The Damrak houses first introduced me to the Dutch word gezellig (meaning cozy or homely) I was always wandering in from the train station after dark and I would constantly stop and stare at these houses thinking it felt like an incandescent oasis in a city of fluorescents, warming the night and the Damrak with its soft glow.
When you walk by during the day usually things are shut tight against the throngs of tourists walking back and forth from the central station but at night when the crowds have dissipated the curtains open and the world seems to be welcome to become a witness to the nocturnal activities of the residents.
The Damrak historically was originally part of the Amstel river below the Dam that gave Amsterdam its name, Rak means a straight stretch or place to gain speed, so the Damrak was actually the straight piece of river below the Dam across the Amstel where sailors would pick up some speed on their home stretch to the port of Amsterdam.

This sweet girl is one of six baby red squirrels frolicking all over the front yard for the past few weeks. There will be more but this group is the first. Three out of the six have distinct white streaks and this girl is pure blonde with just hints of red. I have never seen one like her before in my life. I am wondering if the light grey male squirrel that has settled here since winter is the dad. I've been spending time with them all and they have become quite friendly. We shall see who stays and who goes once they get older.
Our new family member. She is very, very young and lost her mom and siblings in a tragic manner. She was being raised by a Chihuahua.
I named her Akasha as she is as fast as ether and knowledgeable as the sky.

Meet my stalker, Spike the Wood Pigeon. Unable to find a mate and rejected by his parents, Spike has taken a liking to me. He comes and sit next to me when I'm taking photo's in the garden. He waits at my backdoor each morning until I feed him, he won't let me stroke him but I have to be careful when I'm walking because he gets under my feet. I have to sit with him when he feeds, if I leave him he flies off leaving his food and won't come back until I return. He has a distinctive white spike on his white on his left side, hence the name.
The last time I posted a picture of this building (Reach for the Sky - taken with my phone about a year ago) it was criticised for showing too much sky.
This time there is less sky but I thought I would introduce a sun flare instead. ;-)

Just as a new day begins to break. My living room windows introduce me to another day full of promise. Another year just began with opportunities, insights and challenges. These will be met with my faith. I am not alone as I see a changing world begin to unfold. As “The Sun Rises” I’m grateful to be able to witness such beauty here daily. Beauty surrounds us all but we have to remove life’s blinders and begin to look again with more than our eyes. Thanks for viewing my photos. Gratitude and Kindness will encourage us to continue to live and love.
Sadly our sweet Paddy has passed away at 14 years old <3
We miss him greatly... until we meet again. <3
Our little Peppa now has a new sister Rosey to play with :)
Couple weeks ago we had to send off to doggie heaven our 13 year old schnauzer that had a stroke.
After a long search, Moose has joined the Krach household to bring some new joy ... and to keep our 10 year old schnoodle busy. Moose is a puppy schnauzer with lots of spunk ... and kisses too.
Captured here when we took Moose down to visit with my Dad on this lovely Autumn day in Maryland where Moose got to play with our dog, and my sister's dogs as well. While being tiny ... he played very well with them. Wore them all out quickly actually.
He seems to not be camera shy as well ... which is nice for me ;)

The green monkey can be found in a wide range of wooded habitats, ranging from very dry Sahel woodland to the edge of rainforests. It is also commonly seen in coastal regions, where known to feed on seashore foods such as crabs. It also takes a wide variety of other foods, including fruits and invertebrates.
The green monkey is found in West Africa from Senegal and The Gambia to the Volta River. It has been introduced to the Cape Verde islands off north-western Africa (islands of Santiago and Brava only) as early as the second half of the 16th century, and the West Indian islands of Saint Kitts, Nevis, Saint Martin, and Barbados, having been introduced in the late 17th century by slave ships coming from West Africa. A small colony descended from 20th century zoo escapees exists in Broward County, Florida.
As other members of the genus Chlorocebus, the green monkey is highly social and usually seen in groups. They usually live in groups of 7 up to 80 individuals. Within these groups, there is distinct social hierarchy evidenced by grooming behaviors and gender relationships. (Wikipedia)

There is a large colony of these attractive monkeys living around the Barbados Wildlife Refuge. Although wild, they are fed by the Refuge once a day. I think that this is the dominant male, as he kept an eye on the proceedings while sitting on a high spot in the area.

Our new puppy -an apricot standard poodle boy!
How hard is it do you think to get four people to agree on a name? The front runner at the moment is Harpo. He will have the same golden curls as the famous Harpo Marx.
George the cocky was quite interested in the pup and behaved reasonably well but as soon as the pup starts crying, George, not be outdone, does his monkey impersonation much louder, drowning out the howls of the pup. Then George throws in a bark or two. It’s all “look at me, Look at me.” Alfie the budgie looks on and wonders what all the fuss is about.
We have an interesting time ahead to try to socialise the puppy in the crucial next few weeks when it is the very thing we are unable to do. We have bought an App that plays all sorts of noises to expose him too and we have been encouraged to dressup and wigs, glasses and hats so he is exposed to different looks. We will take him in the car to look out the window and do what we can to help him understand the world is more than just our home and the four people in it.

I encountered this Cheetah family on the Mopani road not far from the Phalaborwa gate. I spent at least 20 minutes alone with them before the next homo sapiens arrived and had enough time to bond with the kids. The mother was a bit uninvolved and constantly looked the other way. She is the one in the background. I was selfish and parked my vehicle far away from the Cheetahs in such a way so that nobody could pass me and approach the animals to take photos with a mobile phone or the like and in the process chase them away. I really had a royal time. Haven't seen Cheetahs in three years.

These are what appears to be two siblings huddling together. Such gorgeous looking little characters. Little Owls were introduced to New Zealand from Germany between 1906 and 1910, with the intention that they would help control the numbers of small introduced birds, which were becoming a pest in grain and fruit crops. With the exception of one pair released in Rotorua, all were liberated in the South Island. Little owls bob up and down if startled and have an undulating flight pattern.
Today it is three years ago that we lost sweet cat Lolita, and about 9 months ago that Grandma Leyla passed away. Last Weekend we decided that we don't want to be without cats any more.
So I may introduce you one of our new feline friends: This is Kuddel alias Hercules, and he moved to our home last sunday with his girlfriend Florentina to help us to overcome our grieving about my sweet little Tigerlily-Gang. No picture of Florentina, she is still too shy at the moment to be photographed. But this Prince Charming breaks every heart in minutes, and he'll help her to trust us too! The photo is not made by myself, the large cameras may be a bit too much for the first days. So Tom took it with his smartphone and gave it to me to upload it here.
Please respect Toms copyright. No use of the photo without his expressly permission.
And: I don't like Comment-Codes, "awards", or such groups. They will be deleted. Explanation at my profile. Also please don't post pictures in the commenting-area. You could post them much better in your own photo stream. Your own words will mean much more to me than a universal-text. ;-D
Back in time again to.... August 2015 when visiting the Isle of Man.
Pictured here is Tramcar No 21 - one of the 'Oldest Tram Cars in the World' built in 1899 and still regularly used on the Manx Electric Railway (MER) which was built between 1893 and 1899 and connects the Island's Capital Douglas with Laxey in the East and Ramsey in the North.
This early morning image was taken at Onchan near Douglas during an 'Inside Track' Private Photo Charter before the service trains began and en route initially to Laxey. We spent the day using this splendid vehicle travelling the whole rail system.
It's acknowledged the MER is the longest narrow gauge vintage electric railway system in the British Isles and still uses its original Victorian and Edwardian Rolling Stock.

Introducing another canine I met, Hiccup. She was at the Duncan Farmers Market with a lot of people around to meet and greet so wasn't into being still. As a result I was lucky to capture this portrait. She's such a friendly soul.
1959 Buick
In 1959, General Motors design staff had undertaken a major update of the Buick line, which most consumers really liked and admired. The 1959 Buicks were introduced to the public on September 16, 1958, and model year production was 285,089 units, or 5.1 percent of the total vehicle market.
Buick offered 17 models for 1959, including the LeSabre, the lowest priced series that replaced the Special series. The Century nameplate had disappeared again, and the Electra was part of the luxury series.
The 1959 lineup offered impeccable styling. I always thought the 1959 Buick models were great looking designs. The Electra 225 was a very popular model; its name came from the overall length of the car in inches. George H. Dammann, in his book “Seventy Years of Buick, said, “The new Buicks were completely new cars, resembling nothing that ever rolled out of Flint before, and having no common ties with other General Motors styles.”
Both power brakes and power steering were standard on the Electra Series, but cost a total of $150 extra on other Buick models. The 1959 Buicks also offered the popular panorama windshield and vent windows in the front doors. The four-door hardtop design models offered a one-piece rear door glass and a rear window design that wrapped around to meet the door glass. The tailfin design was very unique compared to other vehicles on the road during the 1950s.
The 1959 Buick convertible served as the pace car for the Indy 500 race. The Electra 225 convertible was priced at $4,192. The most popular 1959 Buick model was the Electra 225 series; GM offered a four-door hardtop which sold for $ 4,300 and had a total production run of 10,491 units. The LeSabre models were also very popular. Two Buick models were available as station wagons: the Invicta series priced at $3,841 or the LeSabre series at $3,320
The press reports on the 1959 Buicks were very favorable, and Motor Trend magazine named the 1959 Buick Invicta four-door hardtop the “best looking car overall,” a huge honor for GM.
In conclusion, the 1959 Buick models were quite different from the previous model year and offered the most revolutionary changes in GM’s lineup for the 1959 model year. Some of the traditional model names like Special and Roadmaster were gone, but Buick’s great styling will always be a part of GM’s legacy for many generations to come.

Introducing Stella. Stella is a female juvenile regal jumping spider and she is gorgeous.
Stella was captive bred but the regal's natural territory is in the southeastern U.S, the Greater Antilles, and the Bahamas. They are most common in peninsular Florida.
Mute Swan on Wildwing Lake.
58 to 60 inches in length with a wingspan of just under 8 feet. The adults are all white with an orange bill with a black knob at the base. The young birds are the same but dingy gray-brown becoming whiter with age. The Mute Swan holds its neck in a feaceful curve while native swans hold thei rnecks straight up.
They inhabit ponds, rivers, coastal lagoons and bays.
Not native to North America, they were introduced from Europe into the northeastern United States. Resident and most common in Southern New England, southeastern New York, New Jersey and Maryland. They are also locally established in Michigan.

After we had to let Zarah go, Fussel was very alone.
On June 8th Theo moved in with us.
So far there is still a lot of hissing and growling, but we are confident that both will get along soon.
Theo was placed with us via the local animal shelter. His family could not keep him, because the daughter of the house suffers badly from cat hair allergy.
I'm not too sure of this goat's real name and at first I was going to bin this image as the colour version taken in bright sun was not great. I liked the image because of the piece of grass in Baaabra's mouth so converted it to a high key black and white which I think worked OK.
