I just had to get one of these edited so I could feel like I accomplished something...

Seems like I've been gone forever and I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas holiday. Happy Tuesday to you :)
Snaking through the uppity urban jungle of Near South Side, IC 1012 leads CN L536 south onto the double track portion of the Illinois Central at Kelley. Kelley is a relatively new control point on the east edge of the downtown core. From Kelley to the Air Line and Cermak, the Chicago and Freeport Subs are single tracked, done as part of a multiyear bridge replacement and track realignment project between CN, Metra and the city of Chicago.
Just back from our spring adventure in New York City visiting Matt's brother Michael. They got better pictures, but we all had fun. I'll catch up with folks when I can.
Somewhere in lower Manhattan. Maybe SoHo of Chelsea. I forget. :-)
Oooops... just realized I'm in there. Dang! I had tried to avoid that.

I'd been dying to shoot with Kelley since last summer, and we finally did it last month! We had hoped for a warm shooting day, and as far as February in Minnesota goes it definitely was pretty nice out - but we were still freezing the entire time. She was amazing though, and I absolutely loooooove how this set turned out, and I'm obsessed with this location. More will be on my blog hopefully within a few days!
I'm planning a trip to Los Angeles for the end of the month, so if anyone is interested in booking a shoot or photography mentoring session, please get in touch with me for rates!

A monochrome view from Lexington Avenue and the Grand Hyatt at Grand Central Terminal of the Chrysler Building in mid-town New York City (NYC). Thought i'd post this as an addition to New York Vertical since the more monochrome colours seem to bring out the detail more.

Thunderstorms and lightning over the Pulaski Skyway along Fish House Road and not Fishkill Road (thank you Steve!) while standing under 12 lanes of traffic and the Interstate 95 bridge in the grassy marshlands of New Jersey in the middle of the night.

Kelley Park in San Jose CA brings together a unique mix of relocated and replica historic buildings, and a working trolley line, to help tell the story of the City's early history. For many years the park employed master trolley restorer Fred Bennett, whose craftsmanship helped bring several "chicken coops" (including this San Jose Railways Birney car) back to life as working trolleys.
Here's an old 1984 video on the Kelley Park trolley story, Fred Bennett appears starting at the 13:50 mark: www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTbnD4B8_MQ
The Rub' al Khali is the largest contiguous sand desert in the world, encompassing most of the southern third of the Arabian Peninsula. The desert covers some 650,000 square kilometres including parts of Saudi Arabia, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. It is part of the larger Arabian Desert. One very large pile of sand!!!

Nicely shingled in water cans and oyster tins. Great for protection against the elements, except heat transfer.
I want to construct a shed and I'll face some of the same design tradeoffs. Metal sheeting would be a durable outer covering but it might increase heating and cooling load if we want to keep it temperate inside. A square building would have the lowest surface area to reduce heating and cooling requirements.
