I could not find any good photos of a broadwell core online so I decided to fix that. Note that this is from an engineering sample (QK3J, stepping R0).

Unlike most CPU die shots where I use a 5X objective, since I was only doing a single core I was able to use a 10X objective. To compensate for the reduction in light, I had to get two LED floodlights and use a 5 second exposure. I also had to increase the exposure in GIMP.

Opening this up was relatively easy and I followed the usual proceedure until I hit the final 2 layers. These layers were very tough and I was going through too many razors, so I used a pencil eraser to soften them up before going back to the razor to finish up.

Revisiting architectures I already did previously but didn't do a very good job on at the time. Scaled down to 75% of original size.

This is from an engineering sample (QK3J).

This is the first die-shot created using my custom automated stage + controller setup. It is still a work in progress and I discovered some issues during this run that I will be fixing before the next chip. The code for maintaining focus across the chip didn't work for the bottom right corner.

A chip of this size would have taken me atleast 4 hours to capture manually, the automated system was able to do it in 2.5 hours with no input from me other than for setting it up.

There is still a bit of residue left, when I prepared this chip I only intended to do a single core close-up, but a poorly-lit and low-res photo of this chip got included in Ivan Musachev's collage and I so I wanted to get a better picture for that.

Early reports are coming up that as amazing as the GTX 1080 Founders Edition is, it perhaps is not as good as the MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X. MSI tends to push cards a bit more aggressively as an OEM should. So the question is less about which is better, but what works for you the gamer. MSI version of the Nvidia card is meant to be pro gamer in the sense that there is a much more of focus on creating an experience that refreshes what Nvidia is doing.
