Cinnamon ( Angora ) Gill Ferret.

Huge white bird with long neck and all-black bill. Immatures dusky gray-brown with pink on bill. Forages in shallow, vegetated wetlands reaching under the water for plants, and walks through corn stubble. Breeds in freshwater marshes and ponds. Winters on any open body of water where food is available. Extremely similar to Tundra Swan, but never shows yellow on bill. Also, note subtle features of face: facial skin is relatively broad where it meets eye, so the eye doesn't stand out, and border between white face and black bill is straight (curved on Tundra). From head-on, the border of the bill and forehead is usually pointed (straight or curved on Tundra). Often in pairs or family groups. Almost went extinct in early 20th century, but population has rebounded and been reintroduced to some areas. (eBird)

This swan was an unusual find in Victoria. It was nice to see one without wing tags - most of the Trumpeter Swans in Ontario have been re-introduced and so sport large yellow tags on their wings. Admittedly, this makes it easier to identify them if you can't see their face clearly.

My Neighbours 10 month old Black Cat ..

This sweet girl is one of six baby red squirrels frolicking all over the front yard for the past few weeks. There will be more but this group is the first. Three out of the six have distinct white streaks and this girl is pure blonde with just hints of red. I have never seen one like her before in my life. I am wondering if the light grey male squirrel that has settled here since winter is the dad. I've been spending time with them all and they have become quite friendly. We shall see who stays and who goes once they get older.

I want to introduce You Veronica. I met her in Gerstruben in the Allgäu Alps. As a model, she acted very professionell and cooperative. I found that name on one of her earmarks written by hand. The fact, that someone gives names to his livestock is telling a lot how he is treating them and a lot about the agriculture in this region. It was really keen, to see that.

Adopted on 6/13/10. A very energetic Wire Haired Terrier

Meet my stalker, Spike the Wood Pigeon. Unable to find a mate and rejected by his parents, Spike has taken a liking to me. He comes and sit next to me when I'm taking photo's in the garden. He waits at my backdoor each morning until I feed him, he won't let me stroke him but I have to be careful when I'm walking because he gets under my feet. I have to sit with him when he feeds, if I leave him he flies off leaving his food and won't come back until I return. He has a distinctive white spike on his white on his left side, hence the name.

I've lived in Alaska for 23 years now and have only seen bison three times. The first two times the herd was on the Deltana River at least a half mile away. The third time, five bison came to within 25 yard of us. We were on our way to see family near Tok Alaska when we seen these bison walking in a clearing. Needless to say, we, my wife and I were really excited to see them. We only had a few minutes with them, they turned and went back into the woods, but wow, what an experience.

These bison are part of a herd that was introduced to Alaska back in 1928.

California quail were first introduced to NZ in 1862 in South Auckland. They spread in most parts of NZ despite a low survival rate in chicks. This year I had a family move into my garden, but unfortunately several of the chicks appear to have not survived. The family now consists of only one remaining chick. They forge in my courtyard and the papa always stands guard on the fence and warns them of any danger. They have become familiar with my presence, that I will bring them no harm.

Usually found in warm temperate and subtropical areas, it is probably native to southern Africa. It is familiar elsewhere, particularly the coastline of western North America, where it is an introduced invasive species that has taken hold and become commonplace. It is also found, and naturalized, in Argentina, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Australia, Spain, Southern England and New Zealand. Grown in sunny conditions, it is normally found within coastal dunes and bluffs, margins of estuaries, along roadsides; at elevations from sea level to 100 meters along the southern Pacific Coast of North America. Sadly our sweet Paddy has passed away at 14 years old <3

We miss him greatly... until we meet again. <3

Our little Peppa now has a new sister Rosey to play with :)

Our little surprise arrived this week- and we have been enjoying him every hour of the day!

Couple weeks ago we had to send off to doggie heaven our 13 year old schnauzer that had a stroke.

After a long search, Moose has joined the Krach household to bring some new joy ... and to keep our 10 year old schnoodle busy. Moose is a puppy schnauzer with lots of spunk ... and kisses too.

Captured here when we took Moose down to visit with my Dad on this lovely Autumn day in Maryland where Moose got to play with our dog, and my sister's dogs as well. While being tiny ... he played very well with them. Wore them all out quickly actually.

He seems to not be camera shy as well ... which is nice for me ;)

Introduced as a game species in Sierra Espuña Natural Park. Often very hard to find.

There are four types of Dik Diks. One species was introduced many years ago to Prison Island off the western shores of Stone Town in Zanzibar. I still need to ascertain which this is. My guess is that these are Kirks Dik Dik's. They are a diminutive antelope that only stand at around 12-15 inches at the shoulder. Being so small they have a habit of hiding away in forests and are really skittish. I considered myself to be lucky to encounter this one, although scrambling through the undergrowth did reward me with a few flesh woulds from the prickly shrubbery.

As can be seen it was pretty dark in the woodland so I had to crank up the ISO.

Our new puppy -an apricot standard poodle boy!

How hard is it do you think to get four people to agree on a name? The front runner at the moment is Harpo. He will have the same golden curls as the famous Harpo Marx.

George the cocky was quite interested in the pup and behaved reasonably well but as soon as the pup starts crying, George, not be outdone, does his monkey impersonation much louder, drowning out the howls of the pup. Then George throws in a bark or two. It’s all “look at me, Look at me.” Alfie the budgie looks on and wonders what all the fuss is about.

We have an interesting time ahead to try to socialise the puppy in the crucial next few weeks when it is the very thing we are unable to do. We have bought an App that plays all sorts of noises to expose him too and we have been encouraged to dressup and wigs, glasses and hats so he is exposed to different looks. We will take him in the car to look out the window and do what we can to help him understand the world is more than just our home and the four people in it.

Is it too soon to say I am in love?

Fern leaves about to emerge on the bank of the Taieri river. In the background the yellow is gorse flowers, considered by many to be New Zealand's worst scrub weed and full of sharp spikes. It was originally introduced to New Zealand for hedges, but now occupies large areas of hillcountry.

Have a good week and thanks for visiting southern NZ.

I encountered this Cheetah family on the Mopani road not far from the Phalaborwa gate. I spent at least 20 minutes alone with them before the next homo sapiens arrived and had enough time to bond with the kids. The mother was a bit uninvolved and constantly looked the other way. She is the one in the background. I was selfish and parked my vehicle far away from the Cheetahs in such a way so that nobody could pass me and approach the animals to take photos with a mobile phone or the like and in the process chase them away. I really had a royal time. Haven't seen Cheetahs in three years.

Common in varied wooded and forested habitats, parks, gardens, farmland with hedges and scattered trees. Forms flocks in winter; often visits garden feeders. Handsome, brightly colored male is distinctive, with bluish cowl, pink face and breast, black-and-white wing pattern (colors muted in winter). Female much drabber but shares male pattern; especially note the complex wing pattern. Both sexes have white outer tail feathers, often striking in flight such as when flushed. (eBird)

We encountered chaffinchs (another introduced species) over much of the country, but did not stop to photograph them too often since our focus was on native birds. This female, though, was in a parking area so I took advantage of the opportunity.

Pictured here is Tramcar No 21 - one of the 'Oldest Tram Cars in the World' built in 1899 and still regularly used on the Manx Electric Railway (MER) which was built between 1893 and 1899 and connects the Island's Capital Douglas with Laxey in the East and Ramsey in the North.

This early morning image was taken at Onchan near Douglas during an 'Inside Track' Private Photo Charter before the service trains began and en route initially to Laxey. We spent the day using this splendid vehicle travelling the whole rail system.

It's acknowledged the MER is the longest narrow gauge vintage electric railway system in the British Isles and still uses its original Victorian and Edwardian Rolling Stock.

Let me introduce you to the little brother of the great iron lady - Garabit ! 140 years, Happy Birthday - Cantal - Auvergne - France - Europe

Garabit, a superb valley inhabited by an iron giant

Since its construction 140 years ago, the Garabit viaduct has aroused the admiration of all. At its feet, the Truyère has dug its bed in a sumptuous valley with multiple facets.

The Garabit Viaduct and the Truyère Gorges are closely linked. Gustave Eiffel's work would not be there if the river had not carved deep, impassable gorges. In the 1870s, the extension of the railway line was considered towards the South, to connect Paris to Béziers. It took the ingenuity of Léon Boyer and Gustave Eiffel to imagine and build the Garabit viaduct, uniting the two banks of the river.

Four years of work to unveil a majestic viaduct 564 meters long and 122 meters high.

An improbable masterpiece. Registered in 1965, it will wait until 2017 to be classified as a Historic Monument. A new challenge presents itself to it, that of claiming a classification as a world heritage site. Since the end of 2017, a world heritage application procedure has brought together 6 large-arched metal viaducts in Germany, Italy, Portugal and France. The Garabit viaduct and the Viaur viaduct represent the French part.
