My absolute favourite place to welcome the sun. It just so happens to be the most easterly point in North America as well so I’m also the first. Usually I’m there alone except for a random fox and an occasional early morning hiker. It’s always windy and always cold but the sound of the waves, the smell of the salt water, and that fresh cool air filling my lungs makes me feel alive. There isn’t another place on earth I’d rather be at that hour of the day. And just thinking about it now makes me crave another early morning lonesome adventure to welcome a new day.

This is the windows of the lighthouse in the previous photo I posted looking toward the newer, more traditional lighthouse. Both lighthouses are beautiful but I’m partial to the short one!

Happy window Wednesday all! Thank goodness we are already half way through the week!!

She's 8 and a figure skater. Or so we thought. In January of 2023, she joined girls under 9 hockey. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to be already travelling to her first tournament and seeing her actually win. She's one of the smallest out there but she plays with heart and those little legs can fly.

As much as it is all for fun, before every game she becomes silent as she waits to take the ice. This is her wait before the championship.

Took an early morning drive just to get out to shoot. I had no destination in mind besides Tim Hortons for a large tea! I just drove, enjoyed the alone time, and finally ended up pulling over in Bay Bulls when I saw a few boats that I had previously passed a million times.

I was actually using black and white film but my Sony was ready to go too. I just loved the rawness of these boats and the colours after such long exposure to the elements.

Even though it wasn't the ideal sunset I was looking for in Collingwood with the silos, it was still nice and dramatic with the low misty clouds on the Blue Mountains in the background.

No April foolin' here, this is one of my favourite places to hang out.

Some of the best stars I've ever seen on a quiet September night at Dock Siding.

Went sunset hunting today. Found this nice one in Glenorchy Conservation Area. Just caught the sun behind the trees

Winter tree. Do the trees feels the cold of winter?

T dot as is Tamworth, not Toronto!

I had a crazy it’s for a sunrise shot, so I snuck out to this little spot in the middle of nowhere early morning.

With Noranda-bound tonnage in tow, Ontario Northland's gorgeous heritage unit rounds the bend at Boston Creek in the pouring rain. The chase is on.

Spring has started and soon this tree will be leafy again.

Out for a night time sail. A perfect summer night for a sail.

Fun with snowy owls. A bright sunny day and the snowy owl was out and eating a duck it had caught. Feathers were flying as she/he ripped it apart. Owl had quite the menu of ducks to choose from.

On this July 1st most of us can wake up knowing where we are coming home to, unlike those people of Lytton, BC who last night lost their homes and town in a tragic fire. Gone in minutes, before some could even get their thoughts in order, let alone their important and prized possessions.

My heart hurts for those who have no idea where to go or what to do next.

This image is a calm, serene image of the West Coast of BC that hopefully will bring some sort of calmness to all this uncertainty this Canada Day brings for many.

It was a nice warm evening to be out on the water to do a bit of dragon boat paddling.

I was on the hunt for these grey herons at a local flood pond near my home. I wasn't disappointed. This one put on a nice show for me. Just a beautiful wingspan. It was also dive bombed by those pesky red winged blackbirds.

You don't always have to have the Milky Way in a night-scape. The rest of the stars shine too!

Never tire of these beautiful sunsets.

Another month, another full moon. This is the Harvest Moon.

A beautiful and peaceful winter evening after the frequent hustle and bustle of the holiday season.

Don't you wish you could fly? Turkey vulture riding the warm air currents. The clouds on this day were huge and billowy. #turkeyvulture #vulture #bird #audobonsociety #birdwatching #soaring #clouds #sky #nikon #nikncanada #imagesofcanada #nature #weather

I love these dramatic skies. It was cold by the water and the wind made it feel colder. Went looking for birds and was not disappointed. The people you see on the right side are all taking pictures of the owl that was on the dock eating a duck.

This is probably a lucky 'catch'. This old home will not be standing for much longer.

Wandering the street of Toronto. Did the Queen Street route. So much to see.

I wanted to try something a little different than a usual post and I thought this was a good first attempt at "different". Halifax waterfront, Nova Scotia

This composite was captured on 2021-11-17 between 4:28MT and 4:43MT. Each image taken 3 minutes apart. Although the moon 'looks' large it is only slightly larger than a Micromoon. Distance from earth 402,147.405 km.

The two extreme points of the Moon’s orbit each month are known as the lunar perigee (closest approach) and apogee (farthest apart).

A Supermoon: A Full Moon that occurs when the center of the Moon is less than 360,000 kilometers from the center of Earth.

A Micromoon: A Full Moon that occurs when the center of the Moon is farther than 405,000 kilometers from the center of Earth.

A Super Full Moon's angular size is 12.5% to14.1% bigger than a Micro Full Moon, and 5.9% to 6.9% bigger than an average Full Moon.

Image details: captured with a fully modified Canon EOSR, 100-400mm lens with 2X Extender at 500mm, 720nm IR cut filter.

Airglow phenomenon - 2023-06-23

Images captured during our Milky Way Workshop from Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park.

Airglow (also called nightglow) is a faint emission of light by a planetary atmosphere. Airglow is caused by various processes in the upper atmosphere of Earth such as, luminescence caused by cosmic rays striking the upper atmosphere, and chemiluminescence caused mainly by oxygen and nitrogen reacting with hydroxyl free radicals at heights of a few hundred kilometres. It renders as blue or green wisps or rays on images.

This image is a stack of 9 * 20 seconds. The rays are less pronounced as the stacking process mutes them. The details in the milky way core are much clearer than the single exposure.

Typical winter this year. Warmer than usual and no sun for many days.

The winds at Upper Waterton Lake had reportedly reached 45 km/h that day. It was really exciting to watch the dramatic changing light as it hit the peaks. This view of Vimy Peak was taken from the Prince of Wales Hotel.

Waterton Lakes National Park is nestled in the Canadian Rockies. Given the designation of International Peace Park it is one of the lesser known parks in Alberta but the scenery is outstanding, hiking is world renowned, and wildlife are in abundance. This past August, Waterton Lakes National Park and its neighbour to the south, Glacier National Park, received a designation for an International Dark Sky Park.

Frozen. It's still cold, where is spring? Even seagulls don't want to go into the cold water.

Winter Wonderland

Morning temps ranged from -32C with no wind to -26C with howling wind.

Captured along the Icefields Parkway Highway (93), Jasper National Park. Infrared image using a fully modified Canon EOSR and an 830nm filter.

The day was absolutely clear and crisp. Never have I seen the mountains this magnificent.

Sunrise reflected on the water

This is the moon of the turning white season (frost). This moon brings the first frost. The leaves lose their colours and turn pale. Deer hunting is the activity during this moon. The earth is cooling down and the people turn their efforts to hunting.

Composite image captured in Infrared on 2021-10-18 as it rose about the Cypress Hills. IR allows all the details and contrast of the moon to be 'seen', even through the thin cloud cover.
