London has two "high rise" districts, Canary Wharf, the new boy on the block out in East London, and what's called "the square mile", near the Bank of England, which is the old financial district of London and is still very vibrant today and continues to accrue some interesting new architecture. Here we see three of these iconic buildings from the square mile area - on the left, 52 Lime Street, called the Scalpel, in the centre, the Willis building, and on the right the Richard Rogers designed Lloyds building, the most well known and the oldest by quite some margin, having opened in 1985.
It would be interesting to know how many times the Lloyds building has been photographed. I know that i personally have added substantially to that sum as it's a building that I love to shoot, there's so much interesting detail.
Also called Bibliothèque de François Mitterrand as this was one of the iconic architectural projects of this french president.
I'll bet these are two of the most photographed building in the Old Town area of Stockholm. This is my version. Severely straightened and processed with textures.

The iconic house on the way to Molson Washington. I'm sure there must be hundreds of pictures of this house with as many compositions. My favourite one is the one with a cougar sitting on the porch, appearing to be looking at the photographer.

Aurora Borealis over Holmsberg Lighthouse, Keflavik, Iceland
WOW, WOW, WOW!!!
It's not often I start a post with the words Wow, Wow, Wow, however last night's aurora display was absolutely magical, so much so that I even filmed it on my Canon R5, which I have included in the first comment box below.
I arrived in Iceland yesterday afternoon, a day ahead of two photo workshops that I shall be running (the first which starts today) and I had an hour or two last night to drive around the Keflavik area (which is an airport town full of artificial lights which hamper shooting auroras). The clouds made an appearance, bringing with them a little light rain but when they cleared, I felt that there was a chance of perhaps seeing the northern lights.
I ventured out to the end of the peninsula to the iconic Garðskagaviti Lighthouse and the Garður Old Lighthouse but there were heavily visited by tourists also looking for the aurora so I left them to it and I then remembered a lovely little orange lighthouse that I visited around four years ago while scouting out the area for interesting subjects to shoot. So, I drove down the road, parked up the minibus and wandered over to the orange lighthouse.
It is quite boggy and marshland in places so while choosing my position carefully, I just happened to look up and WOW, the aurora was out in full force. You will rarely see me move quicker to get into position and set up (unless I happen to be in a coffee shop where a beautifully crafted latte and a piece of chocolate cake is on offer, lol) and within two minutes, I was shooting this scene. Geez, it felt great to be shooting the aurora again. I never lose the excitement in shooting the dancing green lights in the sky.
Anyhow, fingers crossed my twelve lovely clients on both upcoming workshops also get to experience the aurora for themselves because I know that they will be amazed, just like I always am.

It was good to finally re-visit Middlesbrough, a place I last called at almost 47 years ago in 1976. Of course no surprise the industrial landscape and dockyard backdrop of the 1970s was somewhat different this time around.
At the time of the first visit my knowledge of the area was as good as non-existent, so this view featuring the Transporter Bridge as a backdrop to the railway wasn't on the 'shots to be done' list - but then again nor were any others.
This time around I made no mistake, did my homework, and happily made the 0.6 mile or so walk from the station in gloriously good weather to what is presumably called Metz Bridge for the classic shot. Luckily a freight was running too and this image features DRS 'Shed' 66108 hauling the 11.29am Redcar BSC - Doncaster Up Decoy (6D73) engineers' train. Thus the icon was finally captured - and I don't mean the 'Shed'.

Vintage, rustic-style entrance sign on Highway 61 at Gooseberry Falls State Park. This sign is one of my earliest memories of the North Shore.
The park is located in Castle Danger, about ten miles north of Two Harbors, Minnesota on the North Shore of Lake Superior. It is one of Minnesota's most popular and treasured state parks.
It was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the late 1930's/early 1940's as part of the New Deal getting men back to work during the Great Depression. There are several awesome historic buildings here along with lots of trails, many feet of rocky Lake Superior shoreline, a campground (book a year ahead of time for summer camping!), an awesome picnic area with CCC-built tables still in place and lots more.
It's a "must stop" place if you are going anywhere on the North Shore.
An early morning image of the iconic T.A. Moulton barn in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming USA. with the majestic Teton mountain range in the background. The barn is all that remains of the homestead which T.A. Mouton and his sons built between 1912 and 1945. This is said to be the most photographed barn in the USA, and the reason why is pretty obvious.
The Bixby Bridge is one of the most photographed bridges in the country. It is located about 15 miles south of Carmel, California along the Big Sur.

The wonderful iconic Wellington Cable Car. The sky was a fabulous colour but I decided to try and do selective colour process to show off the car.
The morning was looking very fall-ish with mist in the woods, leaves on the ground, and shades of orange.
Another view of the icon of Stourhead the Palladian bridge and The Pantheon (Temple of Hercules). Wander around these lovely National Trust owned grounds at any time of the year but for me the autumn colours make for a splendid walk and photo opportunity of course.
The Serin's song is unmistakable. It usually stands in top of pine trees (or other trees as well) while he sings.

This is probably the most photographed barn in Washington State
Admittedly not the iconic shot that has eluded me through the years. For all the time that I have been in the area, I've not been around town at a time when the sign was in "all it's glory" with rig and tripod at hand...
I took this several years ago near Yellowstone National Park. The Grand Teton Mountain Range is in the background.
It is a composite of two images, one, a texture, by Distressed Jewel, and the other, the original photo.
