Even after turning down the chance to stay in Houston in 1980, a new job with a Big Oil company meant that I would frequently be back in the Oil Capital of the World. October 14, 1983 was one of those times. I followed my favorite path along the MKT on IH10 knowing that I could end up following the busier Santa Fe if nothing showed by where they cross in Sealy. Just east of Sealy, I picked up this 2nd #105 and turned around to chase back to the rice elevators in the namesake city of Katy, Tx. Seems like most all of the trains ran as 1st, 2nd, or 3rd #105 and they were mostly all stone.
A lot of stone moved on the south end of the Katy in the late 70's to supply the construction boom in the Houston area. Here's a stone train with gondolas on the head end shot from the parallel IH10 just east of Sealy, Tx, April 5, 1980.
Katy at Katy. On August 29, 1985, MKT 631 leads a unit covered-hopper train west through Katy, Texas. This trackage is no longer there. The MKT folded into the UP, and UP trains now enter Houston via another route. Part of the main line west of here was retained as an industrial lead to serve several industries.
Pretty as a picture in the summer sunshine, Kalanchoe blossfeldiana is a delight.
Common names include flaming Katy and Christmas kalanchoe.
This plant is a native to Madagascar and enjoys the warm climate here in my location of Australia where they can remain growing in an outside area all year long.
It is a glabrous, bushy, evergreen and perennial succulent plant. Growing to around 50 cm in height and the same in width. The individuals flowers are very small, just a couple of cm in diameter.

UP 9010 crawls through the array of tracks at Katy Neck, part of a sprawling junction of 3 lines in southeast Houston allowing trains to access the south side of the Port. This transfer from Englewood Yard is curving off the ex-MP/MKT Galveston Sub onto the connection towards the ex-SP Strang Sub, the mainline through the Port.

Describe yourself in four words.
Difficult, irrational, thoughtful, quiet.
Your most recent embarassing moment?
Uhm, I'm so clumsy that it's hard to pin point a particular moment...
Oh, the best one that is kinda recent is when I asked Robert (pilot) if planes have a horn. Yeh...
Never known someone laugh so hard!
Do you bottle things up or let them out?
I bottle things up. People who care about me often have to go through this huge process to get me to open up. I feel bad afterwards.
What makes you angry?
Arrogance. I hate egotistical people. They're generally ignorant at the same time and that doubles my anger. I love confidence but I wish everyone was nice along with it.
What was written in your school report?
"Katy is a very friendly girl"... I wish I was still so innocent and friendly. I'll admit that I'm still a very friendly person... manners cost nothing. But having met so many different people on a daily basis at work I have lost faith in the human race. It's often the elderly who are the rudest in all honesty.
If you could change one thing about yourself...
My lack of will power. I never stick with things. Diets are impossible for me.
What are you most proud of?
In myself? Uhm, the fact that I don't drink or smoke. I think that's an achievement in a binge-drinking nation. Being the daughter of an alcoholic man made me see sense.

loved this photography job - photographing truffles and other divine delights by Katy Quigley of Katy's Kandies. My photos will be used on her new website and for marketing purposes.

Roidweek Fall 2022. "Katy" shot with 1956 4x5 Speed Graphic with f/2.5 178mm Kodak Aero Ektar lens. Shot on Fuji Instax color wide ISO 800 at 1/125 with variable ND filter at about 1/64, in the early evening. Very difficult for anyone to pose with that lens esp if you're busy entertaining while posing. LOL. So much potential. I was not able to get the dust off in time to get a scan and post. Definitely something to work on that we all have to deal with!
Happy RoidWeek!

Our rescue cat Katy, winter 2021. We got her from a shelter after her previous owner had died. She's diabetic with cataracts and when we got her she was in poor condition. Six months later and her diabetes is in remission, her coat is much better and she's much more playful. Her miaows have always been silent but she's learnt to communicate by trilling.
