1. Get some good light going in the kitchen.

2. Have a shot of Tito's vodka with your partner or friend.

3. Thinly slice one or two sweet onions.

4. Heat an iron skillet to 5 out of 10, add a little butter and/or olive oil. Roll two 1/3 pound of hamburger into a ball and place on skillet. Grab onions and place on top. SMASH down very flat with a spatula. Flip when the onions start browning and throw some cheese on. Add bun if you like.

Taken with a camera made for kids that prints on receipt paper. I used various printing techniques to get the desired effect.

yay, another one in the family! woo hoo. Santa brought July a KidCamera... (pink, baby!)

So she happily snapped at grandpa when he got home today!

Of course, that gave me grand warm fuzzies inside...

Yep, she has her own camera now. It was a birthday gift from Audrey's Mema and Papa. She simply adores it!

My son Jonas is loving photography. I was taking pics of his little brother, Milo, and Jonas hopped in wanted to take some too.

Canon 5d 50mm 1.8

Taken with my new (ummm...old) Fisher-Price Creative Effects Camera.

My friend Robbie Rob, a power-electronics-art-maker and PXL2000 filmmaker, told me about this camera few years ago. I secured one today. Instantly "prints" your photo using an old technology (the best kind) called a "fax" printer. Extra bonus...it looks like a toy (because it is one), is styled in black, pink and pool-color green plastic (sexy combination!) and plays a little carnival-style melody after every "shutter" click.

Luca's vtech digital kid camera taking me, taking him. It's weird because no one ever takes a picture of me taking pictures. Fun and a future photographer for sure!

You'll find this poem printed on one of the walls inside Lloyd Center, and I find it very fitting. I have plenty of memories of going to Lloyd Center as a kid. Going there this past weekend was a surreal experience. The juxtaposition of the urban decay with the holiday shopper was a sight to see. Many stores have been gutted, leaving only their hollowed husk behind. Only a few mall staples like Hot Topic and Game Stop remain.

But where Suncost Video, Spencer's Gifts, and many others once stood are now home to small businesses and art galleries running on short-term leases. Along with the ever-present ice-skating rink, these pop-up shops breathe fresh life into the state's largest indoor shopping mall. Combined with the bustling activity of people selling trading cards outside of vacant storefronts and a roller-skating dance workshop taking place in one of the more vacant halls, it gives the sense that Lloyd Center is in the process of transforming.

The mall's website has a grand vision for its future, establishing a "new and vibrant center of urban life for NE Portland and Central City." I welcome this ambition, but until these plans get underway, I will remember what it was and appreciate it for what it is now.
