I think I've finally found them emigrating... on a transcribed passenger list! The "Herlund" family: Olaf, Anna, Marget, Olaf, Anna (Berta), Marget's daughter, Christina, and a neighbor girl who traveled with them, Anna Greta Pehrssdotter Tjalldin*.

They registered for permission to emigrate on 30 June 1868, this ship traveled on 31 July 1868. This is the Liverpool to NYC leg of the trip.

Here they are listed with their names & ages (& actual ages):

Olof 41 (51)

Anna 40 (52)

Mgt 21 (24)

Olof 19 (19)

Lars 17 (15, almost 16)

Anna 14 (12)

Christine (12 Anna Greta would be 12)

Edin 9 ?? who is this?

Anna 7 (Christine would be 6)

There are some discrepancies, but pretty accurate. I've found the image of the actual document - which is hard to read and the transcription is accurate - so it doesn't offer any additional information. There are a number of other "Herlunds" listed after Olaf's family, as well, so that needs to be investigated, too.

*Anna Margreta Pehrsdotter Tjalldin married Ingel Andersson in Stockholm Township in 1870. Their daughter, Emma Julia Anderson, married Lars Hedlund's son, Wallace Edward.

The Sydney Customs House was used as a gateway for immigrants and visitors to the country until the early 1900s. The building is located on the Circular Quay, the main wharf for pedestrian boats. From 1901 to 1975 the White Australia Policy banned non-Europeans from immigrating to Australia to prevent the Chinese and Japanese from becoming a threat to the nation. Since the repeal of the White Australia Policy, about a third of the population is now of Asian descent.
