ELEV(I)ATE - an interactive installation by choreographer/performer Athena Mazarakis and digital artist, Tegan Bristow in the foyer of the Market Theatre, New Town, Johannesburg. Part of the Johannesburg Dance Umbrella programme, March 2010. As a performer working within an interactive installation designed by Bristow, Mazarakis invited passers-by to participate in a dance lift, "the currency of exchange" within each meeting. Mazarakis' skill as a comic performer was evident in her spontaneous interactions between a large variety of participants; while different elements of interactive media refracted and reflected the encounter through a plethora of images ranging from animated information graphics to disco lights & live video. But the results of the lifts were often deeply felt, even spiritual in effect, with Mazarkis's partners often overwhelmed by emotion released through the uplifting experience.

This is a variation of something I made for a Cartoon Network interactive television show prototype. In the real prototype it doesn't look anything like this, and I had to remove the actual content because we have a non-disclosure agreement with them. Here I've basically changed it to make it look like abstract art.

(raw images are just so painful to edit on my Mac mini) Me and Lucy, doing something; I don't know what. C'mon: it was March. Such crazy, crazy days.
