Somewhere in the state of Karnataka on our drive from Pune to Goa.Since the main highway from Belgaum in Karnataka to Panjim in Goa was closed due to some reason we were diverted through a wildlife santuary. The road (approx.40 kms) was very bad in patches but really beautiful.Shot taken without a stand in very low light so my hand has shaken a bit.
I will be a little busy over the next few days and will be mostly absent from Flickr. Will try and look in sometimes.See you soon dear friends.Take care stay safe.
A photo taken from a train window. I first thought it was a sugarcane field but Google Images says the crop is corn.
Sugarcane is India's traditional crop while corn was introduced to India in the 16th or 17th century after Columbus discovered Americas. Sugarcane needs plenty of time and water to grow, while corn grows quickly even in areas with less rainfall. Sugarcane fields are being replaced with cornfields in Karnataka.
India is the second largest producer of sugarcane after Brazil, and the sixth producer of corn after USA, China, Brazil, Argentine and Ukraine as of 2020.
Sugarcane is native to India as well as Southeast Asia, South China, and New Guinea, and have been chewed for thousands of years in these regions. But the sugar refinement technique was developed in India about 2,500 years ago, which made sugarcane a global crop.
Brewing alcohol from sugar is also an Indian origin, which was elaborated as a liquor called rum in West Indies by the British.
Rum was introduced back to India and is now a popular alcoholic beverage for Indians. Alcohol consumption in India is limited largely due to Hinduism, but rum is often taken on special occasions like festivals.
Stray cow begging for food along the beach. Some will feed them or even brought some food particularly for them. Otherwise, the cow feed of the the food left washed ashore from the devotees of Lord Shiva's rituals. They are very gentle and once have I seen them chasing anyone during my whole month there. It was just beautiful to watch them.
This picture was taken along one of the many beaches of the coast of Karnataka. Lots of dogs and cow. Some are wild too.
