Captured during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August 2018. I was lining up this shot for the next available opportunity and this young lad stepped into the frame with his yellow drink, Minions "I Didn't Do It" shirt and that eye contact. I couldn't turn down such a shot. I hope you like this previously unpublished image. Stay safe!

Mike used to be a seasonal hunter before he met me. I then told him that if he wasn't going to eat it, he shouldn't hunt it. He switched to fishing which is mostly catch, photograph and release.
The Black-bellied Whistling Ducks are just looking on as an agitated Snowy Egret pursues an (off-camera) competitor for its territory. Marshall Lake in the Kickerillo-Mischer Preserve in northern Houston, Texas.

A quick portrait of my daughter soon to be 3 years old. It was amazing that she let me take this one as she usually shies away from the camera hehe. I love this kind of portrait with the sun behind, it adds so much to the picture by lighting up the hair. She's sitting on top of her bike and gives her this badass look haha.

Instead of posting another impressive bull, I'm ending my mini-series of elk rut images with this young elk calf.
For first year calves, the rut must be a bit frightening. I refer to them as innocent bystanders. But, as Bill Bowman points out, they are the point of the rut and the future of the species.

A gray fox kit stopping and looking at me with that innocent look :-). I miss seeing these little cuties! Now that people are at the campground and in their cottages, they have not been seen much but are heard making noises at night! I spent almost 3 weeks watching this family and it was truly amazing!

If you are looking to save your war it is over that way.
News today that scapegoats are being looked for in Russia to blame for a failing war. Now it seems this war may have been fought to keep a leader in power. As the atrocities count rises it certainly wasn't about saving innocent lives.
White Ibis, Eudocimus albus. Drooling with anticipation? Perched on the observation deck in Wetlands at Riverstone--a tiny, lovely, wholly artificial wildlife and botanical refuge, which was surely mandated by local flood control requirements for construction of new residential and commercial development. The bird and the pond are both perched high above neighboring Steep Bank Creek.
Bears in the woods do it, birds do it, neither can be blamed for human interruption and replacement of natural recycling systems and habitats. Hope you will pause for a moment to ponder humanity's role in our shared ancestor, the biosphere.

Tofu earned the nickname Dragon as a kitten when he used to hiss and spit at the older cats of the family to impress them and wanted them to believe that he was a big fearsome dragon. It didn't really work as everbody knew from the beginning that he was a rather innocent soul.
