4 Designs for Philips Luxeon Rebel High Power LED's
Red - Original Sparkfun Design
Orange Round - My Design using Standard footprint produced by Ragworm UK
Purple - My design using standard footprint produced by OSH Park
Orange Hex - Original Design but with thicker copper and wider vias for better heat transfer. Produced by Ragworm UK.
I have tested all 4 in identical settings and found the Round designs to be better at getting the heat away from the LED and spreading it to cool passivly.
The original Hex design works well with a small RAM IC heatsink attached and some active cooling (a small fan) due to the cutouts that allow a through draft to add extra cooling)
All designs work well, The Ragworm boards use slightly thicker copper which seems to help shift the heat and keep the LED stable.
I've been a fan of Miss Led's art for a while and i've been trying to see her do some live art for ages now. Getting to see her paint was superb.
Miss Led was painting at the Red Bull Fashion Factory as part of the London fashion week.
Please check out her art...
The USB ports on my laptop are upside down, but you can still see the reflection of the blue indicator light that the Voyager has.
The first working prototype for the physical game in my thesis work at DePaul. Shown here is the photo-transistor based sensing of a standard laser pointer. Sensitivity is controlled by a potentiometer. Visual feedback is by way of LED's variably throbbed by 555 timers, modulated by digital potentiometers, green when aligned, red when not. An IR detector is used for monitoring the "cranking" up of power, and controlling the rotation of a motor that will be used for alignment. As power is added, the throbbing slows down. This project is Arduino based. Zigbee based wireless communication allows ad-hoc mesh networks of these stations to form scalable site specific games.
