Our local parks finally opened up this week, after months of (COVID-19) closures. I was lucky enough to spot a family of Egyptian Geese... So here's Junior ; )
Native to Africa, this goose is popular in zoos and aviaries. Escaped birds have established wild populations in Florida, Texas, and California.
The Egyptian goose is a member of the duck, goose, and swan family. It is native to Africa, south of the Sahara, and the Nile Valley. Egyptian geese were considered sacred by the Ancient Egyptians and appeared in much of their artwork.
This is a largely terrestrial species, which will also perch readily on trees and buildings. Egyptian geese typically eat seeds, leaves, grasses, and plant stems. Occasionally, they will eat locusts, worms, or other small animals.
Until the goslings are a few weeks old, and strong enough to graze, they feed largely on small aquatic invertebrates, especially freshwater plankton.

I'd had a great time spending a pristine morning up next to the lake, watching a company of shorebirds that included Yellowlegs, Mallards, Wigeons, Scaups, and of course, Gulls.
It was spring. These birds were exhibiting some remarkable interactive behaviors as well as creating a constant chorus of birdsongs that echoed out across the lake.
I sat, enthralled, and snapping away. I am happy that I was able to capture images that celebrate nature's small wonder.

As recently as the 1940s, this graceful hawk was considered rare and endangered in North America, restricted to a few sites in California and Texas. In recent decades, it has increased greatly in numbers and spread into many new areas.
It is often seen hovering on rapidly beating wings over open fields, looking for small rodents, its main food source.
The introduction of the house mouse from Europe may have played a part in its increase; formerly, the kite fed almost entirely
on voles.
