a lot of javascript you're about to see may offend you. but when you wanna make a tiny omelette, you have to break some tiny eggs. so we'll be using some patterns that you should never use in your production code. that said, there are also many patterns that you may want to use when the situation dictates.
so what can we build? well, let's take a tour of the functionality common in web apps.

@kuvos, the tiger woods of javascript code golf, saw this and created JS1K, ratcheting the size limit down an order of magnitude to 1,024 bytes. all you need to do is look at the entries to see the massive creativity that this spawned; some of the most impressive javascript i've seen is in the source of the fully-working chess, poker, and side-scrolling games that placed very well in the contest.

Each layer is driven by a javascript program, sent from student's computers. Each program is evaluated real-time so that direct modification of the code can be seen real-time on the server screen, using Vision Factory.
