The Waterfall of the Gods, Viking cruise excursion, Northern Iceland's Natural Treasures
Goðafoss translates from modern Icelandic as "the waterfall of the gods", a nickname said to come from a myth from Iceland's history. According to legend, after converting the country to Christianity, Þorgeir Ljósvetningagoði (one of the main rulers of the island at that time) threw all his pagan idols into the waterfall, thus changing the Viking gods for the Christian god.

Many of the rock names have been used for over a hundred years. Some fanciful names may have been invented by the Rocks House caretakers in their efforts to amuse visitors. Some appear to have been inspired by antiquarians who adhered to Druidical theories about their origins. Just a few names, such as the Noonstone whose shadow indicated midday, and old local names, Great Cannon and Little Cannon (now the Smartie Tube), may come from an earlier tradition. In his 1786 lecture, Some account of the Brimham rocks in Yorkshire, Hayman Rooke mentions the Idol Rock, the Great Cannon, and the Noonstone next to which a fire was lit on Midsummer Eve. The Zbruch River formed the boundary between the Russian Empire and the Austro-Hungarian Empire up to the end of World War I. The river changed course slightly at one point, and in the place where the river had departed, in 1848 they found a statue that is now known as the Zbruch Idol. This happened just outside of Личківці (Lychkivtsi), a small village in Ternopil oblast that just happens to be where my grandmother was born. Last year, I bought this wooden carving that replicates the idol, the original of which is at a museum in Rzeszow, Poland.
The most commonly held theory is that the idol represents Sviatovid, a pre-Christian pagan Slavic god of abundance and war. Ukraine has an abundance of good land and wheat, and now they have war, so it seemed appropriate to show this picture of him.
I had run out of Polaroid Blue by the time I took this (actually, I had one shot left, but it came out waaaay underexposed), so the top here is shot with One Instant Color film, which has a blue cast.
Ukraine needs help. Razom for Ukraine is a reputable charity that started when Ukrainian-Americans wanted to help Ukraine during the 2014 Revolution of Dignity. They send humanitarian aid to Ukraine, including medicine, hospital supplies, and communications equipment. You can find them at razomforukraine.org/ .
Ganeshchaturthi is a festival celebrate in India. Its been celebrate as birth anniversary for lord Ganesha where people work-ship by keeping idol for a week or ten days an do poojas for lord Ganesha, then finally they do immersion for lord ganesha in sea as a sending off ceremony. From the Tell Brak site in northern Syria on display behind glass in the Fitzwilliam museum in Cambridge. Most eye-idols are made from fine Gypsum (Alabaster) which is porous so it changes colour easily. Rare examples in animal bone also exist. Unlike spectacle idols, eye idols do not seem to have been made in clay. Paint to emphasise the eyes is an additional detail. Syria

Subject
Lately I got an assignment in Cembra as social-media partner for an event. Cembra is a lovely, little town placed in the namesake valley not too far from Trento, in Northern Italy. Strolling through its streets I have found this very nice composition, which style is between paganism and rural art. If every altar in the world were of this kind, there would be very few problems for human race, but this is just my personal opinion.
