This image is a true oldie, it has been sleeping on my hard drive for almost exactly five years. Now that it's only a few days until Christmas, it "woke up" and demanded its place in the Flickr limelight, because even though it doesn't look particularly Christmassy (it had been pretty mild on that day, something like 12 °C), it is a Christmas image, because I've captured it on Christmas Eve 2016 from aboard a small cruising ship on our way to Vienna. There even is some cloud pareidolia to be found here, I see a weird duck and a (very human-like) eye looking upwards ;)

In post I've jazzed up the (very pastel) colours a little and did some subtle denoising, that's all. I don't know whether I will also take a special Christmas image this year, probably not. So I wish you all Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas already now. I wish you relaxed, happy days, stay safe and healthy, and take care! I'll be back for Macro Mondays' "Redux" in a week :)

Song: "Violin" by Kate Bush, Album: "Never For Ever", 1980, YouTube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8y5GthjgSU

A very old song, it's not even a favourite (Kate Bush) song of mine, but it was on my mind all of a sudden when I tried to chose a song to use for the theme. Haven't listened to either "Violin" or the album in many years [It sounds a little dated now, especially the guitars ;-)] nor have I played my violin in a while, but should take it up again. If I did, it would sound a lot like the song's intro at first ;-).

I shot my violin with aluminium foil as background [it works :-)!]. I like the idea that, instead of the bow, this ice skating couple dances across the strings and creates the sound.

Didn't do much editing here except to brighten it a little and accentuate the structures in Nik's Viveza and add a canvas texture in ON1.

A Happy Macro Monday everyone!

Every sleepy light

Must say goodbye

To day before it dies

In a sea of honey

A sky of honey

Keep us close to your heart

So if the skies turn dark

We may live on in

Comets and stars

The Real Lyrics (in my head only) to Kate Bush’s "Running Up That Hill"

It didn’t hurt me.

But you want to feel how it feels.

You want to know? Know that it didn’t hurt me.

Do you want to hear another deal we’re making?

You who…you need...

If I only could, I’d make a deal with God

and I’d get him to swallow places

I’d be running up that road. I’d be running up that hill

I’d be running up that building

If I only could.

You don’t want to hurt me

See all the teeth of wooden lies

Unaware I’m tearing you asunder

There is thunder in our hearts

Is there so much heat for the ones we love?

Tell me we won’t methadone

It’s you and me we won’t be unhappy

If I only could, I’d make a deal with God

and I’d get him to swallow places

I’d be running up that road. I’d be running up that hill

I’d be running up that building

If I only could.

You who….you need

You won’t be unhappy

Come on baby. Come on darling

Let me steal this moment from you now

Come on angel. Come on come on darling

Let’s exchange the experience.

If I only could, I’d make a deal with God

and I’d get him to swallow places

I’d be running up that road. I’d be running up that hill

with no problem

***************

"Running Up That Hill" is a song by English singer and songwriter Kate Bush from her fifth studio album, Hounds of Love (1985). Written and produced by Bush, the song was released in the United Kingdom as the lead single from Hounds of Love on 5 August 1985.

Bush performed the song live for the first time in 1987 at The Secret Policeman's Third Ball event accompanied by Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour. This was the only time the song was performed live until 2014 Before the Dawn series of concerts. All other appearances from 1985 were promotional lip sync performances on television, which were common at the time.

In 2022, "Running Up That Hill" received renewed attention when it was prominently featured in the fourth season of the Netflix series Stranger Things. Its appearance led to the song's resurgence on charts around the world, reaching the top five on the Billboard Hot 100 and topping the charts in eight countries, including the United Kingdom for three consecutive weeks and Ireland for five weeks.

In 2021, the song was listed at number 60 in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

You see, there's nothing here, I've found.

I feel so sorry for you, believing because they control.

And of all the guardian angels, they chose me to save your soul!

Oh, I'm just trying to explain, I'm a disbelieving angel.

"Old but gold", one could say of this archive image with the classic view of Berlin's Olympiastadion (Olympic stadium). The sky certainly was golden because on that day back in September 2020 we had an amazing sunset (and an almost empty stadium since those were the pandemic days). In this view, you can't see much of the Olympiastadion's modern roof so this is probably almost exactly the view the visitors of the Olympic games of 1936 might have had back in those dark days.

Looking closely, you can see a dude, two ladies, and a person on a motorbike on the right. They were practicing some bike stunts. The forecourt of the Olympic Stadium seems to be a popular spot for drivers, bikers, and such to enhance their driving skills – as long as there are no events at the stadium.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend, dear Flickr friends! HSS!

Who knows who wrote that song of Summer

That blackbirds sing at dusk

This is a song of colour

Where sands sing in crimson, red and rust

Then climb into bed and turn to dust

Every sleepy light

Must say goodbye

To the day before it dies

Kate Bush • Aerial

in the ice, splitting, splitting sound

silver heels spitting, spitting snow

And if I only could

I'd make a deal with god

And I'd get him to swap our places

It's wonderful

Everywhere, so white

The river has frozen over

Not a soul on the ice

Only me skating fast

I'm speeding past trees

Leaving little lines in the ice

~~~ Kate Bush
Who else remembers the weird but wonderfulness of Kate Bush? I loved "Wuthering Heights" but "Under Ice" was good too. I was reminded of it as I walked along the river a couple of weeks ago and got this glimpse of the ice.
The Tempodrom is a concert hall and event location founded in 1980 on the West-Berlin side of Potsdamer Platz. The original Tempodrom was a large circus tent and housed shows and concerts rooted in the alternative culture West-Berlin was so well known for during the late 1960s, 80s, and early 90s. It was relocated several times, the last move to its now permanent location on the site of former Anhalter Bahnhof became necessary when the German Chancellery was built nearby the Reichstag building, and then Chancellor Helmut Kohl expressed safety concerns about an event location so close by. The "New Tempodrom" was designed by renowned architectural firm Gerkan, Marg and Partners. The design of the building's white roof recalls the original venue, and is shaped like a large circus tent. The shape of the roof's top is also reminiscent of the Cathedral of Brasília (built by Oscar Niemeyer), and looks a little like a crown. The futuristic appearance of the New Tempodrom is quite a contrast to the ruins of old Anhalter Bahnhof on whose site it is located since its re-opening in 2001. Anhalter Bahnhof was one of Berlin's most important railway stations, known as "Gateway to the South", but was badly damaged during World War II. Today only the centre portion of its facade still exitsts. The other remains of Anhalter Bahnhof were demolished in 1960.
Eine weiteres Foto vom schönen Fotowalk mit Sabine.R, marionrosengarten, --Conrad-N-- and H. Roebke. Hier seht Ihr das Dach des Tempodroms in Berlin-Kreuzberg. Das Tempodrom wurde 1980 in einem großen Zirkuszelt auf der West-Berliner Seite des Potsdamer Platzes von Irene Moessinger gegründet, die sich damit einen Lebenstraum erfüllte. Viele Jahre lang war es Spielstätte für die alternative Szene; es wechselte auch mehrfach seinen Standort, zuletzt Ende der 90er-Jahre, als es dem Neubau des Kanzleramts weichen musste, weil der damalige Kanzler Helmut Kohl Sicherheitsbedenken bzgl. eines Veranstaltungsortes in unmittelbarer Nähe zu seiner "Waschmaschine" hatte. Mit dem Gelände des ehemaligen Anhalter Bahnhofs (von dem ja nur das Eingangsportal nach Weltkriegs-Zerstörung und endgültigem Abriss im Jahr 1960 übrig geblieben ist) wurde ein permanenter Standort ganz in der Nähe des Gründungsortes gefunden. Das Architekturbüro Gerkan, Marg und Partner, das für die Neugestaltung des nunmehr festen Gebäudes verantwortlich zeichnete, griff mit der Dachgestaltung auch die Zirkusidee des originalen Tempodroms wieder auf, ließ sich aber auch von Oscar Niemeyers Kathedrale von Brasília inspirieren.
Ich wünsche Euch ein schönes Wochenende, liebe Flickr-Freunde. Immer schön cool bleiben bei diesen Temperaturen!
Bon Nadal! * ¡Feliz Navidad! * Merry Christmas!
If I only had wings
Then I would fly to you
Through all the snowy weather
We'd be together
No one makes me feel the way you do.
You know that I'll be waiting
To hear your footsteps saying
That you'll be coming home for Christmas
"....the sun shines for you he said the day we were lying among the rhododendrons on Howth Head in the grey tweed suit the day I got him to propose to me yes first I gave him the bit of seedcake out of my mouth and it was a leapyear like now 16 years ago my God after that long kiss I near lost my breath yes he said I was a flower of the mountain yes so we are all flowers all a womans body yes that was one true thing he said in his life and the sun shines for you today yes..."
It doesn't hurt me.
You wanna feel how it feels?
You wanna know, know that it doesn't hurt me?
You wanna hear about the deal I'm making?
You be running up that hill
You and me be running up that hill
And if I only could,
And get him to swap our places,
Be running up that road,
Be running up that hill,
Be running up that building.
If I only could, oh...
You don't wanna hurt me,
But see how deep the bullet lies.
Unaware that I'm tearing you asunder.
There's a thunder in our hearts, baby.
So much hate for the ones we love?
Tell me, we both matter, don't we?
You, be running up that hill
You and me, be running up that hill
You and me won't be unhappy.
And if I only could,
Make a deal with God,
And get him to swap our places,
A small encore for the Bard and the Thespian if you please and poor Yorick would like to take a bow, if only his knees were anywhere to be found and last but not least a raspberry ripple ice-cream cornet in the interval … perfect ; 0)))
(to be delivered in an Old English thespian long drawn-out drawl with a great deal of theatrical gesticulation and raised eyebrows!! …
The moral of this story : Never take oneself too seriously!!! ; 0))
Oh, the weariness seeps through me
like an old Shakespearean tragedy
and the darkness waits for me,
like Heathcliff on the Moors
I am melodramatic,
but what can one expect
when one is born
in a field on all fours.
My back story completes me;
defeats me and leaves me
completely exhausted, “I SAY!!!”
From farmyard to theatre
to Bohemian Latin Quarter
to Venice, The Lido
to London and back
to the country, then seaside
my life is alas and alack ...
Never a dull moment
that passes before me
when I don't discover the spotlight.
I have only to switch on
the lamp set beside me
and watch the large mirror
reflect on my plight.
I read the reviews -
What's this? ; I'm yesterday's news!
I am wrapping for cod fish and chips!
I am sprinkled with vinegar,
salt and Tom Ketchup,
then screwed up and thrown on the tip!!
What! No curtain call, encore or Bravo; three cheers,
for she's a jolly good “fellow”.
Alas, poor Yorick I knew him well,
well, at least I did when I was playing Othello.
What's that you are shouting?
I know! I'm not deaf,
well, actually I'm half-deaf; who's counting.
I know it was Hamlet, but he didn't fit the bill.
I needed a rhyme for “good fellow”
Now Yorick is laughing sat up on his shelf
and I'm surprisingly mellow
as I laugh at myself, so please join in.
There's many a truth spoken in jest
and there's a lot of true stories in me forsooth,
for my friends I reserve only the best… ; 0)
