Meet Lucky Bob, a cat that was rescued and brought to the barn a little over a month ago. He was basically skin and bones when he was rescued and over the last few weeks has improved. Unfortunately I and the person who rescued him started noticing he was having more trouble eating and when he was checked out it was found that he had a growth on his tongue that was interfering with his eating and drinking. Because it is believed to be cancerous tumor he is going to be going to kitty heaven very soon. Over the weekend my roommates and I had the wonderful honor and privilege of getting to know him and keeping him warm. It breaks my heart to say good bye but I know he's going to a better place and will be pain free.
I debated on sharing this with you because I wasn't the one who found him or brought him to the barn. But I decided to because I want you all to know who he is and that he has a story and he is important. And because he was so sweet and so loving that if it wasn't for this growth he could have found a home easily. There are hundreds of thousands of strays out there who are just like him and without good people to rescue them they go unthought of and uncared for. Please next time you see a stray animal, no matter who they are, at least give them food and water and make sure they're ok. No one deserves to be passed over, and that includes all species (humans too). Adopt don't shop, spay and neuter, and in general treat the world as you want it to be.
I wasn't the one who rescued him and unfortunately all I could do was give him a warm place for the weekend and I have to remind myself that sometimes that is all any of us can do. I know I cannot save them all but that doesn't mean I can't try, and that goes for every single one of you.
