The Solway has lost so many Barnacle Geese to Bird Flu this year. My walk on Sunday was coloured by seeing one dead and two dying Barnacle Geese and knowing that in excess of 130 dead were found at Anthorn.
I thought for a while about using this but felt I needed to because it had such an effect on me.

If you say the word, "vaccine," in the United States today, many of us will turn off our thinking brain and revert to slogans we read on social media.
When you see a compound femur fracture, you recognize the harm. There's a bone fragment sticking out of this person's leg. It may be less visible but people who treat infectious diseases know the harm caused. They see patients every day who would have been better off if they had not contracted the disease. Medical treatment costs money. There's lost productivity. There are medical bankrupcies. Poor management of infectious disease is expensive. Indirectly, we all pay for these costs.
I claim, vaccine availability is part of a road that leads from developing country status to industrialized nation status. On the developing country side, where vacines cannot be had, you face higher mortality rates. Your grandchildren will die preventable deaths. We'll miss them a lot. They won't grow up to be friends and to be the great talents who solve our nation's problems. On the industrialized side, fewer grandchildren die. If you willfully go to the developing country side, it's an uphill battle to get back to 2024.

African painted dogs have suffered severe decline in range and are now found in small pockets throughout the continent.
1) They are wanderers: Their territory can be over 500km and hence they can be hard to find on a game drive. However, once a litter is born, they will limit their nomadic movements and hunting areas closer to the den.
2) They look out for each other: Once they reach maturity, the males stay within the natal pack, and the females move on to join new packs. When the pups are old enough to eat solids, they are given the priority at a kill.
3) They care for the young ones: A pack of about six dogs usually consists of one breeding pair and several non-breeding adult males. A breeding female will give birth once a year with a litter of an average of 10 pups. The pups are born in a shelter of thick bush or in a hole. The entire pack is normally involved in the nurturing and welfare of the pups.
4) They are some of the most efficient hunters ever known. They hunt by day usually in the early hours of dawn, in the late evenings and occasionally in the moonlight. When they hunt, some dogs follow their prey closely, whilst the others stay behind. They then take over when the front team gets tired. They have phenomenal stamina that tires their prey, and use their strength as a pack to bring their victim down. The leading dog – normally a dominant male or female will select a particular target and pursue it with others following close behind.
5) To avoid their kill being stolen, they eat fast. Their biggest competitors are the scavenging, spotted hyenas. The dogs will keep the hyenas at bay by having some dogs on guard duty whilst others feed. The larger the pack, the stronger the resistance. They share when they feed and do not fight for food. Puppies will be fed first. Sick and injured dogs are also fed as long as they remain with the pack.

To me, it’s absolutely appalling to see the people who are usually publicly condemning him, other politicians, media people and so, so many of us ‘little folk” on social media who are shocked and sickened by him, his actions and the vast lies he tells, the dastardly deeds he does, the illegalities, financially and constitutionally, he is alleged to have made and the threats he continues to make, appalled that those same people are now ‘sending their prayers’, ‘best wishes for a speedy recovery”, ‘healing thoughts’ and other sappy Hallmark sentiments while you know damn well they are muttering under their breath, ‘Die, Die You Motherfucker’. But I understand their predicament. Being public figures they don’t want a backlash on their careers, their place in government or their particular religious beliefs on wishing someone dead. Me, I have no such boundaries. I do not subscribe to any past or present mythologies that cloud my logic as to what is right and what is wrong. And trump is wrong. Dead wrong.
I am not evil. In fact, based on what others think of me, I am a very good person. A nice person. Caring, kind, very aware and very respectful of the natural world around me and the life that is in it. I’m also aware that Donald J. Trump is the most dangerous threat to Democracy and freedom that this country, the United States of America, has ever seen. If Mother Nature does decide to eliminate that threat on a permanent basis, I’m all for it and am cheering her on. Rah-Rah Mother Nature! But I’m not holding out hope that she will permanently remove him from this mortal coil. With all the help and medical support anyone could wish for, I’m sure he will make a total recovery…..UNLESS…….
Being the consummate liar that is trump, it wouldn’t surprise me one iota to discover he is not really COVID19 positive. That he is totally faking it, creating another sham to avoid having to deal with another debate debacle, or maybe just a show to gain sympathy from his cult to gain votes from those who may have been swayed a bit with his White Supremacy support or his tax evasion or the fact he is the main reason for the misinformation circulating across the US regarding COVID19 along with his downplaying of the disease from the get go; even though he knew full well how dangerous and deadly it was, he thereby condemned to death thousands more people who may have survived if proper precautions had been taken early on instead of being ignored or mocked. Only time will tell.
I do hope Melania totally recovers from her symptoms, if she, too, really has them. I wish no ill will on her. I believe she had no idea what she was really getting into when she met trump, getting in far over her head, flailing and floundering ever since she preceded him down that golden escalator of the trump Tower. Almost as though she was being escorted by Satan himself on her way down to Hell.

Researchers have found that a group of viruses that cause severe stomach illness get transmitted to humans through membrane-cloaked “virus clusters” that exacerbate the spread and severity of disease. The discovery of these clusters, the scientists say, marks a turning point in the understanding of how these viruses spread and why they are so infectious. This preliminary work could lead to the development of more effective antiviral agents than existing treatments that mainly target individual particles.
