Introduced from Eurasia this a bird of the high plains of western North America, I didn't know what it was when it showed up in my yard six years ago. Read about a few reports of these birds around the province when I realized what it was, speculation was they may have been raised from eggs as game birds and escaped. It's the national bird of both Pakistan and Iraq.
Not mine, I'm afraid, but adorable just the same. Ziggy likes eating carrots, running around like an idiot and chewing furniture. HSS everybody!
Widespread and abundant in cities, neighborhoods and farms. Avoids dense woods. Flocks cluster in dense bushes, bustling around and chattering to one another. Males have smart black bibs, bright rufous napes, and stunningly patterned wings with brilliant buffs and browns. Underparts are pale pearly-gray. Females are plain brown with cute face and lighter eyebrow. Native to Eurasia; introduced to much of the rest of the world. (eBird)

The Damrak houses first introduced me to the Dutch word gezellig (meaning cozy or homely) I was always wandering in from the train station after dark and I would constantly stop and stare at these houses thinking it felt like an incandescent oasis in a city of fluorescents, warming the night and the Damrak with its soft glow.
When you walk by during the day usually things are shut tight against the throngs of tourists walking back and forth from the central station but at night when the crowds have dissipated the curtains open and the world seems to be welcome to become a witness to the nocturnal activities of the residents.
The Damrak historically was originally part of the Amstel river below the Dam that gave Amsterdam its name, Rak means a straight stretch or place to gain speed, so the Damrak was actually the straight piece of river below the Dam across the Amstel where sailors would pick up some speed on their home stretch to the port of Amsterdam.
I took this on Sept 10th, 2017 with my D750 and Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens at 44mm 25 sec f/11 ISO100 processed in LR, PS +Lumenzia, Topaz , Luminar and DXO

On our way through the woodlands before Sugar Loaf Hill, we found a great many sessile oaks with immense levels of character.
I enjoy trying to find balance within the frame, especially when the subject is not perfectly symmetrical. I probably took the shot a dozen times, trying to move the sun around the branches as it set behind the slope beyond. I used f11 on the XF 16 1.4 as it was the best compromise for front to back sharpness, and the resulting sunstar. Certain media has had an influence on both the composition and the colouring of this shot. I softened the highlights, introduced a golden tint to both shadows and highlights, and raised the blacks to soften the contrast a little. Using a gradient I decided to really push the exposure in the upper half of the image to maximise the fantasy inspiration (Elden Ring).

This sweet girl is one of six baby red squirrels frolicking all over the front yard for the past few weeks. There will be more but this group is the first. Three out of the six have distinct white streaks and this girl is pure blonde with just hints of red. I have never seen one like her before in my life. I am wondering if the light grey male squirrel that has settled here since winter is the dad. I've been spending time with them all and they have become quite friendly. We shall see who stays and who goes once they get older.
Our new family member. She is very, very young and lost her mom and siblings in a tragic manner. She was being raised by a Chihuahua.
I named her Akasha as she is as fast as ether and knowledgeable as the sky.

For those of you who missed my post a few weeks ago I sadly lost my pet beardy Roxy (only about 3 yrs old) and thought the only way to move on from losing such a gentle and beautiful little friend is to get another one so this one is a little different to Roxy.....an East Coast Leatherback Bearded Dragon ....only 4 weeks old and a tiny 3 inches long at the moment.

We know each other from such a long time, and some years later we got more stable, I'm so lucky to have him!
A lot of the things that make me who I am are because of how we've evolved as couple ♥.
I never do posts like these here, just silent random pics n selfies when I feel like it...but this is so important to me - and also it was like RIDICULOUS that in all this time we never did a 'proper', edited pic couple pic.
I hope we can find the time for more and this isn't just an exception, it's so cute to show a bit of how we are together!

Introducing the 3 Peregrine Falcon fledglings, a male and 2 females. (The females are larger.) They had been crying loudly for breakfast, and Mama has just brought in food. I thought this was really interesting where it appears the center bird, a likely female, is helping her little brother eat. If you've ever seen baby birds eat, it's every "man" for himself. I don't know - maybe she was trying to take it from him, or maybe her maternal instinct is already awake. She shared a leg with him later, or maybe she just didn't want it. It's a privilege for me, as well as fascinating, to be able to spend quality time like this with these young apex predators.
Introducing another of my wild friends, Pancake, the dunnock.
Pancake is one of an enthusiastic and animated troup of dunnocks among the larger flock of different species that hang around our garden. I can't tell the dunnocks apart, except for Charlie (uploaded previously: www.flickr.com/photos/pogspix/52476354419) and Pancake, who both take food from my hand.
Pancake is recognizabe because of her beautiful markings ... and her habit of being right at, and nearly under, my feet in her quest to be at the front of the queue for food---I have to be extremely careful as I walk around the driveway, to ensure she doesn't live up to her name!
Here she is, waiting a bit more patiently, on a snow-glazed log a few weeks ago.

If you remember in October we (Paddington and I) visited York and in Stonegate's Original Teddy Bear Shop Paddington noticed a Lonely Bear. Paddinton wanted me to take a photo of him and Lonely Bear. The photo session ended in the train. Paddington decided that all this Bear needs is Family. Our Family!
And He had a Passport already, so there should be no obstacles to travel from one country to another
Bear's name Was Nobody is Perfect.
Born in Stockholm, Sweden. Manufactured by Bukowski Bears
Paddington claimed that this name did not suit the Bear: "All Bears are perfect. We will give him a Proper Name"
After long travelling around finally we reached our home in Latvia. Paddington introduced the new friend to the Family: "This is our new family member and from now on he will live with us."

In the background is Frida, a bear girl from Edinburgh. Frida is a gift from a good friend. Also in the picture there are the twin brothers Leopards. In 1957, Ford introduced the Ranchero, and established a new market segment in the U.S. of an automobile platform based coupé utility. In 1959, Chevrolet responded with the El Camino to compete with Ford's full-sized Ranchero. The original El Camino and Ranchero would compete directly only in the 1959 model year. The El Camino was introduced for the 1959 model year two years after the Ford Ranchero. According to Chevrolet stylist Chuck Jordan, GM's Harley Earl had suggested a coupé pickup in 1952.
The Chevrolet El Camino is a coupé utility vehicle that was produced by Chevrolet in 1959 and 1960, and from 1964 to 1987. Unlike a standard pickup truck, the El Camino was adapted from the standard two-door Chevrolet station wagon platform and integrated the cab and cargo bed into the body.
Introduced in the 1959 model year in response to the success of the Ford Ranchero coupé utility, its first run, based on the Biscayne's B-body, lasted only two years. Production resumed for the 1964–1977 model years based on the Chevelle platform, and continued for the 1978–1987 model years based on the GM G-body platform.
The 1982 (through the final 1987) El Camino sported a new frontal appearance with a crosshatch grille flanked by quad rectangular headlights. New under the hood for 1982 was a 105 hp (78 kW) 5.7-liter (350-cubic-inch) Diesel V8, which was also offered in Chevrolet's full-size cars. Though mileage with the diesel was commendable, it was an expensive option and would eventually amass a dismal repair record. Gasoline-engine choices were unchanged, except Chevrolet's 229-cubic-inch (3.8-liter) V6 was now standard in California-bound cars, replacing Buick's 231-cubic-inch V6.
In 1983, the 4.4-liter V8 was gone, leaving the 5.0-liter version as the only optional gas V8. The standard engine was again Chevrolet's 3.8-liter V6 with 110 hp (82 kW), though California cars, once again, got a Buick V6 with similar specifications. Continuing on the options list was the 5.7-liter V8 Diesel with 105 hp (78 kW). The sister Malibu sedan and wagon were discontinued after the 1983 model year.
For 1985, GM shifted El Camino production to Mexico, and the new fuel-injected 4.3 L V6 became the base engine through 1987. El Camino production ended quietly in late 1987.
I don't know the exact year of the one in the photos, but it's part of the final series produced from 1982 - 1987. I think it happens to be the nicest looking versions of the entire series made.

I encountered this Cheetah family on the Mopani road not far from the Phalaborwa gate. I spent at least 20 minutes alone with them before the next homo sapiens arrived and had enough time to bond with the kids. The mother was a bit uninvolved and constantly looked the other way. She is the one in the background. I was selfish and parked my vehicle far away from the Cheetahs in such a way so that nobody could pass me and approach the animals to take photos with a mobile phone or the like and in the process chase them away. I really had a royal time. Haven't seen Cheetahs in three years.
This small owl was introduced to the UK in the 19th century. It can be seen in the daylight, usually perching on a tree branch, telegraph pole or rock. It will bob its head up and down when alarmed. In flight it has long, rounded wings, rapid wingbeats and flies with a slight undulation.
Breeding Bird Survey data suggest that little owl numbers are declining, with the UK population estimated to be down by 24 per cent between 1995 and 2008. They eat: Small mammals and birds, beetles and worms (Courtesy RSPB).

The peony is a perennial flower. The majority of peony flowers are hybrids, classified as deciduous tree peonies or herbaceous peonies. The flowers on both varieties come in a wide assortment of hues and colors, including pink, red and pure white.
The peony is a showy, frilly and fragrant flower that comes in single or double varieties. The plants are thickly leaved and have large, deep green leaves. The peony possesses a tuberous root system.
Grown mainly as a decorative plant, the peony also has potential medicinal benefits. According to the journal Experimental Neurology, peony root has shown to be effective in treating neuron damage.
Fun Fact...The peony grows wild in many regions of Europe. The Romans introduced it to England around the year 1200.

Garabit, une superbe vallée habitée par un géant de fer
Depuis sa construction, il y a 140 ans, le viaduc de Garabit suscite l’admiration de tous. A ses pieds, la Truyère a creusé son lit dans une somptueuse vallée aux multiples facettes.
Viaduc de Garabit et Gorges de la Truyère sont étroitement liés. L’ouvrage de Gustave Eiffel ne serait pas là, si la rivière n’avait sculpté des gorges profondes infranchissables. Dans les années 1870, l’extension de la ligne de chemin de fer s’envisage vers le Sud, pour relier Paris à Béziers. Il aura fallu l’ingéniosité de Léon Boyer et Gustave Eiffel pour imaginer et réaliser le viaduc de Garabit réunissant les deux rives de la rivière.
Quatre années de travaux pour dévoiler un majestueux viaduc de 564 mètres de long et 122 mètres de haut.
Un chef d’œuvre improbable. Inscrit en 1965, il patientera jusqu’en 2017 pour être classé Monument Historique. Un nouveau défi se présente à lui, celui de prétendre à un classement au patrimoine mondial. Depuis fin 2017, une procédure de candidature au patrimoine mondial réunit 6 viaducs métalliques à grande arche en Allemagne, en Italie, au Portugal et en France. Le viaduc de Garabit et le viaduc du Viaur représentent la partie française.

Garabit, a superb valley inhabited by an iron giant
Since its construction 140 years ago, the Garabit viaduct has aroused the admiration of all. At its feet, the Truyère has dug its bed in a sumptuous valley with multiple facets.
The Garabit Viaduct and the Truyère Gorges are closely linked. Gustave Eiffel's work would not be there if the river had not carved deep, impassable gorges. In the 1870s, the extension of the railway line was considered towards the South, to connect Paris to Béziers. It took the ingenuity of Léon Boyer and Gustave Eiffel to imagine and build the Garabit viaduct, uniting the two banks of the river.
Four years of work to unveil a majestic viaduct 564 meters long and 122 meters high.
An improbable masterpiece. Registered in 1965, it will wait until 2017 to be classified as a Historic Monument. A new challenge presents itself to it, that of claiming a classification as a world heritage site. Since the end of 2017, a world heritage application procedure has brought together 6 large-arched metal viaducts in Germany, Italy, Portugal and France. The Garabit viaduct and the Viaur viaduct represent the French part.
