The 'Tom Uren Trail' that commences in a leafy laneway beside these 1800s terrace houses, is a tribute to the great soldier and politician, Tom Uren (1921-2015), who fought valiantly to stop the destruction of all the historic homes in this suburb at a time when the world was less conscious of preserving the past.

Barangaroo is an inner-city suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It is located on the north-western edge of the Sydney central business district and the southern end of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It is part of the local government area of the City of Sydney, and was part of the territory of the Cadigal people, the traditional owners of the Sydney city region. The area was used for fishing and hunting by Indigenous Australians prior to colonial settlement. The area is inclusive of The Hungry Mile, the name harbourside workers gave to the docklands area of Darling Harbour East during The Great Depression, where workers would walk from wharf to wharf in search of a job, often failing to find one. In 2003, the Government of New South Wales determined that the precinct would be redeveloped from shipping and stevedoring facilities to provide more commercial office space and recreational areas. 7865

Walking through life

and making our plans

.

Down deep in the city, where the sun barely reaches, where the sounds reflect off the buildings and are amplified by the ears, where the time of day can only be determined by the warmth or coolness of the air--down deep in the city where life vibrates like the inner workings of a beehive. Truth be known, I enjoy the vibrant chaos, especially where photos are concerned.

San Francisco CA.

id have to say where i pick up one student.. most are rather poor, uneducated, and this is their life, some people ,no mater where you go, are good , and some are bad..very very bad!

most of the houses are boarded up, due to fires or drugs or both. you all know this corner, theres the stop sign, straigth ahead.

but as the clouds were moving by me , i saw something.. and i had to capture the moment... this is it. its 50 degrees today and we had a big 5inch snow fall just yesterday..

thats all the steam you see being released from the snow melting.

The blue house along Commonwealth Street, Surry Hills, amid Sydney's "Bohemian" inner city.

I visited Surry Hills as part of my city walking and photographic adventure last Wednesday, 2nd September, 2020.

Needless to say the cafe at the end of this street - Shift Eatery - was vegan and my flat white coffee had to be made with 'vegan milk' consisting of rice, nuts and grains. Lunch was also challenging - smoked tofu, kale slaw, lime tahini, "cheese" made from cashews, grilled cherry tomatoes, etc. No animal products. No dairy. Wonderful. Not. For the full catastrophe see:

www.shifteatery.com.au/

And speaking of "catastrophes", just up the road from the vegan cafe and the blue house, is the cat cafe. Yes, a cat cafe. You eat surrounded by cats. True. See:

www.catmospherecafe.com.au/

Only in Surry Hills.

So I thought 'Blue Monday' by New Order (1983 and then re-released in 1988), would be appropriate to accompany the blue house in Surry Hills. I used to love this song back in the day!

I think you may need to right click the link in order to listen to the song in a new browser.

The Danish Cycling Culture

In Denmark, bicycling is one of the primary forms of transportation.

In sunshine, rain, hail, snow - you will see bicyclists on their way to work, the grocery store, or social events. "The bike is a Dane's best friend" - particularly in the larger Danish cities that offer an extensive network of bicycle lanes.

The 2022 Tour de France was the 109th edition of the rance and started in Copenhagen, Denmark on 1 July 2022 and ended with the final stage on the Champs-Élysées, Paris on 24 July 2022

The Zakkendragershuisje dates back to 1725. Bag carriers used to be notified that there was a job with the clock in the roof turret. Before the division of the work was 'smacked': the men passed dice through a funnel. Whoever threw the highest eyes got the job.

There are always fences, whether of our own making, or the edicts of others prescribing and proscribing where we may or may not set foot.
