Jumping Spider

This wee one seemed to be judging the distance for its next jump in pursuit of a meal. It jumped a millisecond later.

I'll be the judge of that...

Blooming cherry by the Inui street (乾通り) in Imperial Palace. The flowers with large bright petals are slightly different from those of Somei-yoshino. It is supposed to be a Jindai-akebono cultivar (Cerasus spachiana ‘Jindai-akebono’) judging from the plate attached to another tree on the same street.

This area is supposed to be a backyard of Meiji Palace (明治宮殿), a wooden architecture constructed in 1888 on the former site of Nishinomaru Palace of the Tokugawa shogunate burned down in 1873.

Meiji Palace was burned down by an air raid in 1945 but some remnants remain along the Inui street.

On a recent photo walk with a photo buddy around York (the Ye Olde original and not the ‘New’ fangled version across the pond), we explored some of the Snickleways; alleyways to you and me. There are tons of these around the city, which can offer some interesting photo opportunities.

This particular one opens up onto Judges Court, which from 1720 until the early 1800’s served as lodgings for judges presiding over the Assize Courts in the city, and which is now a hotel.

They don't have the friendliest looking faces!

The Royal Ontario Museum exhibit description reads as follows:

Glazed earthenware

These three Hell's Judges, with highly expressive faces and delicately modelled hands, were originally part of a group of ten. The middle judge holds a ceremonial tablet, while the other two once clasped similar

A reposted image from earlier times as 4472 climbs the last few hundred yards to the famous summit in clear early evening light, judging by the shadows, and I cannot remember why, the train was obviously running considerably late at this time, although luckily for those waiting, the side lighting got even better.

On the right of the picture Hangmans Bridge can clearly be seen, although no one seems to know why it had such a macabre nickname.

There were a number of Noisy Pittas in the Brisbane Botanic Gardens. However they were difficult to photograph, as they stayed in the shady undergrowth, especially when a human was trying to photograph them! It was also getting close to sunset. Eventually I got a couple of half-decent shots at ISO 6400.

The subject was not impressed with my behaviour.

A Normal Man Sitting Normally

I say normal but he was quite dapper and I can't be sure he was not Bicycle Repairman. You never can judge just by appearances.

The bench was anything but normal. Portland or Oolitic Limestone would be my guess.

The Judges Chair, once again I'm almost embarrassed to say that I never knew where this was until today and yet I have been sat in the Car with it right behind me on more than one occasion...DOH!

So this days little jaunt was to Laughter Tor and to find/take in the Chair along the way, the Chair or Pounds-keepers shelter is concealed behind and within the wall of Dunnabridge Pound which is listed as a Medieval Stock Enclosure used to hold Animals that were Illegally pastured within the Forest of Dartmoor, these Animals would be gathered at the annual Drift (round up) and held here, if not claimed they would be sold shortly after at the Princetown Fair or taken to Lydford.

Two route branded buses arrive on North Bridge with Volvo B7TL, Wrightbus Eclipse Gemini number 823 (SN56 AHJ) working Service 37 at the front of the queue and Volvo B7RLE, Wright Urban Eclipse number 149 (SK07 CGF) at the rear.

Buggies and wheelchairs are all welcome on Lothian Buses and many new and newly refurbished buses have room for both, if the buggy is folded up when inside the vehicle. The subject of buggies is a hot topic these days and I spotted this comment from a user which I thought was rather good:

"I do wonder how on earth bus drivers are meant to be able to look at a buggy and judge whether it's foldable or not".

Well said I'd add and surely it's best if we all just try and help each other in each situation we find

ourselves in.

This mum looks quite happy enough and Eclipse 149 (SK07 CGF) has plenty of room for buggies and wheel chairs. It's all much easier these days without step entrance vehicles for all sorts of people and all of Lothian's buses have low-floor entry and a ramp which can be opened outwards for the disabled.

Got stuck very close with a long lens. Wish I could fit more of him in the pic, but I still like this one.
