IC 1274 is an emission nebula in the Sagittarius constellation, around 6000 light years from earth.
The region is essentially an HII region where star formation is running rampant. In plain English, think of it as a large cloud of hydrogen gas where vast amounts of new stars are forming within it. Because there's ample hydrogen present, a good amount of these stars will grow quite massive. Besides being fun to look at (bright blue stars across a colourful region, what's not to like), they also have a profound effect on their surroundings. The long streaks/lines that you can see within the nebula (like elongated clouds if you will) are essentially their doing (effect of their massive energy output).

IC2944 is an emission nebula in the Centaurus constellation, around 6500 light years from earth.
Something that immediately stands out in the image, is the small (although small is still relative here obviously) dark patches in the center. These are what we call bok globules. So what does that mean?
These are essentially very dense pockets of gas/dust giving birth to new star(s) in their center. As is very common in these large star forming regions, its massive inhabitants (typically violent O-type stars) will shape the surroundings by "blowing" apart the gas cloud with their intense stellar winds. These bok globules are the remnants that are just about able to withstand this process and continue star formation.

IC 1504, IC 1506 and CN 4100 sit at Southern Yard in Welland Ontario waiting on a lift to Port Robinson to make the connection to Mac Yard and then Sarnia.
These units were sold to a scrap company before being resold to LDS in Sarnia to avoid the torch and get a new lease on life.
IC 6251 leads R922 up the grade at Proctor hill in some killer evening light. I was at the A&W in Superior when my friend messaged me that 6251 was leading a train off the docks, I had more food coming but I ran up to the cashier, paid and bolted out. Once I got to the bridge I made it with seconds to spare as I could already hear the EMD rumble.

Ten years ago I wouldn't have believed that I will be able to take a picture of an 1142 pulling an Intercity train in 2023.
...Vergangenen Sommer sollte es Mal ins Allgäu gehen. Eins der Ziele dabei war der IC2012 aus Oberstdorf nach Dortmund Hbf. Bei Martinszell konnte der Zug bespannt mit 218 476 und 218 456 kurz vor dem nächsten halt Kempten (Allgäu) Hbf abgelichtet werden. Kurz darauf folgte der EC191 mit 218 430. Diese Relation läuft jedoch anders als der IC nicht mehr über die Allgäubahn, sondern via Memmingen. Und auch die 218 hat vor den EC ausgedient, ersetzt wurde sie durch SBB ETR610

Een plaatje van onderhand al vier en een half jaar geleden: op 2 april 2017 was ik toevallig op station Amsterdam, dus konden er een paar plaatjes worden gemaakt.
Het DDM-1 materieel reed toen nog in die regio, en 's middags om half vier was het loc 1778 die met haar stam 7202 het Amsterdamse binnen kwam lopen. Nadeel van veel in Noord-Holland rijden is dat de stammen en locs al snel besmeurd worden met graffiti...

IC 2037 Norddeich Mole - Leipzig Hbf
Am heutigen Tag wurden 101 112 und 101 119 zum Bender nach Opladen überführt. Das ist Grund genug, um mal wieder ein Bild der aktuell noch allgegenwärtigen Fernverkehrslok zu zeigen, von der man sich in den nächsten Jahren vermutlich auch weitesgehend verabschieden muss.
Im Februar dieses Jahres wurden ersatzweise mal wieder einige ICs auf der "Bremer Schiene" mit Flachparks gefahren. Einer davon war InterCity 2037, der die Nordseeküste mit Sachsen verbindet. Einige Male konnte ich diesen Zug mit der "CEWE" 101 als Zuglok aufnehmen, so auch am Vormittag des 21.02. , als der Zug bei Dörverden an unseren Linsen vorbeifuhr.

IC 2415 Fehmarn-Burg - Hamburg Hbf
Am 18. April 2022 ergab sich am Nachmittag die Möglichkeit nochmal den Fehmarn-Intercity fotografisch festzuhalten. Bisher hatte ich den Nachmittagsumlauf eher wenig Beachtung geschenkt. Dies hatte verschiedene Gründe. Unter anderem der problematische Straßenverkehr auf der Autobahn 1 in Richtung Norden bedingt durch eine längere Baustelle in den letzten Jahren. Am Ostermontag sollte es aber den ganzen Tag in Richtung Ostsee gehen. Nachdem am Morgen der erste Umlauf des Fehmarn-IC einmal und der Strandexpress zweimal eingetütet werden konnte, ging es am für die Rückleistung der orientroten 218 402-6 zu einer Fotostelle, die ich bisher auch noch nicht umgesetzt hatte. Ziemlich pünktlich rollte dann auch der anvisierte IC 2415 zwischen Oldenburg in Holstein und Lehnsan bei Grüner Hirsch in Richtung Süden. Nach dem Foto ging es fix zum Auto zurück und hinterher nach Ratekau. Dort konnte der Zug ein weiteres Mal abgelichtet werden. Somit konnte ich an diesem Tag gleich zwei Fotostellen von der ToDo-Liste streichen bevor dann in naher Zukunft der Zugverkehr auf diesem Streckenabschnitt komplett im Zuge des Ausbaus der festen Fehmarnbelt Querung zwischen Dänemark und Deutschland zum Erliegen kommt.
Ja, nur ein ICE 4. Das war immer ein Spiel mit den Wolken und der Sonne. Hier finde ich es gar nicht so schlecht, woll! Der Kollege neben mir kriegte auch immer die Fiesemuppeln.
Die Zeit läuft ab für den letzten Intercity in Deutschland mit 218-Vorspann. Wenn dieser dann weg ist bleibt uns nicht viel über. Das heißt jetzt noch Stellen und Umsetzungen machen die man über die Jahre aufgeschoben hat. Die besondere Schwierigkeit ist ja obendrein, dass es bei diesem Exemplar häufig durch heftige Verspätungen und Ausfälle die Bilder nicht funktionieren. Die Anfälligkeit ist aufgrund der alten Fahrzeuhe und der Vernachlässigung dieses Zuges weil er ja sowieso immer zu spät ist sehr hoch.
Begonnen damit hat es natürlich schon im Ruhrpott, als ich das sah, lag ich noch bequem im Bett. Aber ich musste aufstehen, heute ging es mit dem Auto durchs Allgäu. Als ich dann im Zug saß war der 2013 immernoch weitgehend pünktlich, das änderte sich natürlich ab Stuttgart und im Filstal. Ulm wurde dann schon mit 30+ verlassen. Zu dem Zeitpunkt befand ich mich schon im Auto in Bad Grönenbach, Stelle auskundschaften. Wir wollten was neues ausprobieren was man so noch garnicht richtig auf Flickr oder DSO gesehen hat, nur drohten uns Quellwolken einen dicken Strich durch die Rechnung zu machen. Links und rechts von der Sonne war der Himmel natürlich strahlend blau wie man es kennt.
Parallel dazu baute der IC, mittlerweile als IC 2823 Ersatzfahrt für den 2013 eingetragen, immer mehr Verspätung auf. Memmingen verließ er mit 40+. Wir rechneten schon damit, hier definitiv kein Bild zu bekommen, auch wenn die Sonne die Wolken ein wenig zerpflückte, reichten die Sonnenlöcher oft nicht aus, die ganze Landschaft auszuleuchten. Aber ich kann euch eines sagen, nämlich dass es trotzdem geklappt hat. Nachdem wir dann 2 verschieden Auslösungen gemacht haben und noch ein Handy im Gras verloren wurde, rannten wir zum Auto zurück. Jetzt aber allerhöchste Eisenbahn! Zum Glück bemerkten wir einen Ort weiter in Dietmannsried, dass dem IC eine Kreuzung reingesteckt wurde, der baute also noch mehr auf und wir hatten alle Zeit der Welt.
Schließlich kamen wir in der Parkbucht in Immenstadt-Stein an, ohne Zeitdruck aber mit plötzlichen und heftigen Nasenbluten, was solls das Bild wurde ja trotzdem gemacht und dieses Mal auch ohne wütenden Bauern!
DB 218 415 + 218 406 am IC "2823" und 60 Minuten Verspätung rollen durch den Ortsteil Stein richtung Immenstadt wo dann die Loks umgesetzt werden.

With about 12 hours of planning, Ryan and I decided a weekend trip to the Iron Range was due. Our first day was killer. Our first train had an IC on lead and we caught the BLE trio not long after. Here, U717 is headed back to Proctor with a steaming load of taconite.
101 038 ist mit IC 2183 von Frankfurt/Main nach Karlsruhe bei Heddesheim an der Bergstraße unterwegs. Hinten schiebt die 101 033.
Schade, die Werbe 101er sind dadurch komplett verschwunden. Der Kollege fährt Berlin - Amsterdam Centraal.
This is the central part of the nebula IC 4603 surrounding the bright star SAO 184376 which illuminates the blue reflection nebula. IC 4603 can be seen near the very bright star Antares toward the constellation of Ophiuchus. IC4603 is one small part of the Ophiuchus cloud complex. The impressionistic effect is created by large amounts of interstellar dust, minute globs of carbon similar in size to cigarette smoke. This dust frequently occurs in the outer atmospheres of large, cool, evolved stars. Dense dust clouds are opaque to visible light and can completely hide background stars. For less dense clouds, it preferentially reflects blue starlight, effectively marking the surrounding dust boundary. Text borrowed from APOD

218 444 zog an einem Samstag im Juli 2014 den IC "Rottaler Land" (hier noch als RE 27005) durch Anzenkirchen.

A pair of "Death Stars", lead by IC 1026, heads south and away from downtown Chicago, IL at 35th St. with CN L536, the daily Glenn - Kirk Yard transfer.
Merry Christmas! After numerous slow speed runs through the cut east of Alden, I think the crew said F*%k-it and blasted through one last time at 30-40MPH. CDubDub and I were more than pleased. Somewhere back there are a couple of blue and yellers providing the propulsion...
DB 101110 met de IC 2083 Hannover > Augsbug > Oberstdorf in Himmelstadt.
Deze lok bleek namelijk deze week in deze IC verbinding te zitten.
Vanwege werkzaamheden aan de HSL ten noorden van Wurzburg, reed deze IC en alle ICE's via de klassieke lijn via Gemunden.
Am 18. Dezember 2020 war 101 044 mit dem IC 2005 kurz nach Donaueschingen unterwegs gen Bodensee.
In sechs Wochen wird das Zugpaar leider auf IC2-Dostos umgestellt. Wer möchte, kann dann über 10 Stunden lang in den unbequemem Kisten durch die Republik gondeln...

A40891 22 looking more like an Illinois Central train than one from Candian National catches a patch of sun that would turn out to be the last bit of sunlight this train and would see on this particular afternoon. The quad set of IC SD70s would spend the rest of the afternoon working Effingham yard before continuing their journey south toward Centralia Illinois.
