Officer: What you are taking pics of?
Me: The city and the helix.
Officer: You know its suspicious behavior to take pictures of this structure.
Me: Im within my rights.
Officer: Avoid this area and the area surrounding the Lincoln Tunnel helix.
Me: Photography of public structures such as bridges are allowed to be photographed as long as Im not blocking traffic, police activity or trespassing on private property. Goodnight.
The times we live in....With all due respect to the law, Im not trying to argue or even explain myself to authority but I feel we have lost some of our rights to Photograph the world. Id like to enjoy my passion for photography without feeling like Im involved in a criminal act.

This is a public service announcement
With guitar
Know your rights all three of them
Number 1
You have the right not to be killed
Murder is a CRIME!
Unless it was done by a
Policeman or aristocrat
Know your rights
And Number 2
You have the right to food money
Providing of course you
Don't mind a little
Investigation, humiliation
And if you cross your fingers
Rehabilitation
...
Know these rights
Number 3
You have the right to free
Speech as long as you're not
Dumb enough to actually try it.
Know your rights
These are your rights
...
Finally then I will read you your rights
You have the right to remain silent
You are warned that anything you say
Can and will be taken down
And used as evidence against you
(The Clash - Know Your Rights)

on saturday there was an Exploited concert in Istanbul and all the punk population in Turkey supposingly gathered at this concert. so the whole center (Taksim area) was conquerred by young Punks. anyways, I was out too and went to a relatively alternative bar (or club-whatever) and of course there were some Exploited spectators there too. so the DJ, who was relatively elder, put some 'punkish' music (like Latino-disco version of Sex Pistols!!!) at which people went crazy, and of course played few Clash songs as well. my dear friends, it is utterly sad but those so-called punks had no clue about Clash! now what the f.ck is that?
PS: Joe Strummer was born in the same city as me, which is ANKARA! not many people know that!!! ;)

For this weeks theme I have chosen "Lines, Angles and Perspectives". This should definitely give me a challenge, as it will force me to get away from the office wall, and will hopefully help me focus on composition a bit. I have taken several interesting shots with these elements before, just most of them without me in it. Should be a fun week :)
I'm also sticking this in FGR today, because the group theme is "Know Your Rights". With the freedoms we have in the U.S. I have the right to stand in an apartment breezeway at whatever time of day I want and take pictures of myself. With freedom of expression, practically any picture I take of myself could go up for the world to see. I rave for our Freedom!
I also want to thank everyone who helped Liina and I to try and find Emily yesterday...I have a feeling she'll be around later!

Joe Strummer was the lead singer and guitarist of the British punk band The Clash. His bands' lyrics were full of messages and themes about social decay, unemployment, racism, police brutality, political & social repression, militarism and anarchism.
After The Clash broke up in the mid 80's Joe went on to form Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros and to play with The Pogues. He was actively involved in music and civil rights his entire life all the way up to his premature death in 2002 at the early age of 50.
If you're not familiar with their music or their politics this video of "Radio Clash" is a good place to start:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-t52zc8Ex4
Although it was made after the band had begun to see considerable success and a is bit more pop sounding than some of their other revolution rock songs, it's a great song and video.

Taken with my compact
Joe, RIP
Lower East Side
Joe Strummer was my musical hero. For a brief moment in time, The Clash were the greatest band in the world. At their peak (before Topper was kicked out) they were the fiercest, most powerful, most soulful, most committed rock band I've ever seen. Joe was full of contradictions, but was well loved all the same. I'll always remember where I was on December 22, 2002 when I heard the news that Joe had died. Talk about a punch in the gut. More importantly, I'll always remember the first time I saw the Clash at the Lyceum in London. I've never seen a more powerful show and likely never will.

Impeach Cheney, but do it according to the rules of the Constitution...
Statement Regarding Impeachment of Vice President Cheney
Ron Paul Speech to Congress
November 6, 2007
Mr. Speaker, I rise, reluctantly, in favor of the motion to table House Resolution 799, Impeaching Richard B. Cheney, Vice President of the United States, of high crimes and misdemeanors, and in favor of referring that resolution to the House Judiciary Committee for full consideration. I voted to table this resolution not because I do not share the gentleman from Ohio's desire to hold those responsible for the Iraqi debacle accountable; but rather, because I strongly believe that we must follow established protocol in matters of such importance. During my entire time in Congress, I have been outspoken in my opposition to war with Iraq and Iran. I have warned my colleagues and the administration against marching toward war in numerous speeches over the years, and I have voted against every appropriation to continue the war on Iraq.
I have always been strongly in favor of vigorous congressional oversight of the executive branch, and I have lamented our abrogation of these Constitutional obligations in recent times. I do believe, however, that this legislation should proceed through the House of Representatives following regular order, which would require investigation and hearings in the House Judiciary Committee before the resolution proceeds to the floor for a vote. This time-tested manner of moving impeachment legislation may slow the process, but in the long run it preserves liberty by ensuring that the House thoroughly deliberates on such weighty matters. In past impeachments of high officials, including those of Presidents Nixon and Clinton, the legislation had always gone through the proper committee with full investigation and accompanying committee report.
I noted with some dismay that many of my colleagues who have long supported the war changed their vote to oppose tabling the motion for purely political reasons. That move was a disrespectful to the Constitutional function of this body and I could not support such actions with my vote.
I was pleased that the House did vote in favor of sending this legislation to the Judiciary Committee, which essentially directs the committee to examine the issue more closely than it has done to this point.

To video or not to video, that seems to be the question... personally I think I'm against video on flickr, so what the hell is this? Actually it's a bunch of stills I took of an amazing mural which pays tribute to the legend that was John Mellor. I chose to accompany it with a cover of a great Clash song from the album London Calling, but instead of doing the obvious thing I chose a haunting version by Jesse Malin. So its a photo tribute to a mural tribute with a tribute song. I think it works, not everyone agrees...
I have no idea where that logo came form at the end, I didn't put it there, weird.
