The 'Tom Uren Trail' that commences in a leafy laneway beside these 1800s terrace houses, is a tribute to the great soldier and politician, Tom Uren (1921-2015), who fought valiantly to stop the destruction of all the historic homes in this suburb at a time when the world was less conscious of preserving the past.

Barangaroo is an inner-city suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It is located on the north-western edge of the Sydney central business district and the southern end of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It is part of the local government area of the City of Sydney, and was part of the territory of the Cadigal people, the traditional owners of the Sydney city region. The area was used for fishing and hunting by Indigenous Australians prior to colonial settlement. The area is inclusive of The Hungry Mile, the name harbourside workers gave to the docklands area of Darling Harbour East during The Great Depression, where workers would walk from wharf to wharf in search of a job, often failing to find one. In 2003, the Government of New South Wales determined that the precinct would be redeveloped from shipping and stevedoring facilities to provide more commercial office space and recreational areas. 7865

When I took an afternoon stroll in the spring sunshine a few months ago, I walked past this bush bursting with beautiful pink, sweetly fragrant, roses in the well maintained garden of a stylish 1910s Arts and Crafts villa. The vibrant pink blooms were too beautiful not to photograph.

Spring in Melbourne this year was particularly beautiful, with gardens bursting forth with beautiful coloured blooms in a profusion of colours after a wetter than usual winter.

Capital City Trail, North Fitzroy, Victoria

We are currently in lockdown here in Melbourne due to a resurgence of COVID-19. We are allowed an hour out of home for exercise each day and quite a few (such as myself) are taking the opportunity to explore the byways of our city such as the Capital City Trail which is a shared pathway going through some of our parks and along some of our waterways, the Yarra River in particular. I didn't see many cyclists when I went out the other day but plenty of pedestrians. In this picture, we are near Rushall Station in North Fitzroy.

The local coffee shop, where folks gather to share a cup of joe, and discuss the days activities.

Walking through life

and making our plans

.

Down deep in the city, where the sun barely reaches, where the sounds reflect off the buildings and are amplified by the ears, where the time of day can only be determined by the warmth or coolness of the air--down deep in the city where life vibrates like the inner workings of a beehive. Truth be known, I enjoy the vibrant chaos, especially where photos are concerned.

KanlıKavak Parkı, Eskişehir, Turkey. Nice morning for a picnic!

A house built in 1882, with a nice shabbiness to it in what is now a hardscrabble inner city area, still is in full Christmas splendor in March, including trees on the back roof which cannot be seen from here.

I don't know whether 365-day Christmas stores are still in vogue but this might be a 365-day Christmas house.

The house is in one of Winnipeg's early residential neighborhoods which now has transitioned to a mostly industrial area.

Walking down the center of the streets of Norway one rainy afternoon, and this is what I saw.

The building in the centre of the image is called "De Waag". It is a weigh house on the Brink in the innercity of a historic part of Deventer. It is the oldest weigh house in The Netherlands that is being considered as such.

The style is late gothic with three stories, a stairs tower, a bell tower and three smaller towers. It was built from 1528 until 1531. In 1643 a late manieristic terrace was built with three pillars. It was used as a weigh house until 1862, after which (among others) a school was situated. From 1915 the building housed the musuem of municipal history, which was closed in 2014.

I always wanted to photograph this impressive building at night. On this particular night it was very foggy, which added a surreal mood to the location.

A b&w image cinematically transformed with some color.

More streetlife, urban poetry, innercity blues : Traces of places

I took an afternoon stroll in the spring sunshine the other day, and I walked past this beautiful pink and yellow, sweetly fragrant, rose which is thriving on neglect in the original garden of a stylish 1930s Art Deco clinker brick villa. Bathed in spring sunshine the pink and yellow bloom was too beautiful not to photograph.

Spring has finally come to Melbourne, and everywhere, gardens are bursting forth with beautiful coloured blooms in a profusion of colours after a wetter than usual winter.
