Whenever I come back from New Zealand, Ash has always done something new to the apartment. I was sure there was nothing left to do. But, no! I come home to this wonderful new lounge! I love it so much. And the whole house was filled with wild, beautiful flowers....

Situated in the western Boston suburbs, this beautiful Colonial-era home needed an addition to make it more family-friendly. We worked in tandem with an architect to help design the addition “from the inside out” – one of our favorite things to do. Our clients wanted to make sure the feeling of their 1780’s home came through in the details of the addition, so we designed the new fireplace surround and entertainment area millwork in a traditional raised panel style, while incorporating needed storage. As the addition was completed, our clients then asked for more interior design services, which went on to include the selection of all furniture, fabrics, finishes and accessories.
For Form, Space and Order, we ended up designing an 8'x8'x8' "living cube", a living space that was required to have a sleeping area, seating for two, storage & 24 linear feet of shelving, a work station, and a separate piece of furniture (like a chair or light).
My solution was based upon disaster relief, temporary/transitional living for those with severe damage to or complete loss of their homes. The sofa transitions to a bunk bed (it's a design from the Italian furniture company Clei), there's some shallow shelving on either side of it, a wall of curvilinear shelving across from it that frames a large window with triangular cantilevered panes, a drop-leaf oval table on casters with small storage in the central support, a barn door, and the remaining windows oval. One of the professional designers, in viewing the final result (see the half scale model picture) in a jury, completely got it when she characterized it as "a hug." She also mentioned she'd like to see that hug taken further, and I'm tempted to do just that now that I'm not constrained with restrictions or requirements.

Un espacio diáfano que comparten el dormitorio y el salón, en el que se crearon varios ambientes. Tiene capacidad para dos personas, pero hay espacio para colocar una cama supletoria. La cocina y el cuarto de baño se abren al espacio principal por medio de unas puertas correderas, sujetas a un sistema de sujeción superior, sin riel en el suelo. De esta forma, el pavimento laminado con acabado de roble unifica todos los ambientes sin antiestéticas interrupciones.

For this project, our Rendering class took the living room we drew for our first project and did a color rendering.
Flannel grey Mi-Teintes paper. Prismacolor markers, Faber Castell colored pencils.
Books, toys, and crafts are organized in lightweight bins. Artwork is framed and also hung from clips on a clothesline. Simple inexpensive furniture gets a jolt of color from art and color blocked books.

For this North Shore estate, a former 1907 stable and carriage house, we provided both the interior architectural design for a complete renovation, as well as interior design and interior decorating services. This 5,600 s.f. condo was completely transformed from a 1980’s developer package into a stylish, upscale home with significant European panache. We not only added all of the architectural details and cabinetry, but selected furniture, fabrics, accessories and artwork. This project has received numerous awards and has thus far been published in two magazines.
