to start moving supplies.

—END LOG—

“Cray get a move on brother we got quite the walk ahead of us, we have to meet up with group leader.”

“Whats exactly our plan here Jehk?”

“We need to rebuild this city in the end and get rid of the remaining Imperial scum that crawls the underworld. There shouldnt be too many Imps left but watch yourself. Plus you were telling me about that Admiral Jud and his plot to defeat you. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some of his men. Just stay on your toes, watch for anything out of the ordinary, and stick with the group... if you do that you’ll be fine.”

The two men made there way into a large hub, there meeting Jehk’s group leader Hozz Igo.

“I take it you’re the Cray I’ve been hearing rumors about?”

“Yes sir, that would be me, at your command!”

“Well rest easy, we are pretty easy going around here, but when its time to get the jobs done we do it! And thats what will happen concerning these supplies.”

Hozz turns to address the group.

“Hey!! We will be moving in small groups. Taking a few crates each to 6 locations. My group will be Jehk and our new blood Cray Schaf, need to see what this mans made of. As for the rest of you keep your same groups as we had for controlling the riots. Watch your back for Imperial Scouts or just some lowlife thugs looking to ruin your day. You have valuable items here. A lot of people want this stuff but we have a job to do... so lets get to it. Each of your crates should already have the destinations locked in, all you gotta do is escort it.”

The group scurries to get their cargo and move out. In the midst of the chaos Cray finds himself looking up into the vast city planet of Coruscant. There spotting an old Imperial astro mech droid moving across a walkway... Cray lets Jehk know but he assures him there aren’t any Imps in the immediate area.

Cray moves over to the crates and checks the destinations. Theres a nightclub by the name “Clúb Ice” located in the heart of the Nightlife District.

“Lucky us”

He turns on the hover mode and punches the destination into the AGS. Now? Well all they gotta do now is make sure the supplies get there. Shouldn’t be too much of a problem, right?

“Its awfully quite around here” Jehks uneasy voice is sure a cause for concern. For having riots not to long ago the roads are extremely calm. Only the occasional bit of rubble or dumpster fire. Moving deeper into the heart of the district the men started spotting people on binoculars looking down at their convoy, talking through communication holograms or to each other about the goods the men were traveling with.

After a cautious stroll they make it to the club, typing in the codes to drop the crates and then getting an update through high command that the people picking up the supplies were running a tad late and now they are going to have to sit with the supplies until they arrived.

“Well thats just great!” Exclaims Hozz. Clearly not his first time dealing with this type of situation. The men take watch. Each glaring a different direction... it’s almost nothing for 20 minutes. The men are starting to become uneasy.

“Can anyone hear that” Hozz quickly questions as the sound of metal clanking sends shivers down the spines of both Cray and Jehk.

“Well whatever it is its getting closer, who’s picking up these supplies anyways??” Cray questions as he holds his gun in the direction of the metal clanking.

“Ha, you act like we are supposed to know, they just gave us this mission, with the location. They don’t tell us anything else.”

“You’ve got to be kidding me” Cray is in disbelief, but theirs no time to sit and ponder, whatever is making noise is right around the corner. He gets ready.

What rounds the corner stuns all the men.

“An Imp Medical droid? I haven’t seen one of those in ages!” Cray sets his weapon down. He asks the droid what its doing here.

“Just going for a walk”

And no later as it says that a scout trooper and Imperial Bounty hunter make their way out of the Nightclub’s balcony accompanied by the astro mech droid Cray saw earlier. He takes out his staff and makes quick work of the medical droid while Hozz and Jehk take care of the enemies on the roof. With one of Jehks shots sending the astromech’s head flying.

With the supplies still secured the men end up waiting another 2 hours before anyone arrives. It was a quick and quiet transaction. Tired from the day and ready to head back the men make their way to get some rest because this is just one of 5 supply running missions. And they can be sure to see many more foes along the way.

Thank you biskitboy for the obvious inspiration.

Thank you explore the darkness for the trip, LED's and anything els i forgot!!

The wiring took two attempts. The previous one had problems that some of the LED's wouldn't light up fully. I'll probably rewire it again after the convention circuit.

More playing with light................

Over at the Dream sculpture in St.Helens last night with a couple of mates, wanted to try this idea so painted light behind Neal moran while he moved around the scene, cheers fella :)

We had a good laugh and all got a few pics,

Thanks for looking,

Chris.

I think that I have all of the sweeping curves with Mount Hood in the background scoped out now. This is the curve just before Mirror Lake trail parking.

I'm putting together a T/L vid that includes light trail from three different spots with the mountain in the background.

Well, I had the urge to go light painting during the day recently and when that comes about I just head to the drains.

This is my trusty and awesome spot. An eight foot high corrugated steel drain that just loves to put off some great reflections.

I wanted to try out the little orb tool that I've made and I have to say that I think I need more weight on it. I just know that I can knock out really crisp orbs with the steel wool but when it comes to the LED's, they are always all over the place.

Does more weight help or do I just need to keep practicing to get them crisp with the LED's?

This is straight from the camera with the fluorescent white balance set. I've never really tried with switching up the white balances but I may venture into that more in the future.

I've got a ton of different ideas floating around right now, I just need to get out and get painting! I have a couple more shots from the drain to come as well, stay tuned!

This took me a lot of time and energy to finish it at the last minute. But there are over 100 LED's lighting up my Lego Trans Europ express. Everything from cabine lights to table lamps are fitted with LED's.

I use cheap Aliexpress LED's all the wiring and connecting is custom made/done. And there a lot of hours in doing that.

The pictures that are featured in this post are from the Lego eisenbahntreffen in Schkeuditz. There are multiple amazing layouts including one from Maciej Drwięga, UrbanErwin and noppenbahnen.

I've been prepping for this trip for weeks, as I learn to stitch, use led's, and work with exposures. The wind was blowing, so a lot of shots were blown out. I think this works.

This is a 2 year old picture I shot with the legendary Canon EF 200 1.8L on my old 5D MKII. This is a 9-pic multirow panorama and atz f1.8 at 200mm, 1/200 and ISO 3200. Some strange bokeh effects due to the strong LED's in the front - but I like it !

First test shots using the Apurture Amaran AHL-HC100, a LED RIng Light that uses 100 LED's.

Thanks, Rob.

The second of my Tramway bridge photos. You can see from the movement on the Swans that the LED's were changing colour fairly rapidly. Unfortunately there is some banding in the sky due to 500px's compression, it's not on the actual file. Thank you for looking.

tried light painting spheres for the first time. almost got a perfect one...need more practice with technique.

used two color changing led's from the dollar store tied on a string.

Found a seed type thingy which looked like a dandelion head but wasn't. Thought I should take it home, spray water at it, blow vape at it and then wave led's at it.

I feel this should be hung on the wall at anger management sessions.

This is number 191 of my 365.....and you're asleep.

Week 11 of the Behind The Lens group is Thanksgiving - Very appropriate for any day of the year as far as I am concerned but I do especially hope all of you in the States had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend.

Okay, so after seeing my first shot of the Lions Gate Bridge (below), my Mother suggested to me that The Lions Gate Bridge was once owned and actually built by the Guinness Family of yep, you guessed it, the Irish beer! So I looked it up and true story! The Guinness family purchased 4,700 acres of land (which is now called the British Properties) in West and North Vancouver as well as financed the bridge, which they tolled - 25 cents per crossing when it first opened in 1939. The bridge cost the family $5,873,837.17 and on January 20, 1955, the Guinness family sold the bridge to the province of British Columbia for $5,959,060, and in 1963, the tolls were dropped. Furthermore, In 1986 the Guinness family, as a gift to Vancouver, purchased decorative lights that make it a distinctive nighttime landmark.

Interesting Fact

In July 2009, the bridge's lighting system was updated with new LED lights to replace this existing system of 100-watt mercury vapour bulbs. The switch to LEDs is expected to reduce power consumption on the bridge by 90 per cent and save the Province about $30,000 a year in energy and maintenance costs. The average replacement time of one of the traditional light bulbs was about 72 hours. With the new LED bulbs, which are designed to last 12 years, it could be a decade before any work crew is called out to do a replacement.

So next time you are drinking Guinness beer you can raise your glass and thank them for connecting North and West Vancouver and for the wonderful landmark they left the city.

Cheers!

Now it`s done! My biggest dream since i build Lego (about 6 years ago) is true. I want build always a big Star Wars Diorama like Hoth ore something, but Rhen Var from the old Battlefront games are such a great planet and doenst see really much of this location. So, now some facts: - Building time 10 months - 250.000 parts - 250 minifigs - size 2,5 x 1,5 meters Credits to SIaki, Brickwright and a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/28192677@N06/sets/72157626369894865"> Lary Lars for the X/Y-Wing and Snowspeeder. Also to all they build an AT-AT the last time! I have only 3 weeks time to build it complete and so i was inspiration by many versions of it. After the exhibition next week in Mondsee/Austria i would make an new AT-AT, this version is not so really perfect but the time was running! Special Thanks to Boga for the LED`s and all they help me with tips and parts.

Taken of the Crown Fountain in Millennium Park in Chicago, Illinois.

Crown Fountain is a very cool piece of public art which is constantly changing and is fun to see. I wondered just how it works and so took this small part of the fountain which reveals the LED lights that are in the glass bricks and create the moving images.

Wikipedia has a lot of information about it here:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crown_Fountain

Part of their story:

"Crown Fountain is an interactive work of public art and video sculpture featured in Chicago's Millennium Park, which is located in the Loop community area. Designed by Spanish artist Jaume Plensa and executed by Krueck and Sexton Architects, it opened in July 2004. The fountain is composed of a black granite reflecting pool placed between a pair of glass brick towers. The towers are 50 feet (15.2 m) tall, and they use light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to display digital videos on their inward faces. Construction and design of the Crown Fountain cost $17 million. The water operates from May to October, intermittently cascading down the two towers and spouting through a nozzle on each tower's front face."
