Polder mills were used for drainage purposes (there are none in the east of the country, where the height above sea level ensures natural drainage of water). Industrial mills were used for a wide variety of purposes, such as milling wheat, extracting oil, hulling rice and peppercorns, and sawing wood. Some of these are still is use today.

stumbled on this logo today. kind of like it.

Well to find out I have two of these things as well. Glass bottom, screw on top portion which houses the grinding wheel. I feel secure in the knowledge that if I want to grind up nuts I could just go crazy!

These electronic/magnetic mahjong tables are pimp! They shuffle the tiles for you and then pop them up perfectly alligned in rows! Alls you gotsa to do is to shove all the tiles to the center, press the magic button and viola!

Here's a view beneath the table top, so's you can see the innerworkings.

I like the graphic quality of this artpiece.

This is the mechanism of the duality of the mind. Struggling to balance the logical and emotional hemispheres with artistic expression.

View over a ravelin on the 16th century fortress. (A ravelin is a triangular fortification or detached outwork, located in front of the innerworks of a fortress (the curtain walls and bastions)).

So, our computer died this last week. It served valiantly for five years before succumbing to a recurrence of power cord port failure. After purchasing a new computer, we gutted the old one and saved the hard drive to transfer all of the information from one machine to the other. I think it's a really pretty shade of blue...

This old petrol pump has been out of action for a long time. I've passed this spot for many years but only notice it recently.

the magical innerworkings of the Worldbridges.net live webcasting machine. Three mic's, an audio splitter, a cell phone, an MP3 recorder and a bunch of scotch tape. Not too shabby Jeff.

I took this shot as a reference in case I got confused. I didn't need it, it was really easy to assemble.

Naked C-3PO, much more poignant and sympathetic than annoying "clothed" C-3PO.

While pruning roses in the late afternoon on September 2nd, I noticed a set on one of the bushes with a bent stem. I knew that if I left it as it was, all of the buds would fail to open. So, I cut it off the plant and place it in a vase of water. I had planned to take a photo that evening of the center bud, which had just begun to open. but I forgot. By late day on September 3rd, it was completely open. This macro set is an attempt to honor its beauty before it fades. Hopefully, the other buds will unfold too.

tick. tock.

i'm in love with these colors, by the way.

My current 'workstation'. Located at the super comfy lounger in the living room. I've finally learned (not having a lovely permanent studio... yet! One is in the works!!!! Yay!!) to have things handy dandy and easily moveable... Over the years it was a huge hassel trying to pack up my supplies if I wanted to do any mailling while I was away from my comfy little apartment... So trolley carts with wheels, it is (!), that can be easily lifted into the car! I only, recently, stumbled upon this solution (I used to put everything into shoe boxes - which, of course, were not meant for all that weight and usually tore apart sooner or later in the corners... I'm rambling)!

I opened up a faulty DVD player that we had lying around. The fault was not apparent. In fact, it seemed to be working fine.

While it was open, I took a bunch of cool macro shots, and a bunch of even cooler macro video, that I hope to edit together sometime soon.

There's a weakness in a window

Place my footprints in a dark room

There's lonely voices like a scarecrow

In the hallway like a lost coast

In the bedroom I see a shadow

From the moon with light from a candle

On a bed frame lies a girl

Her reflection in the mirror

I do it from time to time

Where I can never wake from a bad dream

From time to time

I do it from time to time

Where I can never say the things I mean

From time to time

I do this from time to time

Where I like to watch you as you sleep

From time to time

I do this from time to time

Where I like to think of you and me

It's a dark night on the west coast

Yet a soft breeze as the sun rose

Then the phone rang like a gunshot

Like a siren on the beach rock

There's a passage at the river

A certain package here to deliver

When the day breaks after nightfall

I will be there, you know I will...

what i really meant was 'i do this from time to time; i take things apart just to view their innerworkings and explore the source of their power'

this was my old camera that my sister broke :(

i took the opportunity to thoroughly dissect it.
