Waiting for Mom to return with breakfast this Fox Kit takes a break from the roll and tumbles with its siblings.
Sitting and watching the photographer, a fox kit enjoys a warm summer day. This kit was probably born in April, so it is about 3 months old. Summer is short and in another month, this kit will be full grown and out hunting on its own.
I always thought children grew up to fast, and we have them in our care for between 15 and 20 years. A fox kit is born and on its own in less than 4 months.
At a hide near to Blairgowrie in Perthshire, I was waiting excitedly for pine martens to appear, but I was overjoyed when they brought along their kit. The whole experience a joyful one, especially as it was my 65th birthday.
There were four fox kits playing outside the den...these two were too tired to continue...Kawartha Lakes, Ontario, Canada
Just as I decided that pappa had disappeared ( the mangy one) , Momma fox had moved her 5 kits into a woodchuck hole/ den about 80 yards from my house. Something I have been hoping would happen for the last few years. She is gone all day and night, feeding herself and her kids. They are so stinking cute.
Christopher Houston Carson (December 24, 1809 – May 23, 1868) was an American frontiersman. He was a fur trapper, wilderness guide, Indian agent and U.S. Army officer. He became a frontier legend in his own lifetime through biographies and news articles; exaggerated versions of his exploits were the subject of dime novels. His understated nature belied confirmed reports of his fearlessness, combat skills, tenacity, as well as profound effect on the westward expansion of the United States. Although he was famous for much of his life, historians in later years have written that Kit Carson did not like, want, or even fully understand the fame that he experienced during his life
Ardnamurchan never disappoints...
I'm just back from a two week trip to the peninsula on the west coast of Scotland. Lots of walking, exploring, a little bit of wild swimming and plenty of time with my favourites; the Pine Marten.
The jumping shot is an image I've had in my mind's eye for some time. I tried it last year and had some luck, but knew I could do better. I'm really chuffed with this image plus quite a few others over a few evenings trying it!
Simkha pulled a crumpled tissue from my desk and played with it for a long time.
