–noun
a religion, originated in India by Buddha (Gautama) and later spreading to China, Burma, Japan, Tibet, and parts of southeast Asia, holding that life is full of suffering caused by desire and that the way to end this suffering is through enlightenment that enables one to halt the endless sequence of births and deaths to which one is otherwise subject.
Ok, so i'm not Buddhist by any stretch, but i have found that meditation is extremely helpful for me. As someone who often has way too many things on my to-do list, and hold myself to high standards, i don't always give myself enough outlets.
This past fall, even though i was working out (even if i had to do it at 10pm, ugh) i found myself with very high blood pressure and the inability to sleep. i was getting less than 4 hours and THAT was stressing me out even more. A wonderful friend and an even wonderfuller trainer suggested making 10 minutes for myself to meditate in the mornings, and within a couple of weeks, i found i was much more focused, effective, and more able to relax. Here are three books i used to help get me started on meditation and mindfulness.
*Artist's notes: i generally DO sit on this cushion and in this spot, i generally do not put my hands in the "Namaste" position when mediating*
