Many of the rock names have been used for over a hundred years. Some fanciful names may have been invented by the Rocks House caretakers in their efforts to amuse visitors. Some appear to have been inspired by antiquarians who adhered to Druidical theories about their origins. Just a few names, such as the Noonstone whose shadow indicated midday, and old local names, Great Cannon and Little Cannon (now the Smartie Tube), may come from an earlier tradition. In his 1786 lecture, Some account of the Brimham rocks in Yorkshire, Hayman Rooke mentions the Idol Rock, the Great Cannon, and the Noonstone next to which a fire was lit on Midsummer Eve. Kristin came over tonight to hang out and watch American Idol with me. She even brought props! Well okay, the microphone I had but she brought the hilarious fake teeth. We had fun with them and fun watching the show!
I think I could easily pass for one of the contestants from Birmingham, don't you think?
Oh, oh, oh... and before all of that we went to Perkins and the freakiest thing happened. Neither one of us took pictures of our food. I KNOW! I'm worried I may be getting ill.

Actually this was an impromptu Indiana Jones post at first, hence the idol, but I changed it at the last minute. This got some inspiration from the new Indy Lego sets, they bring back fond memories of the old ones.

I dragged myself out of bed so that I could listen to this in the surround sound in my living room. Yes I am an electronic/gadget junkie... I have an High Def (HD) tv, surround sound, and HD Dish box.

The Zbruch River formed the boundary between the Russian Empire and the Austro-Hungarian Empire up to the end of World War I. The river changed course slightly at one point, and in the place where the river had departed, in 1848 they found a statue that is now known as the Zbruch Idol. This happened just outside of Личківці (Lychkivtsi), a small village in Ternopil oblast that just happens to be where my grandmother was born. Last year, I bought this wooden carving that replicates the idol, the original of which is at a museum in Rzeszow, Poland.
The most commonly held theory is that the idol represents Sviatovid, a pre-Christian pagan Slavic god of abundance and war. Ukraine has an abundance of good land and wheat, and now they have war, so it seemed appropriate to show this picture of him.
I had run out of Polaroid Blue by the time I took this (actually, I had one shot left, but it came out waaaay underexposed), so the top here is shot with One Instant Color film, which has a blue cast.
Ukraine needs help. Razom for Ukraine is a reputable charity that started when Ukrainian-Americans wanted to help Ukraine during the 2014 Revolution of Dignity.
