A cosmic vision painted inside Qoricancha, the most important temple of the Inka Empire, located in Cusco, Peru. This artwork represents "Willka Mayu" (Sacred River), the Inka name for the Milky Way. The Inka believed that the celestial river mirrored the Vilcanota River on Earth, forming a vital part of their agricultural calendar, spiritual life, and cosmic worldview. This stunning piece captures both the mystery and vibrancy of their astronomical knowledge.

Amy and I stopped down at the "Peruvian restaurant Inca Heritage last night. We had been intending to try it for quite some ime but just never seemed to get there.

We were both very happy with our meals, and I was more then a little surprised when I looked them up on the web after I got home. There were a fair number of negative reviews for them. I am not sure if things have changed, we were just lucky, or if the unhappy people just speak loudest.

Whatever the case I imagine we will stop in again sometime.

Humahuaca, Jujuy: A towering stone sculpture of a llama stands as a silent sentinel against the brilliant, cloud-streaked azure sky of the Argentine Northwest. The craftsmanship of the statue reveals a meticulous assembly of earth-toned, rough-hewn stones, contrasting sharply with the smooth, burnished finish of the figure's head and neck. Captured with a clean, low-angle perspective, the composition emphasizes the monumental scale of this local icon, which reflects the profound artistic heritage of the Andean highlands. The bright, high-noon sunlight accentuates the tactile quality of the masonry, casting gentle shadows that delineate the curve of the llama's ear and the structural integrity of its form. Nearby, a secondary architectural element suggests the presence of a larger, ceremonial space dedicated to preserving indigenous traditions and regional narratives. The stark clarity of the atmosphere in this high-altitude region allows for saturated colors that make the sculpture appear almost detached from reality, floating against the vast expanse of the atmosphere. Photographically, the shot utilizes a sharp depth of field to isolate the figure, ensuring that every textured pebble and smooth contour remains crisp and visually engaging. As a cultural landmark, this sculpture serves as a primary point of interest for travelers exploring the Quebrada de Humahuaca, acting as a bridge between the ancient history of the region and contemporary tourism. Such monuments are essential to understanding the identity of the Jujuy province, where art and landscape are inextricably linked through centuries of Andean influence. This image is a collaborative production by Samuel Jeffery and Audrey Bergner for Project 23.
