A group of bottles and jars reflected on the side of the orb. So I am getting the photo from the side of the orb this is why it has the fisheye effect on the bottles, also some of the grit that settled on the orb walls showed up and he scratch on the orb over the red bottle.

I put a mini LED light in a bottle, set the aperture to 25 and of course have to get out the tripod (5 sec shutter) to make lightning in a bottle. Don't ask why I set this up on a jar of marbles, maybe just to prove I do still have my marbles and it was a stroke of an idea, you know the light bulb moment.
The infamous Jar trail is a very steep, strenuous trail which is located at the mouth of Kern Canyon and is used by workout freaks and local mountaineers as a training hike. The hike is about six miles, maybe a bit more, with a possible elevation gain of around 3,000 feet in three miles depending if we go up to one of the several nearby peaks in the are.The views from the upper ridges of Kern Canyon and the Kern River below are some of the best in the area.

Het nieuwe jaar begon niet alleen met zeer matige weersomstandigheden maar ook met een persoonlijke tegenslag die uiteindelijk ruim een maand de tijd vroeg om weer wat richting een positief vooruitzicht om te buigen. Dit maakt dan vanzelfsprekend dat ook een hobby even naar de achtergrond verdwijnt al was ik me er al wel een aantal weken bewust van dat er op zondagen iets in de regio reed wat mijn aandacht toch maar eens moest gaan krijgen. Waar Crossrail namelijk hoofdzakelijk de door België Montzenroute verkiest voor de meerderheid van hun containertreinen lijkt de zondagse slag van de Mortara-shuttle steeds door Nederland geleid te worden en daarbij steeds te rijden met een Class 66. Met het nu opdoen van enige kennis vooraf kon ik nét genoeg ruimte in mijn agenda plannen om in goed gezelschap de daad bij het woord te voegen.
De Mortara-shuttle bleek al snel de enige interessante trein te zijn aangezien onderweg overal meldingen opdoken van de door Nederland kruisende trein. Het werd daarmee eenvoudig in te schatten wanneer het tot een treffen zou komen en werd gekozen voor nagenoeg de grens tussen Nederland en België. Hier aangekomen ontdekte ik een recent geplaatst paaltje wat toch wel genoemd hinderlijk in beeld geplaatst is. Om echter met de zonstanden en de beschikbare tijd geen risico te nemen werd dit voor lief genomen en bleek de trein bovendien de oostelijke gemeentegrens van Roosendaal al bereikt te hebben. Zoals verwacht enkele minuutjes voorafgaand aan het vertrek van de S32 naar Puurs toonde het Belgische inrijsein veilig wat als duidelijke aanwijzing genomen kon worden dat ons doel in aantocht was. Enkele minuutjes later gevolgd door het sluiten van de overweg en het passeren van de Crossrail DE 6312 als aanvoerder van de volbeladen Mortara-shuttle die als trein 40110 enige tientallen meters verderop het Belgische grondgebied binnen zou rijden. De uiteindelijke bestemming van deze trein betreft de Interface terminal gelegen aan het Kluizendok in Gent.

The Roskilde Jars.
Roskilde's three giant jars by the artist Peter Brandes are 5 metres high and weigh about 24 tons altogether.
They were given to Roskilde by the company Stryhn's Leverpostej A/S to commemorate Roskilde's 1000-years anniversary in 1998.
According to the artist they symbolise life and death, as jars are used for storage of food and as urns.
The name of all employees of the company and of those taking part in the production are inscribed on the jars. The first jar - seen from the station - has been adorned with a poem by Henrik Nordbrandt about Roskilde and Queen Margrethe I.

Year of construction 1998
Nový Bydžov - Eind februari werd een klein tripje naar Tsjechië gemaakt om weeral wat waardebonnen op te maken. Omdat ik in eerste instantie alleen zou gaan om wat plaatjes te maken in de omgeving van Plzeň had ik een huurauto geregeld. Pas later kwam het idee om m'n vader uit te nodigen en er een tripje met z'n tweeën van te maken. Zodoende werden de plannen aangepast en kwam daar een bijzondere citytrip uit. Vanuit Nederland werd met IC Berlijn naar Rheine gespoord. Aldaar werd overgestapt op de IC naar Köln Hbf. Na een overnachting in Keulen werd de volgende ochtend vroeg op het vliegtuig gestapt, om rond het middaguur in Wenen aan te komen. Een kleine lunchpauze alhier was voldoende om door te reizen naar de eindbestemming Praag. Vanuit Wien Hbf werd dan ook de RailJet die beide hoofdsteden verbindt genomen. De totale reisduur vanuit Amersfoort Centraal naar Praha hlavní nádraží betrof zo'n 30 uur.
In Praag werden de diverse bekende plekken bezocht en verschillende biertjes met smaak gedronken. De zaterdag werd besteed aan het rondlopen door de stad met 's middags een toer met de auto doorheen het platteland van Tsjechië. Omdat het tripje verder niet gepland was, trok ik naar de omgeving waar ik 2 jaar eerder al was geweest voor wat plaatjes. De rit er naartoe betrof een leuke eerste kennismaking met het Oostblok-verkeer. Men gaat toch wat grover om met verkeersregels dan wij in Nederland was de conclusie. Enfin, een poging een Tsjechische broodtrommel te treffen faalde, maar het materieel dat evenwel Os 5716 verzorgde was minstens even boeiend!
Zoals reeds gesteld was ik als eerder aan de spoorlijnen rondom Chlumec nad Cidlinou geweest. Op de lijn naar Městec Králové trof ik toen een Broodtrommel in oude ČD-kleuren. Deze keer trof ik dezelfde kleuren, maar dan in de vorm van een motorwagen uit de serie 843. We zien het het losse ding halteren aan het station van Nový Bydžov, op weg als Os 5716 naar Městec Králové. De stationschef geeft snel het vertrekbevel, de trein loopt enkele minuten achter op schema.
