A CELEBRATION OF INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY
“So I am not a broken heart.
I am not the weight I lost or miles I ran and I am not the way I slept on my doorstep under the bare sky in smell of tears and whisky because my apartment was empty and if I were to be this empty I wanted something solid to sleep on. Like concrete.
I am not this year and I am not your fault.
I am muscles building cells, a little every day, because they broke that day, but bones are stronger once they heal and I am smiling to the bus driver and replacing my groceries once a week and I am not sitting for hours in the shower anymore.
I am the way a life unfolds and blooms and seasons come and go and I am the way the Spring always finds a way to turn even the coldest Winter into a field of green and flowers and new life.
I am not your fault.”

WHO KNOWS WHERE THE TIMES GOES – SANDY DENNY & FAIRPORT CONVENTION
I long to hear the blackbird speak
forget old man Winter's icy grip
fold away my Winter clothes
put on lighter shoes; the pages flip
as my diary turns to warmer thoughts
and dreams of sunny days ahead
blossoms hanging drowsily
bowing and nodding their sleepy heads
already the daffodils and crocuses
pop up and greet me in the morn
even little daisies begin to smatter
and scatter with other wildflowers on the lawns
sparrows dart from tree to tree
excited and happy they chirrup and bring
a light-hearted feeling to my Winter soul
a Spring in my step that makes my heart sing
and breathe; enjoy all things beautiful
capture imagination and bottle it
keep it safe until next Winter comes
take it down from the shelf and take a sip
I am sure it will see me through the many
cold, wet and windy Winter's yet to come
if I just keep topping up the best of memories
the warm ones; the loving ones filled with sun
it may seem such a romantic notion
the gathering of this romantic potion
but just a little will last through the seasons
a touch of goodness; a balm-like lotion
if I could do it I would you know
and I would give you a bottle each
set them sail like vessels on the ocean
perpetual sunshine within easy reach
so if you are ever wandering along the sea line
stop to look between the shells and seaweed
you never know you may find some treasure
a bottle of love and sunshine is most all we need
but don't get me wrong, I love the rain
I embrace the snow and the cold
but sometimes my bones ache for the warmth of the sun
to seep through and steep my heart and soul
in the Summer I'll moan if it's too hot
in the Winter I'll moan if it blows too cold
like Goldilocks and her porridge I would like it just so
but nothing is perfect; I know that of old
so I hug to me the slight imperfections
that make up the whole of me
and I hug all the ones I happen across
and give thanks for such wonderful serendipity.

Even though IWD has passed, the spotlights on Edmonton House and Fairmont Macdonald were purple and pink tonight. Sort of a redo of last night because the spotlights were covered in snow yesterday, resulting in a dim appearance.

One of the multiples hidden side of fashion stands in the real work of models: waiting, changing, speeding, changing again, being in a rush, being exhausted, being melancholic, being strong. And starting over.
To all women workers.

Courage to Question, a four-part virtual reality series about women’s rights activists from around the world. Produced by Google in collaboration with UN Women.
The activists:
Now pardoned and free after 21 years of confinement, Alice Johnson discusses her wrenching experience as a mother behind bars, the impact of mass incarceration on women, and why she fights for the women she left behind.
Lydia Cacho shares her experience as a Mexican journalist, author, and human rights activist who, despite receiving multiple threats to her safety and life over the years, fights tirelessly to tell the stories of women and girls who have been trafficked.
Asha Kowtal—General Secretary of the Dalit Women’s Rights movement in India—walks us through a day in the life of Dalit women. Formerly known as “untouchables,” they’re members of the lowest caste in India and are fighting back against systems of oppression.
Chief Theresa Kachindamoto of the Dedza District in the central region of Malawi shares the story of her upbringing, the practice of child marriage in her country, and her fight to eradicate it.

My balloon is the symbol of women solidarity and peace. We are stronger together in SADA Centre” said Sona, a 32-year-old Syrian refugee woman who attends livelihood skills courses at the SADA Women Empowerment and Solidarity Center in Gaziantep, along Turkey’s border with Syria. 400 Turkish, Syrian, Afghani and Iraqi women from the SADA Centre commemorated International Women’s Day by sharing their thoughts and hopes for the future. They also learned more about gender equality by taking quizzes. Women and their children flew balloons up into the sky as a symbol for women’s solidarity and peace. The Centre is run in partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO), the Association for Solidarity with Asylum Seekers and Migrants (SGDD-ASAM), and the Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, with financial contribution from the European Union Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian Crisis, the MADAD Fund, and the Government of Japan.

UN Women in Albania, in partnership with the Albanian National Center of Cinematography, organized the first “Women International Film Festival”, focusing on gender-based violence. The event started on the 8 March to mark International Women’s Day and continued for four days until 11 March. A variety of documentaries, long and short movies by various international and national filmmakers, were shown free of charge for the audience at Millennium Cinema in capital Tirana. The festival gave the opportunity to the public to see and reflect on the deeply rooted inequalities in the roles, rights and opportunities of men and women, attitudes and social norms that normalize gender-based violence, and the way these are manifested differently in various countries. 1 in 2 women in Albania experience at least one form of violence in their lifetime, including physical, psychological or sexual violence. This pandemic devastates lives, causes untold pain and suffering. The program of the Festival included features from Germany, Kosovo[1], Slovenia, Ireland and the US. The program has been supported by Goethe Institute, the Slovenian Embassy, the US Embassy in Tirana, and the Irish Embassy in Athens. The Festival has been also supported by Intesa San Paolo Bank in Albania.
