Thousands of UK-based Kurds and their supporters marched through Central London to demand that the Turkish government ceases its brutal military attacks on Kurdish people in Northern Kurdistan, Syria and Iraq. Washington DC, The White House, January 10, 2016. Around 100 Kurdish demonstrators and supporters gathered here to protest the Turkish government's bombing and other military actions against civilians in southern Turkey, Iraq and Syria. Kurdish separatist groups such as the PKK have been in armed conflict with Turkey for over three decades, resulting in over 40,000 mainly Kurdish deaths, among them many civilians. A two year cease fire ended in July and the carnage resumed. Kurdish activists also accuse the Erdogan government of Turkey of being more interested in suppressing Kurdish rights than in defeating the threat of ISIS. Over the past couple of years Kurdish forces have lead the way in rolling back the territorial gains of the Islamic State. To Turkey's credit it should be noted that they've taken in over 2 million refugees from the civil/proxy war in Syria, more than any other country in the region.
