It truly is a magnificent sculpture which, if you get the chance, to see it for yourself. The vision and workmanship is outstanding. It's incredible from any angle. The up-lighting is delightful, although I only got to see a few moments.

Rachel Webb, whose son Tom was 22 years old when he was stabbed and killed in St Peter's Street, Derby, by a 16 year old boy in January 2016, has been instrumental in bringing the Angel to Derby. She supported a knife surrender held across Derbyshire and knives from this were donated towards the creation of this sculpture.

The knife Angel has been created as a National monument against violence and aggression at the British Ironworks Centre in Oswestry and is a memorial to those whose lives have been affected by knife crime. It is a 27ft high sculpture, which Alfie Bradley has designed and created single-handedly using over 100,000 knives surrendered and collected in nationwide amnesties in 2015/2016. The angel began it's tour around the UK in 2018 when it was housed outside of Liverpool Cathedral for December and January in order to raise awareness of the impact of knife crime on society, the victims and their families and friends.

It is currently on a city tour of the UK.

Knife crime is rising across the country. The Knife Angel's presence in derby is very much a symbol of the hard work of partners and communities across Derbyshire to halt this rise.

Derbyshire Police are spearheading a multi agency campaign called Project Zao, which aims to prevent causalities and stop venerable youngsters from seeing violence as the answer. It targets those who carry knives and delivers a hard hitting educational package to thousands of young people across the county.

All 43 national police forces, the Home Office, anti-violence groups across the UK and hundreds of families who have been affected by knife crime are all strongly supporting the Knife Angel. Relatives of those killed by knife crime were invited to engrave the blades with names and messages for their loved ones as part of the sculpture.

The Knife Angel is a symbol of defiance and change, shining a spotlight on Britain's knife crime problem and its impact on communities, families and individuals.

The Angel; is helping to raise awareness of violent crime and helping young people understand the reasons not to carry knives.

It truly is a magnificent sculpture which, if you get the chance, to see it for yourself. The vision and workmanship is outstanding. It's incredible from any angle. The up-lighting is delightful, although I only managed to see this effect for a few moments.

Having returned to the Tower of London today to see the 'Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red' installation again before 11000 volunteers start dismantling it tomorrow, I happened to catch Mary Nightingale from the ITV News interviewing the Poppy creator and man of the moment, Paul Cummins.

From Wikipedia "He conceived the monumental installation at the Tower of London in collaboration with Tom Piper. Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red commemorated British losses in the First World War with 888,246 ceramic poppies. This art installation was realised by set designer Tom Piper whilst Cummins and a number of assistants in Derbyshire made the flowers. Cummins was himself seriously injured while creating this work, crushing his hand in an industrial roller. This left him requiring extensive surgery and resulted in the loss of a finger and use of his dominant hand."

It was an absolute privilege to attend Armistice 100 at the National Memorial Arboretum this centenary year to mark 100 years since the signing of The Armistice. 1918 - 2018. Despite a rainy start, the sun came out to shine on all the veterans, royalty, invited guests and the general public. It was reported that there were 20,000 people over the course of the whole day.

The gas and electricity outage in Caddington continues. Some homes in the village have gas, some has electricity, some have both, some have neither. A real mixed bag. Our gas is still out but at least we have electricity. An eerie silence decended on the village last night with further power cuts. The emergency rest centres have been open 24 hours a day for the last few days and have done a great job.

Meanwhile, the snowy weather continues to hamper the army of men busy working away down numerous holes scattered around the village

One from the past I forgot I had. Picture of me filming for ITV Central News in the Gulf in September / October 1991. The war was over, but we had to wear these anti-burn suits for a massive naval exercise involving lots of ships. I was the reporter, not the cameraman. I remember that camera actually got disabled for a while when that Gatling gun in the background went off and made an incredible noise. We filmed for a number of days on board HMS Birmingham, HMS Coventry and HMS Glasgow.

National coverage of Armistice Day (Armistice 100) at the National Memorial Arboretum, Alrewas, Staffordshire, for the ITN Network. ITV News, Channel 4 News and 5 News.

Lest we forget...

National media interest in the operation.

Police have arrested 25 people so far after synchronised raids this morning, Tuesday 5 October 2010.

Shortly after 6am, nearly 500 officers from the North Manchester Division and other divisions across GMP, officers from the Specialist Operations Branch, including Tactical Firearms Officers and the Dog Unit carried out 30 warrants across Greater Manchester.

Twenty-five people aged between 17 and 47 years old from the Cheetham Hill, Crumpsall, Prestwich, Whitefield and Broughton areas were arrested on suspicion of various drug related offences.

Quantities of drugs and cash have been seized during the house searches.

Officers will remain in the area throughout the next two weeks to provide reassurance to the local community and to support anyone affected by today's action.

Drug support workers will also be in the area to provide support to anyone affected by the raids.

Also, the 'Have Your Say' van will be outside the Cheetham Hill Police Station over the next couple of days if any local residents want to speak to officers.

A number of special constables from Greater Manchester Police and Cheshire Constabulary have taken a day off their usual work to assist with the operation.

Chief Superintendent Caroline Ball said: "These raids are the result of us talking to the community and listening to their concerns about the sale and use of drugs in the area.

"This operation has been carefully planned to cause as much disruption as possible and we could not have done this without the community's information and support, so for this I want to say thank-you.

"We take the issue of drugs extremely seriously and understand the impact they can have on individuals and the community as a whole, as addicts turn to crimes such as burglary and robbery to fund their habit.

"Today's action has been about removing those who feel it is acceptable to openly deal drugs in an area predominantly made up of families and blight their lives.

"We are committed to tackling drugs in the area, but we need the communities to work with us, to provide the information we need to catch those responsible and make them face justice for their behaviour.

"While the raids are nearly finished, there will continue to be a large presence of officers in the area to listen to any concerns local residents may have. Members of the community can also contact the neighbourhood policing team by phone, email or simply calling into their local station."

Anyone with information on the sale or use of drugs in their community should call the local neighbourhood policing team, or call the independent charity Crimestoppers , anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Shots from Gas Street in Birmingham.

Rain had stopped by then. Mostly slushy ice on the pavements now.

I found where on Gas Street ITV are based (ITV Central).

Quite a few old buildings down here from the early 19th century.

This is the building that ITV Central broadcasts from - stuff like Central Tonight and Central News.

The building is called Central Court and was opened in 1995.

An ITV News van. Sure I've seen ones like this near the crown court on Dalton Street.
