To attach the countertop to the cabinets, I screwed through the cross-pieces on the tops of the cabinets.
The official Ikea method is to use these cool L-brackets, but you need to buy an Ikea countertop to get the brackets, and we obviously aren't doing that. This was the method they used in the store displays, so I figure it will work for us (Hopefully we won't run into long-term issues with expansion and contraction since we're using MDF.)
