Seasons 2019, My Diary group
A classic from the archives, Castel del Monte.
Built by Frederick II in early 1200s, only castle of octagonal design. A architectural Fusion that blends Northern European, Islamic, and classical antiquity styles that features an octagonal plan with octagonal towers at each corner, reflecting a fusion of classical, Islamic, and Gothic elements, and is considered a masterpiece of medieval military architecturem
As for its purposes it's still unknown for lacking a moat or drawbridge its defenses minimal. Some say it was his hunting lodge or just a getaway. But still a sight to behold.
Last lunch in Florence.
*Spritz.
*Etruschetto Chianti DOCG.
*Gnocchi alla sorrentina (potato dumplings with tomato sauce and mozzarella).
*Tiramisu.

Simplicity! The beauty of Italian cuisine is that an Italian dish is simple even the table lay out. Fresh stove oven pizza, lasagna, pasta and the lamb were excellent at Alberto's, Novotel Hotel.

Yesterday was one of those days that called for a night out and we both opted for a casual Italian dinner at one of our local favorites, Villa Buena in Burke, Virginia. Great wine and fantastic pizza.....so good I went back today to get this shot.
And the take home leftovers are long gone : ))

Italian restaurant on a very wet night in Bruntsfield. Not really an evening to dawdle on the walk home from work, but the rain and darkness made the lights stand out more and I liked the wet pavements in B&W, so I whipped out the camera for a couple of very quick handheld night shots on the way home
