We spent a day in a big farm field near Helm, in the Central Valley of California. LDRS is a big yearly rocket event where people arrive from all over the USA. I also met a couple from Argentina. Drag races are popular with rocketry, usually with low or mid-power rockets. 6 people decided to drag race their M-motor class rockets, which are fairly large rockets. That's the largest motor allowed in California, for larger ones you need to go to Nevada. The drag race was near sunset. I positioned myself so that the sun was directly in the line of the rockets. You see 4 rockets here, one took of with a few seconds delay, one did not take off. If you look close you can see the shock diamonds, which are a formation of standing wave patterns that appear in the supersonic exhaust plume of the motor.
I processed a balanced HDR photo from a RAW exposure, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate your critical feedback.
