Great Egret (Ardea alba) / Garça-branca-grande

Found abandoned by a young neighbor 3 days ago. The girl's parents would not allow the dogs to stay in their home for more than a few hours, so, along with another neighbor we took them to my vet for check-up and vaccinations. They are being dewormed, are mange free, and have been treated for a huge flea infestation. We were able to get a rescue group (K-9 Angels) to sponsor them. They will be available for adoption once they have had their second round of vaccinations, in the meantime my neighor who shared the cost of vetting with me is fostering them.

With nothing to do I took photo of this nut carving I did in 1996, I would carry this in my pocket and when I felt like it I did some whittling, all done with small tools and some dental burrs, yes I use a dental drill with that horrible sound we all know:-)

Tagua nut is a palm tree fruit that is gown for its oil, if its left to dry the nut become very hard and look like Ivory,

thus the name "Vegetable ivory"

*Each fruit has about 8 of those nuts, each nut is bout 2".

I first saw this flower several years ago and saw its potential for photography. I tried then, and then a number of times over several years. It grows very close to the ground and its flowers tend to hang downward making it difficult to get a decent photo. Today there was a full bloom of flowers and I decided to get down on the ground and try again with my new lens.

Badly weathered and uneven piano ivory keys, with peeling paint on the rest of the piano. Found on Hindley Street, outside the Peter Rabbit Cafe.

If these keys could talk....

How many notes, how many songs, how many concerts have come from these old ivory keys on this Steinway & Sons piano in the music hall at the University at Buffalo campus.

I am not great on Fungi so this may be wrongly named but I am hoping my great Flickr friend Joan will correct me. Thanks in advance Joan.

"How right it is to love flowers ... they have been with us from the very beginning" ― Vincent van Gogh

My theme for today is the Ivory Curl tree (Buckinghamia celsissima). Originally a tree native to the rain forests of eastern Australia, these fabulous trees have found a home in the gardens and streets of south-east Australia. I took this shot of these trees today in a neighbour's front garden.

I'm sure there's some kind of symbolism there, but eh. At last light, BNSF 3167 rests in Western Avenue Yard along the "Racetrack", backdropped by the modern towers of Chicago's South Loop.
