Mount Deception (11,826 ft.) was named in reference to the crash of a C-47 military transport plane in 1944, which killed all of those onboard. Photo shot near the top of Kesugi Ridge above Little Coal Creek.
By this point, my pants and boots were thoroughly soaked from rubbing against wet plants on the Curry Ridge trail.
On my way north, I stashed my bike at the Beyers Lake Campground, loaded up my backpack, and spent the next two days hiking the Kesugi Ridge Trail through Denali State Park.

Fall-colored tundra and a tarn on Kesugi Ridge, with Denali, Moose's Tooth, and many other Alaska Range peaks in the background.
I was thrilled to be able to go to Alaska for some extended backpacking! A good buddy of mine and myself spent 17 days backing and traveling throughout different parks in Alaska. From ridge trails and Denali National Park (formerly McKinley National Park) to Kennicot and Wrangel-St. Elias, we covered a lot of ground in a short time!
I took this photo of Mount Denali at the top of the first steep climb on the Kesugi Ridge Trail! This trail is located in Denali State Park which is just an hour or two south of Denali National Park! This trail offered some fantastic views of Mt. Denali and the surrounding mountains, forests and meadows! We spent 2 nights on this trail and it was a lot of fun! The landscape was always changing as we hiked up the mountain, onto the ridge and back down again! www.joeboylephotography.com/alaska-denali-mckinley-nation...

Woke up on our last day backpacking Kesugi ridge to an amazing view of Denali shrouded in little bits of clouds. Awesome way to end a hike.

My buddy and I were on the Kesugi Ridge Trail and spent about 3 days on it. It was our first hike in Alaska and we were starting off at a leisurely pace. I hiked a little further ahead and took this photo of the mountains behind us along with Josh, my hiking companion! We spend 17 days in a row backpacking and tenting without a formal shower. Ha, that was an experience in and of itself! :)

I took this ultra-wide photo of Mount Denali at the top of the first steep climb on the Kesugi Ridge Trail!
