I finally was able to capture Jason yawning. It's a little dark but if you enlarge it, it looks good.

Jason asked me to go downtown with him after work to take some photos in a bar for his project at work. I took the camera to work with me and turned the outing into an all day photowalk.

I had left my laptop case in Jason's office while we went walking and need to go back to get it. I rather liked the weird faded fluorescent lights in the elevator as well as the reflections off the back/side walls.

Taken at the boxing gym in Trafford, Manchester, England. Jason fights as an amateur in the 81kg weight class and is Yorkshire champion.

My photo walks have been quite limited this winter, but today I saw this man at a nearby food court table in the local mall. His face, bandana, and unique hat made me think he would be an interesting portrait subject.

I approached him and introduced myself and my Human Family project, explaining that I would like to do a portrait for my project. He was hesitant which made me think he was coming up with an excuse to decline. To my pleasant surprise, he finally said "I guess I could do that." Meet Jason.

Jason was waiting for me to take the lead so I suggested a spot a few steps away that would allow us to remain close to our beverages. He raised his kerchief and suggested covering his face below his eyes. When I said if he was ok with the kerchief down like it was when we met, it would make a better portrait. I thought his beard would balance out his hat. He was fine with that and lowered it. He confused me a bit by suggesting a location that had uneven light but he went along with my request and I took a couple of photos in that location, followed by a couple in a location of his choosing.

As we took the photos, he was teased by a couple of friends, one of whom mischievously bumped my elbow to spoil a shot. It was clear that the food court is his hangout and, in fact, he had a Ziploc of personal belongings on his table.

It was a friendly interaction, if a bit awkward. My efforts to draw him out a bit yielded vague responses. When I asked about interests, his response confused me. When I asked what advice he would give his younger self, he said "there are two selves: my past and my present." When I asked his age he said "1977" so I take it he is 48. He made a vague reference to the military and when I asked if he had been in the mitary (Kingston is a military town) he replied "maybe and maybe not."

I showed him the photos and he was surprised they were so good. "Your camera likes me. Actually, I like me - today. When I don't like me, neither would your camera.

His message to the world: "Slow down. Everyone is in too much of a rush." I agreed.

In parting, his handshake was very warm and firm and he wished me well. I said I was glad we met. He said "Me too."

When we approach strangers, we can never predict the outcome. We parted with a friendly wave and with me wondering what his world is like.

Thank you, Jason, for participating in my photo project. You are my 931st submission to The Human Family Group.

"Jason. I had a feeling it was you... How are you alive?" Batman asks. "Wait a minute.... That face... Are you Robin!?" Joker asks. "Indeed I am. I crawled away with my last bit of life... I found Talia Al Ghul. She took me to the lazarus pits... I was healed... But I have a question for you, Bats... Why isn't this freak dead?!" Jason yells, whilst pointing his gun at the Jokers head. "Hey hey hey!!! You don't have to get so hasty!!!" Joker quips. "Easy, Jason! We don't have to fight!" Batman states. "Ughh... Look. I placed a bomb in this building. You will only have the strength to save one of us, because of your broken back. Me, or Joker..! Its him or me, Batman! Who do you choose?!" Jason yells. "Jason!!! Disarm the bomb! Now!!!" Batman replies. "Oh, this is fun!!" Joker continues. "5. 4! 3... 2!!! 1!!!!" Jason shouts...

Mi asesino favorito, es el asesino favorito de todos!

Jason Burns is a local singer/songwriter with the kindest heart of anyone you could hope to meet. He was singing and playing the guitar throughout the shot and his voice has an amazing ability to send a shiver up your spine. Although this shot wasn't strictly according to brief, I had had it in mind for a while and Jason was more than happy to oblige during a quick break in setup.

Seems I've been away a while. Kinda miss this place. Here's a drawing I've just finished up. It'll most likely become a small painting. That pencil there, I love it!! It's feels amazing!! A whole mess of them (like a lifetime supply) magically appeared in my box of art supplies a few weeks back. I didn't order them, but they were just stacked from top to bottom filling up all the gaps and holes. I figured they ran out of bubble wrap and decided to use boxes of pencils as cushioning. Either that or god is telling me he wants me to draw a lot more often. I'm convinced it's the latter. Thanks for the free pencils god!
