Yellow is the new red....for today, anyway 😊💛❤️

The Grot is a small, picturesque building or viewing station located on the grounds of Rydal Hall in the Lake District, overlooking a waterfall.

It was built in 1668 by Sir Daniel Fleming and designed as a place to frame and enjoy the spectacular Rydal Falls, reflecting the Romantic and Picturesque movements in art and literature.

The poet William Wordsworth, who lived nearby at Rydal Mount, was a tenant on the Rydal Estate and was familiar with the Grot and the grounds of Rydal Hall.

We have lots of this colourful and interestingly shaped plant in one of our flower beds. It's flowering much more this year.

Tucked away in the rugged terrain, the Mosedale Beck waterfall cuts through dark crags into a beautifully clear, emerald pool below. The overcast skies provided the perfect soft, diffused light to capture the vibrant greens of the ferns, mosses, and gorse clinging to the rocky banks. There is a raw, untamed energy to this corner of the fells that always draws me back.

Deep in the heart of Wasdale, Cumbria, lies the enchanting Ritson's Force. Sheltered by a dense canopy of ancient trees and vibrant ferns, the rushing waters cascade over dark, rugged crags into a clear, boulder-strewn pool below. Capturing this scene required balancing the bright, rushing white water against the deep, rich tones of the Lakeland woodland, showcasing the raw and serene beauty of the Lake District's lesser-explored corners.

The stream flowing over the waterfall is Aira Beck, which rises on the upper slopes of Stybarrow Dodd at a height of 720 metres (2,362 ft) and flows north-easterly before turning south, blocked by the high heather-covered slopes of Gowbarrow Fell. It turns south on its eight-kilometre journey to join Ullswater, at a height of 150 metres (492 ft). One kilometre before entering the lake, the beck makes the 20 metres (66 ft) leap down a rocky and steep sided ravine at the falls known as Aira Force. The water falls approximately 22 metres (72 ft) to a rocky pool, from where the beck continues through a shallow valley to the lake

FRANCE 2018

Earlier this year we took a wonderful trip to France. We stayed in a small seaside town called Wimereux, between Calais and Boulogne. It was a lovely place, great food, beach and people. We enjoyed the break very much and I took a few photos. Here are a few of them………..

The Pinakothek der Moderne is a modern art museum, situated in the city centre of Munich, Germany. Together with the Alte Pinakothek and the Neue Pinakothek it is part of Munich's "Kunstareal" (the "art district").

Designed by the German Architect Stephan Braunfels, the Pinakothek der Moderne was inaugurated in September 2002 after seven years of construction. The rectilinear facade, dominated by white and grey concrete, is interrupted by large windows and highrising columns, the latter supporting the extensive canopied roof. Each of the four corners of the building, connected by a central rotunda, is dedicated to a special collection. The Museum is thus divided into Art (Kunst), Architecture (Architektur), Design (Design) and Works on Paper (Graphik).

Captured this serene scene along the historic Bridgewater Canal. In the foreground, the vibrant colors of the narrowboat Bulrush catch the sunlight, complete with its modern solar panels. In the background stands the iconic brick archway of Queen Victoria's boat house, a beautiful nod to the rich heritage of this iconic British waterway. The lush green trees and calm, murky waters perfectly encapsulate a classic English summer afternoon.

This image explores the rich visual textures of the UK's historic inland waterways, focusing on the iconic dry docks at Worsley. The imagery highlights the architectural contrast of the weathered, monochrome timber sheds against the vibrant, traditional livery of the narrowboats. Central to the narrative is the unique environmental character of the canal itself—its famous iron-rich, orange waters acting as a direct physical link to the subterranean coal mining history of the region. The series aims to preserve the color, craftsmanship, and quiet endurance of British industrial heritage.

View On Black for the large size

The weather this week has been amazing: temperature at a very pleasant 23/24 (73/74), sunshine and total blue skies for three days in a row. I spent a couple of hours yesterday sitting by the pool and soaking it all up. Some of you might recognise the chair(s) from London as I've photographed them before but never with a swimming pool behind them! :-))

A vibrant lineup of traditional narrowboats moored along the Leeds & Liverpool Canal. I loved how the repetitive angles of the bows create a natural sense of depth, while the mismatched canvas covers, weathered hulls, and tiny details—like the potted plants on deck—tell a story of life on the water. The calm surface offered some beautiful, soft reflections of the bright colors.
